Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
Okay - we're getting closer!
Tickets at the gate are $27.95. If we get a group of 25 or more, paid in advance at one time, the price drops to $20.00 each.
Traditionally, they have a coupon for $$ off for this first operating day, but when I called, they were unsure if they will offer a discount as it is "Safety Patrol Day" (scary, I know! )
Let me know what those of you that plan to attend think about getting our tickets. Try to get the group price, or take a chance there may be discounts in the paper?
BTW - the food police is planning on attending, so we may have to lock him up in Noah's Ark while we get Potato Patch fries and Funnel Cakes!

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
I'd really like to come, but I loath that long drive. Well, I loath the damage it'll do to my poor Slymobile (that's why my car is called, since it's done in all Sylvester the Cat). ALl I gotta do is find a hot date to come though I'm there (there are few incentives that work for me as easily a girl). Can ya put me down as a maybe?

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
Unfortunately, Walter and I won't be able to make it. We just registered for Childbirth Preparation/Education classes and we could only get into the Saturday classes. On the up side, I just signed back up for my belly dancing classes. So, maybe I'll post some pictures and share my "close to home" Adventure Report.
Hey rescuesk! Watcha doin' Thursday nights? There's an evening belly dancing class out there with our names on it! (I'm serious... )

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
Well, count me in!! I still cant decide if I will be solo or sporting kids....mmmmm...If I go solo...more money for me to eat fries and play games.....hmmmmmm????
I am sad that you wont be able to make it Beaner!! Though I am excited for you and your pending arrival!! You must post belly dancing pics!!
Brant... if you make the drive.......I will commit myself to an act of the utmost bravery/insanity.....I will ...yes...I will allow myself to be levitated to heights no human should reach....suspended there for a ten second eternity where one learns the true definition of hell...then my quiviering body shall be allowed to plummet towards the ground at neck break speed...my life passing before my eyes.
I would do this to honor your prescence in my hometown.....of course you would have to come with me....there is always a catch.

Put me down for a resounding MAYBE. We're going to see if DH can get the day off. He works in retail so Saturdays off are hard to come by, but he's promised to do his best!

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
Ok, now I am really sad Not only are you all going to Kennywood without me, you're all going to eat Potato Patch fries without me too!
I would love to come, but a six hour drive with a three year old would mean a weekend at the PUs(that's parental units) and since the nightmare trip to Disney in September, I loathe the thought of spending the weekend at home.
So everyone have some fries for me, and a hot dog on a stick, don't forget the funnel cakes and the great ice cream that you get at the refresment stand in front of kiddie land near the lagoon.
Tiki, take lots of pictures and be sure to post them.

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
Beaner and Ears,
Sorry to hear you won't be able to join us!
Joey, is the bus an option - or could you meet Joe at some point? We'd love to have you along - and Kruggie is even going to ride the Pitfall if you do!
Sounds like our group will be a bit smaller than originally thought, so I guess we'll just get our tickets at the gate.
If anyone else is planning on coming, please post or send me an email. Thanks!

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
WAIT A MINUTE!!!! Did some sort of krug-impersonator come in here and suggest that *I* would be so bold (stupid may be a better word) to ride that HIDEOUS hunk of metal?.....hubby calls it "hell on a stick".
Oh yeah,,,I must have posted that the night I smoked fifteen pounds of CRACK!
Anywho...I guess I would make good on my promise....I'll need some crack...maybe heroin dunnno.
My official count will be three...me and my eldest boys shall partake in the gathering. If the hubby should change his mind I shall inform you!

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
Hey, it's not too late - everyone that's interested, as we'll just be meeting at the gate and buying tickets there.
For those that have never-been - Kennywood is a great amusement park - old wooden rollercoasters, the Haunted Hideaway (which I understand was one of the first "dark" rides ever), alongside new thrill rides like Phantom's Revenge and Pitfall.
And then there's the food - Potato Patch Fries, Awesome Corn Dogs and Funnel Cakes. Yummy!
Here's the list so far:
tikibird and the Food Police (2)
Joey (maybe - but we're keeping our fingers and toes crossed!)(possible 1 parrot)
Joe - whose only demand is to also ride the incline! (1)
Kruggie - who may or may not brave the Pitfall (3)
Starshine maybe - again hoping! (possible 2)
Ann - it's not too late! (5)
Come on - who else is up for this? Out of towners - I have been able to get great weekend rates for area hotels on Priceline.

Re: Kennywood Park (Pittsburgh) Meet April 20th
aw man, if it wasn't for my broken leg I'd be there in a hearbeat!
if this was made for later after it opened, you could get the tkts from a school sale for about 14.00. how about making another meet there for later in the season? (just a suggestion)

You could put me down as a maybe. Depends on if I have the money and can get the day off, I do have a job where I have to work weekends.
