As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok I have a good question I think lol. My son had moderate ADHD. He takes medication in the morning that lasts till about 5pm. For those passporter parents who have adhd children, do you see your son or daughter ever get tired? My boy is very active and sometimes with outlast me lol. He reminds me of the energizer bunny. I am debating in scheduling in "down time" because of this. He gets very bored very quickly.
My DS is ADHD and we have a hard getting him to nap(pretty impossible) but then he gets very cranky and goes to sleep by 8. (The meds he takes makes him tired) I'm hoping we can talk him into naps on this trip(he is turning 6 so maybe we can reason with him)so we can stay out late. He will go and go if something is going on around him and then be miserable. This is definately the worst part of our trips.
Our DD is ADHD but we do not medicate her when at WDW (or on the weekends). She does very well most days because of everything there is to see and do. Some days she will nap, other days she won't. There are some nights that she is ready for bed at 8:00 and there have been other nights that she went until 2 AM.
Lucky for us, she doesn't get too fussy when she is tired. She did when she was younger and we learned to pay close attention as to when she had hit her limit and would call it a night. That was always best for all involved.
Our DD does wear down as the trip goes on. The first few days, she is a ball of fire, but then settles down after a few late nights/early mornings and all the walking.
We have two with ADHD (fairly severe). Our oldest is medicated. Our medication lasts 10-12 hours, and we have him take it around 8:30am, so it lasts into the evening. Even so---we've always scheduled downtime, even before we knew they had ADHD. It's actually pretty rare that they nap, but just laying on the bed with a snack and some downtime, even watching just watching a little TV, coloring, reading -- that time to just relax, decompress, really helps. Usually in the afternoons, we swim early in the afternoon, and relax late afternoon. Head back out around dinner time. They don't get so grouchy later on.

My daughter got diagnosed with ADHD right AFTER our WDW trip, so she was unmedicated at the time. She had no problem opening the parks and closing them down at night! LOL We had planned to take afternoon breaks, but with DD, transitions are *really* difficult, so after the first two days, we just decided to do away with the planned breaks; it was actually easier for her. By chance, we'd made quite a few lunch ADRs at TS restaurants, so we were able to sit down, cool off and relax for an hour or so during the heat of the day. (And since they were usually character meals, DD was entertained enough to LET us sit and eat.) This was enough for us to recharge and be ready to keep on going. We also tried to do shows after lunch where we could sit down in A/C for a little bit.
I think you have to just get a feel for what is going to work best for your child. I know everyone says to get that afternoon break, but for us, that just spelled disaster. For others, NOT getting the break would cause utter chaos. DD is a night owl (and her meds make her even worse...she probably wouldn't have slept at all if she'd been on them at WDW), so staying up late was no biggie; for others, this would be impossible. I'd say have very loose plans your first day or so and see how he does; after that you'll have a feel for what is going to work for you.
My son has no problems falling asleep. He is the type that can go and go and go and go and go, or he can go to bed at 8pm. He doens't get cranky in the mornings. I have seen him stay up till midnight to 2am and be up at 7am in the morning ready to take on the world lol I think him laying in a hotel room won't work. I think the worst thing for him is going to be standing in lines after 5pm.

You are definitely smart to be considering schedules and routines. There is a chapter in The Open Mouse on ADHD and there is some info on sensory strategies also.

Hope your trip is great!
Our son (almost 8) crashes when his medication runs out (super irritable and cranky for about 60-90 min. A good meal usually helps him out alot (sugar levels must be crashing as the medication moves out of his system). We try to eat early to give him a sugar boost before the medication fades. Also, opportunities to run, climb, etc. help him a ton. We plan breaks at Tom Sawyer Island, Epcot Playground, and AK whenever possible. Not sure what we will do at DS.
We are also at a Monorail resort, so pool break will happen each day. He gets very hyper at night (a key sign he needs sleep), so we plan a lot of fireworks viewing over Seven Seas Lagoon to end our nights. This provides him with some excitement, but a short trip back to the room to get him to bed. And possibly a run around the gardens to blow off some steam.

DHS has a playground themed from the movie Honey We Shrunk the Kids. It's pretty cool.
As for our DS8, we'll be playing it by ear, as this is our first trip with him being on medication. I've worked in breaks every other day. If we just use them for the pool then so be it, if we need them for "rests" then we can do that to. Good luck!!

I think if your DS usually has lots of energy I don't know if I'd schedule a formal break. If he needs to leave a park because of sensory overload (like my DH) then you can always go swimming or exploring back at your hotel.
We schedule a "rest", but it doesn't have to be a nap. We all do better with a break from the parks in the afternoon. DS has ADD, but "spaces out". We have to medicate or we'd lose him!

I know the feeling Claudine. We have to medicate our son as well, or my Dh and I'll have to take medication. He just is out of control off of his medicine through the day and he can't help it.
