As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What is a bounceback? I am wondering because I am going in Jan but we'd like to come back again when they offer free dining! I understand that you need to book before you check out from your current trip. I hope someone can hep me out!
There are several different bounce back offers you can get. I've heard of the Free dining one, but the one we've gotten on 2 visits was the room discount bounce back. It's shaped like a clock and has the offer and dates on it. You are right, it has to be booked before you check out. If you don't have one in your room, you can phone or ask about it at your resort to see if there is one offered. Good luck. they ususally have them in Jan. Both times we went in Jan, we had bounce backs.

Wahoo! So I can I use my deal with a TA or do I HAVE to use Disney?
You can have it done with your TA. We went during FD in September. There was a flyer in our room offering FD for the same time for next year. When I called they said I could book with my TA, but she had just moved so they let me book it on my own.
Hope you get a bounceback!!!!
We just returned, and the BB that was in our room was for resort discounts. So I'm betting you will get that one if you are going in Jan. It was 20% off values, 30% off mods, and 40% off Wilderness cabins, for various dates throughout 2010. I called to inquire about deluxes, and was told they were 40% off as well, even though that is not stated on the BB card. I had already gotten the same offer with a pin code a few weeks ago so I wasn't able to use it, but it is a great deal.
I just got it on Friday. I called the operator from the room. Only 2 of the 5 operators that I spoke too knew what I was talking about. It was the only frustrating part of the trip was trying to do this. The one CM knew and trancsferred me but then the bell service came so I had tohang up while I was on hold. The other CM operators gave me different info. My DH went to the front desk of the beach club and they said that there was no BB at this time but I had gotten transfered to reservations and she gave me a BB for 40% the beach club same trip next year, no free dining. Even though I was rushed I took it b/c you can always change or transfer. So, keep trying different people and then reservations from your room if someone tells you no at first. I also did not need a code when I called maybe b/c i was calling from the room

If you're interested in the Free Dining promotion, just know that you can't also get a bounceback that's a room discount -- each room can only have one promotional discount applied.
Many of the recent bouncebacks have been percentages off of the room rate (30 or 40%). During Free Dining, they were offering bouncebacks for 2010's Free Dining I believe.
My understanding is that you have to book it before you leave and pay the package deposit ($200). I didn't know that they will let you go through your TA, but I'm assuming they need you to book through the TA while you are still on property. Can anyone confirm that assumption?
I booked my BB on Labor Day, 2009 and my offer was free dining..so, I am returning Sept, 2010..I am really hoping I get the same offer when I return in 2010, because the free dining is what entices me to keep coming same time every year. But, only time will tell...

Be careful. If you book a bounceback when you're there and it is not for free dining already, (most likely it will be for a discount on a room rate) then if book it and free dining is released for the dates you have booked, you won't be able to combine the offers. You will have to choose between the free dining and the room discount.
We just booked the bounceback while we were there and it was for a room discount. We could have added the dining plan if we wanted to but it would have been at full price.

You can't book it through a TA. You have to book it through Disney directly.
There is an extension to call from your room phone that connects you directly to a designated section of Central Reservations dealing specifically with the bouncebacks. I think they call it the "Returning Guest Promotion" line, or something similar. The CM I spoke to on the phone wanted to know the day we checked in, the day we were checking out and the resort we were staying at. She also pulled up our existing reservation. This is to confirm that you are calling from the WDW resort and that you have not yet checked out. Therefore it is not possible to book the bounceback through a travel agent.
Hi, I´ve just returned from WDW, at our resort room there was an offer for bounceback, it was a folder with a number to be dealed from our room, there were several dates around the year with different offers. My DH and I´ve talked before and decided upon a date and then called. They´ve offered a room discount, and we´ve discussed options between resorts. Anyway we´ve booked it, and compared to simulations on WDW website we got a good discount. We´ve added dining plan (paid) and tickets. What the CM explained is that offers can not be combined, but if WDW release during the year a better offer I can call them and ask to be replaced.
But if you want to use the bounceback offer you must call before checking out!!!

Last Jan 09 I was in AKL and recieved a bounce back. I also had my Aug 09 trip booked thru Maureen. I wanted the bounceback applied to our Aug trip, and Maureen phoned to do it. She phoned while we were still there.
I know in my situation where I had a booking with the TA, I was allowed to book the bounce back thru her.
