If you do a 2 TS credit meal, how do you make up for it? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

If you do a 2 TS credit meal, how do you make up for it?
Hi! I tried to search for the answer for this on these boards, but I couldn't find it.
My question is this: If you have ever used 2TS on a signature meal or room service, how do you make up for it the next day?
Ex: I made rez at Jiko (2TS) so I'm trying to figure out for the next day what we are going to eat using only 1 snack and 1 QS - no TS for that day.
Do you use your snack for breakfast and have a large QS lunch later in the day?
Or do you eat breakfast in your room using food from home and then have 1 snack and 1 QS to last the rest of the day?
Supplement the 1 snack and 1 QS with your own snacks?
Just thinking out loud and wondering what the "pros" do. (They probably don't get the 2TS in the first place!)
Thanks in advance!
PS - using ONLY the Basic DDP and NO food from home, does anyone ever get hungry?
When We are planning to do a 2 credit dining place, we do exactly what you mentioned. We either eat our own food for breakfast, use a snack credit or whatever. Then we use a counter for a big day meal. Sometimes that will be at night and we will just pay oop for lunch too.
What I did when we did HDD (2 credits) last year was we just paid OOP for a TS meal. I chose someplace we wanted to eat that was on the cheaper side price wise. Then once we got there, because we weren't overly hungry, Lenny and I split a meal and Abby got her kids meal. For the 3 of us I think it only cost us about 25 dollars for the entire meal (close to what a CS would have cost for the 3 of us).
This year our travel plans will wind up getting us there around 9:00 at night. We get a full day's worth of meal credits for that night but we won't use them, so we are planning on making up a 2 TS credit meal that way. Did that make sense? Also we are going to put in an order with Garden Grocer for breakfast foods (Milk, cereal, etc) so we can grab a quick breakfast in our room in the morning and hit the parks ASAP. We don't like using our Snack credits for breakfast. Dole Whips and Mickey bars are just too good to pass up!
Because of arrival and departure times, we never need more than one meal on arrival and departure days. This leaves us with an extra counter service credit in there. We choose one night to have counter service instead of table service to use this credit, and we're good to go.
What also helps is that we bring breakfast groceries from home, so we're able to actually use snack credits for snacks. This comes in handy the first couple of days, but by about day 3, we're so full from the massive amount of food we get with our counter and table service meals that we often don't even want snacks. You could use snack credits for breakfast, or if you're doing a character breakfast, you could use snack credits for a light lunch (i.e. ham and cheese croissant at France in Epcot, fried rice at Yak and Yeti in AK, etc.)
We just pay OOP for our evening meal. Yes we still do get a little hungry sometimes on the Basic plan, but my kids are piglets! My gang likes 3 square meals a day with munchies inbetween. We usually either bring b'fast items from home (which I know you said you can't do) and that way we have a snack credit mid day, Or we use our snack credits for b'fast and buy OOP for any snacks we might need during the day.
If you can't take b'fast items with you due to luggage fees, consider shipping them to your resort, or ordering from Garden Grocer. If you have a rental, you can just zip to a grocery and grab some cereal bars, fruit, poptarts, oatmeal bowls, nabs etc.
My personal tip is when I fly with Southwest (no baggage fees), I pack an extra suitcase full of shelf stable b'fast and snack items (and sometimes drinks) to take with us, and then we have an empty suitcase to pack our souvieners in for the flight home!
When we use the regular dining plan we do usually have to pay for a meal or two out of pocket. We like signature dining. But the way I figure it, by the time we've eaten a QS meal, the dining plan has paid off for us so it is worth it. But, to answer your question, we can't eat on the regular dining plan and not pay for something or bring your own food.

Because of arrival and departure times, we never need more than one meal on arrival and departure days.
That's definitely the easiest way to do it. The number of credits you receive (given in a "lump" at check-in is based on the number of nights on your reservation. If we arrive later in the afternoon our first day, then we just grab counter service in a park and still have that extra credit to "double up" for a signature meal later that week.
The first time I used the regular dining plan I had brought cereal, juice, gatorade, and light snacks with us. We never spend a credit on breakfast because usually it is the cheapest meal of the day and we wanted our money's worth.
If you are not going to bring anything from home then I would buy the refillable mug and use a snack credit for breakfast. You can get donuts, muffins, fruit, etc and then fill your mug with juice. Then eat an early dinner around 3 or 4. You might get snacky again later, but just grab one at the park and that should hold you over.
I probably would do a snack credit for breakfast (big cinnamon roll or cheese danish) and somewhere that I could get a big counter service meal late afternoon. Wolfgang Puck Express at DTD is awesome for that. We eat there alot because it is more like a TS meal than CS. In March, I got the Chicken Alfredo, small ceasar salad (comes with it) and creme brulee for dessert. I was stuffed and it was more than enough for lunch/dinner.
We are doing CRT using 2 credits. Therefore I am choosing to pay OOP for 2 more table service meals. I am paying OOP for CP breakfast our last morning and our lunch at H&V b/c those are the cheapest. I could have went without adding the other TS ADR's, but I really wanted to eat there. lol. (because of the characters... not so much the food)
We have used a lot of the above-mentioned strategies, including paying OOP for the least expensive meals (because we really like the 2TS restaurants!) We also almost always split 3 CS meals between the four of us (which is normally plenty for us) and then we have some extra CS credits to work with.
The other thing we have done, when DS's were 10 and 12, is pay OOP for one or both of their meals, and save their credits for me and DH. For example, we went to the Brown Derby, and DS10 wasn't very hungry, so he ordered a grilled cheese and we paid OOP. This saved us two adult TS credits, which we used at another meal. This strategy won't work for us much in the future, as the boys are getting older and hungrier!
