Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Question What night for Palo?

We will be on the Wonder in October on the 3 night cruise. I was wondering if anyone knows what night the pirates party with the fireworks will be? Or what night would be a good night for me to send the girls to Oceaneer Club/Lab and let my Mom and I have a really nice dinner at Palo?

Just wondering as I want to make sure to see the pirate party and fireworks with my girls for sure!

Thanks!!

The Pirates in the Caribbean party is on the second night of a 3-night cruise.

However, the actual deck party doesn't start until around 9:45 PM so you wouldn't miss it even if you scheduled Palo for that night. The party lasts about 30 minutes with the fireworks toward the end. After the party there there is more food - a 'pirate fare' and dessert buffet and they show a movie out on the screen by the Goofy pool (Pirates of the Caribbean, naturally!) so it can be a late night. With younger kids, an afternoon nap or rest is a good plan!

What you would miss is the pirate-themed menu which is one of my favorites so for that reason, I would not schedule Palo on Pirate night.

I didn't want to miss any of the night time meals on our 4 night cruise last year, so I scheduled a Palo brunch instead. Not sure if it is available on the 3 night cruises, however. It's a good plan when possible.

On the 3 night, they do not do a pirate themed menu, since you only get one night in each dining room (and you get the dining room menu). So you're not missing out on that anyway....

You have to go to Palo. It was my favorite. We did it last yr on our 4 nighter. All the restaurants are great but my least favorite would have to be Parrot Cay. Tritons has a wonderful, classy feeling and Animator's Palate is fun to watch as it transforms. Don't skip Palo because the food is phenomenol especially the Chocolate Souffle.

If you have early dinner seating, you can join your daughters for dinner (abstain from eating....well, maybe just an appetizer or two), and then ship them off to Oceaneers Club. That way, you won't miss one of the restaurants' features and you can enjoy an 8pm Palo dinner while the kids burn off some energy.

Palo is $15 (plus tip) each but definitely well worth it. The staff is classier, the food is excellent and the aforementioned Chocalate Souffle is incredible.

Relax.....enjoy.....re-book!

Thanks Lynn! That is exactly what I needed to know.

I know that my girls would not want to miss animators palate for sure. Thanks for the heads up on the Chocolate Souffle. I'm sure I would love it!

We have second dinner seating, not by choice. I am just wondering what our rotation will be. I will have to check my passporter b/c I thought I saw something in there about that.

Thanks again everyone!

Okay, after consulting the PP, predictions for my rotation may be:
Animator's Palate-Parrot Cay-Trition's

So day 2 would work out great for Palo for me and my Mom.
Hopefully I can get the reservations for that night. We'll see!

That's what we did, same rotation and same night (Nassau night). We planned on feeding the kids at the buffet, since we didn't trust them to actually eat if we sent them with the club, but we discovered that they close down for awhile in the afternoon. So, we ordered room service and fed them while we got ready. They went to the club and we all went to Palo. After dinner, we picked them up and got to deck 9 just in time for DD (who was 7) to squeeze her way up to the front where a "mosh pit" of young kids were gathered to enjoy the show! DS (not quite 4 then) conked out immediately on Grandpop's shoulders, so he found a chair off to the side to hang out - he was totally fine with not standing in the crowd for that long - but he didn't get to see the fireworks, since he was on the wrong side of the ship.

There is no evening show that night - just the Pirate Party. Our reservation was for 6:30, so we knew that we'd be pushing it if we took the kids to Parrot Cay for our regular rotation (we'd eaten breakfast there that morning, so we weren't too put out). Now that the kids are older, on our next trip (this October!!!), we may go ahead and check them into Oceaneers Club/Lab before dinner. I think we may be able to trust them to eat....(maybe).

I'm going on a 3 day in September, and I plan on doing Palo on the second night. I was checking the sunset calendar (I am an obsessive planner!!), and the sun sets that day at 7:05...I plan on booking my ressie as early as possible and then joining my group in the main dining room just to chat, so I don't miss whatever restaurant. My DH will probably get dessert or something, he never seems to get full from eating!! I get to book my ressie in only 15 days, i'm so excited!!

Def. book your Palo night on the evening that you have Parrot Cay. We booked a lovely romantic dinner (at sunset) on that night. We were having such a great time eating and talking that we missed the sunset . Oh well, then we'll have to do it again, right?

Thanks Heather. I didn't know that the pirate party was the show that night! I will try to get an early reservation for Palo then.

Definitely!

I think that my girls would do just fine if I took them to the club/lab for dinner. Maddy did that a few times on our Carnival Cruise and did just fine.

I think it would be a nice dinner for me and my Mom. You don't think we'll feel weird at Palo since we're not out for a romantic evening do you? I just think it will be nice to have a great dinner, without the girls. (don't get me wrong, I love them, just need a little adult time too!)

I booked our Palo dinner for the last night on the cruise, after a relaxing day on Castaway Cay. I figure it's a perfect way to end the cruise, and it's early enough to still enjoy the deck party if we want to.

Getting pretty excited, we leave for Orlando in 2 days!
