Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I am NOT hand feeding this dog

My sisters dog is staying with us thankfully only for a few more hours. Anyway he eats canned dog food. The problem is he won't eat it out of the bowl or off a fork. He will only eat it if you hand feed him. And yes I mean stick your hand in the mooshy food and pull out a piece of meat and give it to him. We are trying to break him of this but it isn't working. He started doing this last week according to my sister. She said he wouldn't eat so she hand fed him and he started eatting. So now that's how he wants to always eat. I'm sorry but no way am I sticking my hand in the dog food and hand feeding this dog. We don't even do that for our own dogs. Anyone have any ideas what to do to break this habit with him? Right now we have him fenced in the kitchen with his bowl of food. We figure when he's hungry enough he will eat but that's not working either. He hasn't eatten since yesterday morning. I could kill my sister for starting this bad habit. I can see why she did it because he wouldn't eat other wise. So now what do we do? Any help would be great.

How old is he? Did something happen at your sisters house that he could be responding to?

I ask only because one of our dogs got hit and killed by a car a couple of years ago and our second one was like that for quite a few days - she either wouldn't eat or would only eat out of our hand. I broke her of it by feeding her a white rice and hamburg diet for quite a few days. The first day or two, that's all she got on a plate or in her bowl. Then graudally I started mixing her food back in (3/4 rice and hamburg to 1/4 dog food, then 1/2 and 1/2 and so on.) We haven't had any problems since and we're going on 2 1/2 year now. She's never gone back to not eating/hand feeding only. And if she did, I'd do the same thing again.

And the reasoning for slowly adding back the dog food (just in case you don't know) is dogs digestive systems are sensitive and by changing the diet quickly the could end up with diarhea, etc.

Good luck

Toby is about 6 years old. I don't believe anything has happened at my sisters house. She does have another dog. But Toby hasn't had any problems until now. He seems ok as far as pottying goes. No soft stool or anything like that.

Keep going with your method. Once the dog gets hungry he will eat. My sister in law's dog will only eat when she is holding the bowl in front of him while she kind of squats down next to him. I refuse to do that in my house. So, when I watch her dog, I confine him in one room (to keep our dog from stealing the food) and give him 1/2 hour or so to eat. He will eventually eat his food from the bowl, on the floor. After a while I put the remainder of the food away.
Remember, you are the Alpha Dog in the house. Don't let the dog control you! Letting a dog eat caned food out of your hand means that the dog is in charge of the feeding process, not you! He will not let himself starve.

I know you don't want to do it, but it's your sisters dog and you don't want anything to happen to Toby, so I would get a rubber glove and hand feed him that way you don't have to worry about all the dog food on your hand. I've had to hand feed my brothers dog when he was here too, so I know what you're going through.

I know it sounds horrible, but honestly if you put the food in a bowl he will eat when he gets hungry enough. Just don't leave the canned food out for hours, it'll get nasty. Dogs won't starve themselves. We get people in at work all the time saying their dog will only eat if hand fed, will only eat a particular type of lunch meat, etc, etc. Really it's just because the dogs know if they wait they'll get what they want. When they find out it's not going to happen, they'll eat out of a bowl or eat dog food instead of lunch meat.

I hope your right. But so far it's not working. He's been here since Sunday afternoon and he has yet to eat anything. We keep trying to put him in a room with the food and he just lays next to it.

Oh boy! You're right about it being a dumb thing for your sister to start doing - maybe he's just ticked off that he's not at home and misses her? I hope he eats soon!

That's only 1.5 days. I doubt he will starve himself. I say no hand feeding, yuck.

I don't think he will starve either but that can't be good for him to not eat. And I say yuck too. Gross.

Good news. I got Toby to eat, finally. I put it on a plate instead of a bowl and he ate it right up. What made me think of a plate was my dog, both dogs are dachshunds, does not like his kibble in a bowl. It sits to high and hits him in the throat and he chokes. I thought maybe that was Tobys problem too. I guess that might be what it is. As long as he ate and I didn't have to hand feed him I'm happy.

This is Toby.
