As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am planning a girls "weekend" to Disney Dec. 2- Dec. 5. Looking at our flight status as of now, we probably are only going to be able to do 2 days at the parks. One of the members of the group would prefer to not get a park hopper to save $50 dollars. I really want to go see all the parks decorated, see Candlelight Processional, Obsorne Lights, and the MVMCP. I have an annual pass so I guess I could always go off by myself but don't y'all think I should talk her into a park hopper? Or am I out of my mind thinking that I can soak in all the decorations in 2 days?
Tough call.....for someone who needs to keep to a small budget, adding $50 to a park ticket is a lot of money. 2 days is a short amount of time to do all the parks and then if you want to add in MVMCP too??? Was your friend willing to pay for the party??? Maybe do a hopper instead of the party. I honestly think that is a better use of $50 when you only have 2 days to spend at the parks.
MVMCP is fun, but when we do parties at WDW, we don't do rides...rather we take in all the party festivities....which is the reason for doing the party to begin with, ya know??? Do you want to spend such a large part of your two days at MK not doing rides???

Since it is such a short time, and saving money is an issue with that person I say skip the park hopper. You can always go off on your own as you mentioned. Good luck with it!

Also, is the MVMCP worth the money?
Difficult decision...MVMCP would alow you at night to MK and you could use the 2 extra days to visit the others parks instead...however doing 2 parks plusMVMCP at night would need extra stamina!!!
With such limited time, I would skip MVMCP - but I was not a fan of it at all. Money saved on that ticket alone should get her a hopper and you can definitely see all 4 parks decorated in 2 days. That would be my preference - I love the holidays in WDW and all the parks are so distinctly decorated. It equals a much better experience than one special Xmas parade and fireworks to Xmas music for me.
Gosh - tough decision. If you've only got two days, you will struggle to fit everything in. We personally love the Christmas Party and I wouldn't like to miss it, but then again, it is extra money... I would think to do the Christmas decorations justice in such a short space of time, a park hopper is an essential.
While the park hopper would be helpful, I still think it's going to be hard to fit Osbourne Family Lights, Candlelight procesional, and MVMCP in 2 days. All these happen at night so I'm not sure how you'd do it. I'd pick Epcot and MK over DHS. DHS had christmas decorations of course, but other than the Osbourne Family Lights, there's not a lot of christmasy things going on. Epcot was amazing. The decorations were beautiful, especially at night. We loved walking through WS and see how the holidays are celebrated in other countries and listening to the storytellers.
You've gotten lots of different responses. I guess it comes down to priorities in the limited amount of time you have and budget. Is there any way that you could stay an extra day or 2 to get all of the things in that you want to? If not, for such a short trip, I'd personally skip MVMCP and get the park hopper. Good luck!
I think I'd skip the hopper and do the MVMCP. You used to be able to get into the park at 4:00 with your ticket and that should give you some quality time at MK. Then you could spend your other days at DHS for the Osborne Lights and at Epcot. I'm not a fan of AK, and if I had just two days, that's the park I would want to skip. (Plus, it usually is the first park to close for the evening and doesn't really have a special Christmassy event, or elaborate decorations.)
Wow...Y'all gave me alot of different answers, but alot to think about. Thanks! We just booked our flights and were able to get an 8:00 am flight, which will basically give us almost a whole extra day! I think we are going to get her the park hopper, since she has never been to DHS or AK and is dying to ride Toy Story Mania and the Safari. She also requested to go to Blizzard Beach before we leave, but I had to remind her that we were only going for 3 days, not a week!
Thanks for the help. Will keep all your suggestions in mind!
Any thoughts on Pop Century? Thats where we are booked, but I might eventually upgrade to Caribbean Beach with the great AP discounts.
What time is your arriving flight? I only ask becuase if you are getting in late afternoon then maybe enjoy the Osborne Lights on your arrival night, then you can enjoy Epcot for a day, spend time enjoying the countries and do the CP, and then you can enjoy the MVMCP the following night and still be able to do AK in the earlier part of the day if you wish as the ticket to the MVMCP would get you into the MK or you can spend the whole day at MK and skip AK.
I would skip MVMCP and do the PH - if you're goal is to see the parks decorated, rather than hitting 'all' the rides/shows, a PH would be helpful. All the parks have different offerings, and IMO worth at least TRYING to "see it all"!

I loved our stay at CBR, and with AP discounts for sure I'd upgrade. The rooms are alot bigger, so you won't be as cramped. And a hot tub at night after a ling day at the parks is nice too!

You read my mind. Didn't realize that PC didn't have a hot tub until yesterday and that was a little unsettling! Even my young feet need some heat after pounding the pavement for hours!
