Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The best gift.
This may seem to be an odd question, but for some reason I was thinking of this tonight and I dont know why, but it was one of the most memorable moments of my life.
I want to ask everyone what is the best present they ever gave someone? The one that touched both you and the person who recieved it?
Oh I almost did a "Steve" and didnt answer my own question! LOL!
anyhoo,
My father passed in April of 1998, and the first Christmas after his passing I knew would be tough on us and I wanted to do something meaningful but had no idea what when I came across an old 8-track tape amoung the albums I was leafing through one day at my moms. This particular tape was a favorite of my dads and we listend to it endlessly in our house for years untill the cassette tapes came along. Years went by and my Dad and Mom both searched endlessly for this particular tape and could never find it, I even did an internet search for them once and couldnt find it. The 8track was usless and they wanted it on cassette or CD. Well, I found someone who could take the 8track (if it still worked) and turn it into a CD, I had them make copies for me, mom and my sisters.
I handed them each their gift at our traditional Christmas party. They were all so suprised, and so very touched, and just as thankful as I was to have that piece of our past restored. It still amazes me that a CD could cause tears roll down the faces of four grown women. I only wish I could have given it to my Father, he was SOOOOOO hard to shop for, it would have been the perfect gift!

Re: The best gift.
Actually, I just gave myself and my mother matching music boxes.. They're really pretty handmade boxes that play "Somewhere Out There"..
Since we live quite a bit apart, this song always makes us think of each other.

Re: The best gift.
For me, it was definately my dad's trip to Disneyworld! It touched us both in ways I honestly never imagined and made for priceless memories.

Re: The best gift.
My mom and dad were divorced when I was 3 and when I was about 9 or 10 she had her engagement diamond put into a pendant. She always told me that when I was 18 I would get the pendant. She even let me wear it to my junior prom.
On the night before my 18th birthday, I said something like 'Yay! Tomorrow I get the pendant!!' and she said 'What pendant??' and I said 'Your diamond pendant, you said I could have it when I was 18.' and she said 'Oh, I don't know about that....'
I was so dissapointed!!! So, on my 18th birthday, after 3:38pm, which is the time I was born (my mom won't let anyone celebrate their birthday until after the time they were born, which just figures because I'm the only one out of the 4 of us, my mother, brothers and I, who was born in the afternoon) I'm opening my presents and NO diamond pendant!!
So, I just shrugged it off, like it didn't mean that much, cause I figured she must have her reasons and then she took a little black box out from under the table and put it in front of me. I opened it, and lo and behold, there was the pendant! I started crying and hugging her and she said 'Did you really think you weren't going to get it!?!? I promised it to you years ago!' I told her that I thought she had a reason for not giving it to me. She gave me a little smack in the head for being dumb.
That same pendant later became my engagement ring, as that diamond means more to me than practically anything. It will always be my link to my mom!
I was going to buy her another pendant to replace it, but you should see the HUGE rock she got from my stepfather! LOL!! Saves me some $$$!

Re: The best gift.
I would have to say it was the wedding gift my sister's and I gave my mom and her husband. We knew she had been worried about getting re-married, because we all missed our dad tremendously (he had passed away 10 years prior). She had never done much traveling before...we grew up with very modest means, and there just wasn't enough to take vacations.
Anyway, my sister's and I sent them to Europe. It included England, Spain, and Romania. Mom's parents were born and grew up in the Transylvania area of Romania, so it gave her a chance to visit that area. She even saw the church they had been baptized in. Ned's (mom's husband) son lives in Spain, and had been there for years. They got a chance to see him and meet his wife and her family. It really was a special trip for them. They came back with wonderful stories and memories.
