As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My family and I would like to look into going to Maine for a week. I have googled a few things, but just don't know what area would be best for us. We would LOVE to be right on the ocean. If anyones ever been there and has any good info I would appreciate it. Thanks

We really like the Ogunquit/York Harbor area. If we don't go to Disney for a summer vacation, we usually go there. Good beaches (although the water is COLD), nice shops and restaurants. We usually drive up to Freeport for a day (LL Bean and outlets), and there are outlets in Kittery, which isn't too far south.
Thanks So much!!! We just wanted to maybe looking into going to a beach. My husband and I went to Myrtle Beach before, but wanted to maybe try something different. We loved Myrtle Beach but didn't find it to family friendly. My husband suggested trying Northern Myrtle beach. Have you been to either?
Booth Bay is also a really nice area. And Portland is not too far. Downtown Portland is beautiful and have neat little shops and there are lots of boat tours to do.
Welovethe Scarborough/Old Orchard Beach area. We were actually married on the beach in Scarborough 3 years ago :-)
Old Orchard has Palace Playland (amusement park), nice shops, fireworks every Thursday night on the beach.
Rentals are pretty reasonably priced, and there are rentals that are literally down a sandy path to the beach. We have gotten rentals through Cyberrentals every year, and have not been disappointed.
And like PP have said, the water is cold. But we love Maine!

I went with my SIL and our kids last summer to Old Orchard beach for the day. We only went for the day, so I don't know a lot about the area. The boys had fun at the small amusement ride area and playing on the beach.
my dad grew up in so portland maine so we visited his mother there every year my best memories of those times(my grandmother and i didnt get along) is when we stayed on sebago lake(yes i know this isnt the ocean but i almost drowned once at piney point maine so i didnt swim in the ocean in maine any more) but old orchard is fun too have fun and a lobster roll for me!!
We spend the first few days of our trip to Maine in Ogunquit, but then we head north to Sebec Lake. We take day trips into Bangor, Ellswoth & Bar Harbor. My family has been going forever (my Mom when she was younger & I have been going since I was about 8 months old).
Of course it is always best to get advice from those who actually live in a destination. However, I thought I would share my experiences. I still have fond memories as a child camping at Lake Sebago as has been mentioned previously. As an adult, I had the opportunity to visit Bar Harbor and loved it. Lobster tail Mmmmmm.

But you have to say it correctly....it's lobstahhhh

I've been to North Myrtle Beach, but that was 15 years ago, I was by myself, so I can't really compare, as I didn't do much except for sit on the beach or my hotel room.
Hubby and I just took a drive up to Maine last Friday (June 5th). He'd never been there and it had been a while since I went. Since it's only about and hour and a half to two hour drive for us, it was a quick day trip.
We went to Ogunquit and have decided that we will probably go back next year for our anniversary weekend. There are so many places right on the beach right in that area. And Ogunquit was a cute little down area for walking. We actually went to the Perkins Cove area and then walked along Marginal Way over to the hotels in Ogunquit. It was a nice walk. About 1 1/4 miles long. I think you'll find Ogunquit (or York) to be exactly what you are looking for.
I have a couple of brochures at home. Let me know if you'd like more info about the places we saw and I'd be happy to get you the info on them.
I love the Maine coastline. The general rule of thumb is that the further north you go (with the exception of Bar Harbor) the less expensive, more remote the area is. Southern Maine (Kittery to Freeport) is relatively built up -not Cape Cod by any stretch of the imagination, but lots of stores, motels, etc. on the main drag. The advantage is that if you need a city fix, it's not a bad ride to Boston and while I've never taken the new Amtrak train, I've heard consistently good reports about it.
If you are going for a week, I would look into renting a cottage, condo or vacation home. Many are available for a reasonable rent and you have the advantage of a kitchen, which is nice with kids. I've used VRBO and cyberrentals.
When my kids were young, we had a playgroup mother who had a real cottage on Sebago Lake. We would cram the entire group into a two bedroom camp house. While the lake is not the ocean, it is huge and great for canoeing and the kids loved it.
If you head towards Bar Harbor, you must go to Acadia National Park. It is really beautiful and has a couple of campgrounds.
You should also think about a whale watch. There's nothing like seeing a humpback whale playing by your boat.
Come and enjoy New England. While the water may be chilly, the weather can be wonderful in the summer.
