Ralph Brennan's Second Chance? (somewhat long) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, two years ago, DH & I went to the Jazz Kitchen for my birthday we had a superb dinner and wonderful jazz. The chocolate bread pudding was to live for, so when DD & I went to Disney for our birthday, I insisted we go to the kitchen for our birthday bread pudding. We were stuck upstairs amongst businessmen, had horrible service, cold food and the waiter argued with us about wanting the bread pudding because he had forgotten to put the order in. Our meal took over two hours. We were the last table to leave in our area and our waiter was not happy because he had wanted to go home.
Well, instead of writing Brennan's I let it go, thinking that we wouldn't be going back anytime soon. Now we're going back, so I wrote. And got a response! Email the manager or call him and he will make sure that we have an enjoyable evening. Do we give it another chance or eat elsewhere. I love jazz and the bread pudding--when it was good, was--well GOOD! But this is not a cheap place to eat and I don't want to drop another $$$ for the same treatment and food as last year. What do you think?
I would definitely go. It sounds like the bad experience was a fluke - you got a great response from management. We were there in September and had a wonderful time - the mushroom bread pudding that came with the steak was awesome - and I'm not a bread pudding fan. We can't wait to go back!
DH agrees. We had such a wonderful time there, but I will need to convince DD and friend that the $$ are worth it. Twice burned would be just too much to bear!

The key to a great meal is reporting any problems. Do not sit there stewing over cold soup or no drink service. If the employee is sick, tired, or poorly trained then it is to that employee's benefit to have the employee told and if necessary management notified. How is management to know that things are not right? Next time at the restaurant let them know. If an employee argues with you then ask for a manager.
I only trust a burger stand in my town and the people at Disney parks o both coasts. It took us 30 minutes to get mom a burger as her sugars dropped and she was going into a turtle mode. The last time I ate there I puked in the bushes from a reaction to allergens. I used to recommend the place but have not eaten there in years.

Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
We loved our visit to Ralph's!!!
One bad one good....I'd give them another shot...especially since you had such a good response from the management....
DD is leaning toward a second chance. We've got to get her friend's approval as well. (Wish it were just we two, but it's still an all-girls trip). I guess it is MY birthday, so I could put the MOM thing, but won't. Hopefully, I'll know by end of the week so I can write the management.
Well, I met with DD and friend and they say go for it. And I responded to the Dave's email from Jazz Kitchen. What a nice guy! I told him that the girls said they wanted to eat there for my birthday and I asked him about the jazz and the menu. I thanked him for his kindness and said I'd call and make reservations closer to our trip. He responded--within an hour, that all I needed to do is email him back and he'd make all the arrangements!! Don't tell DD, but I told my hubbie that I wanted to pick up their dinner as my birthday present. (you know kids-young and poor!)
I think that giving is a second chance would have been my choice as well. Give them that one more chance to prove that last time was just a fluke. If you have bad service this time, that would probably be the last straw, you know?
I hope they don't mess it up either. This will be my 3rd birthday celebration with them. Really don't want to waste it. DH is already disappointed that he isn't coming along on the trip and eating there.

It's such a popular place that I really think the service you got last time was a fluke. I'm glad you're giving management a chance to "fix it" and I hope it's everything you want!
(I introduced my family to their walk-up window beignets a month ago - YUM O!)
Do you mean survive the trip or do you mean actually not get eaten before you get home? LOL
We ordered a smaller order and I was SO tempted to get some more to snack on as we walked through the park that day....
They serve the beignets all day at the "window" (it's not actually a walk-up window, it's a small room to the left of the restaurant where you order at a counter). I've had them both for dessert and breakfast. The restaurant isn't open for breakfast, so if you want them for breakfast you'll have to use the quick serve counter and either eat outside (which was cold, as SoCal had a cold snap that week) or take it with you to line up at the park.
You can also get the bread pudding at the counter....

Well, I was thinking of bringing it home to hubby, the bread pudding would be wonderful, but with the sauce, TSA might not let it on the plane! LOL! Beignets would really be fun to eat on the plane, yum!, but people might mob me right there, huh? Now, I'm really hungry!

I agree...go back. We've done Brennan's at DLR several times and always been very happy. I think your poor experience was an anomaly. Plus, it sounds like you got a great response from management.
Well, we're going. In fact, a long shot but the manager might be a very distant relation! Same last name and comes from same area of the country as my great great grandfather! Wouldn't that be a hoot!!!!! Anyway, plans are set, hubby's bought the birthday card and is getting that ready! So, the evening will be fun! Dave (the manager said there was a Jazz Duo playing that night!) Awesome, not too loud, just my kind of sound! Love it! Hope the girls do!
