As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We leave the airport at 10:30ish and arrive at 2:18. We'd have to get our bag, get on DME and check in. Do you think that adding MNSSHP is too much for the first day? We'll have a 6yr, 4 yr, and 10 mo. old with us. I really want to do Magic Kingdom the first night, but touring plans is predicting a MNSSHP that night!!
(Assuming a Disney resort and DME) You arrive at 2:15, so you can estimate that DME would get you to the resort by 3-3:15. Since your room should be ready by that time of day, you could relax at the resort and swim, nap, whatever.
Personally, I think you'd have time to rest up enough to go to the party that night -- you can get in to the MK on the MNSSHP ticket at 4PM...
I think I'd do it -- but the question would be, would the kids? That may be too long of a day for some. You know your kids best though.
Eileen
I personally think so having done MNSSHP twice that your plans might be too much. When we've gone, we do a park in the morning, lunch, nap then head out. You'll want to stay late and there's so much ground you'll want to cover. Is there another night you could go? Only you know know how your kids will do. But the extra rest is good before you go. I do recommend getting there at 4pm when you're allowed to. Even though the festivities aren't out yet, hit some rides or eat dinner. Something I wish we would have done. Have lots of fun!!!
Hmm, I wouldn't think it would be too much, but it depends on how tired you think your kids would be and whether you plan on getting there at 4, or starting a bit later at 7pm and maybe getting in an afternoon nap.
I don't think it would be a problem. We did MNSSHP on our first night of our most recent trip. We drove down that day, got to POP around 3:00, checked in, went to our room, and just rested (while watching seven hundred episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place) for a couple hours. Then we got ready and headed to the part around 5:30. We were all refreshed and stayed till close. Good luck!!

MNSSHP 2015: DH (Bane), Me (Batgirl), Genie, and our friends
We did MNSSHP on our arrival night. I thought is was a perfect 1st day. We made ressies at The Plaza for @4pm then the kids changed into their costumes.
I think it can be done, but you know your family best. Before you get your heart set on going, just make sure there are tickets available for the night you are looking to attend as some of the nights are sold out at this point. Have a great time if you do go!!
We did this last year. With an early morning flight, we were up at about 5:30am, and ended the night at MNSSHP about 10 or 10:30. That's how long the kids could last, and our girls were 4 and 6 at the time. My DH stayed back at the hotel with our 22 month old. They were super tired the next day, but still managed OK because of their excitement for just being there. Like others have said, you know your kids best. If you truly think they can manage, then I say do it!!!!

Your kids are younger so it may be a long day for them but, like others have said, you know them best.
Do they sleep on the plane? Your flight would definitely be long enough for some good naps. Then if you got to the resort, relaxed a bit (is that possible when you first get to Disney?? ), and then headed out to MK, you should be fine.
Just be sure to not do an early morning the next day.
I think it might be a bit much. Traveling on a plane with my 2 kids made for a long day, and we'd try to take it easy that first night as we were usually exhausted!
I have to add that I also think it might be a bit much. We did this the first night with our kids last year - they were 3 and 5 at the time. For starters, we got to the hotel, checked in , etc by 3 and napped. But, as it had been a whole year since we had been to WDW we got to the park at night and were not comfortable yet with where everything was. I felt like we spent the party sort of lost...not remembering where anything was! It was frustrating. But, you do know your kids best. I always think (after that experience and how we are planning this year's trip!) is start the first day with a little activity and excitement, rest up, then go all out the rest of the trip (until the kids hit the wall!!).
We did this with a 1 year old a couple of weeks ago. We arrived in Orlando around 11am but since our room was not ready at ASMu, we did not get into the room until 2:30. I put our DS down for a nap right away. We had ADR's at CP for 5:30 so we my DS only had about a 2 hour nap.
He never got cranky, but he fell asleep during the fireworks so we left around 10pm. I had planned to see the later parade but I never got to see it. Since it was our first night, we wanted to give our DS a good night sleep.
If I had to do it again, I would not not do the party the first night. It was a little much for my DS.
