As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
We just completed our shopping for our kids - the hard part is done! Actually, we did a lot of it on our tip the first week of this month at WDW and we hit the Toys R Us/Target/Wal Mart line up today. Whew!
Now the really hard part - my wife!
Anyone else started?! If you're done - I just don't want to know!

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
Yup, I started in September and I'm almost done, just 4 more gifts to go I did much of my shopping online, which is much easier with 11 month old DS. We've made one family trip to the SI mall where we got most of my inlaws gifts, as well as a few of my family members. I'm so relieved to have most of it done now that we've got that surprise trip to the World planned in 16 days!
Peace, love & ºoº

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I have not yet begun to shop......I find that if I start to early....I spend way too much...then I always end up starting to late and scrambling for dough. sigh.

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I have 2 presents left but it was an easy year. My sister and her family are going to the world the week before us, so we're giving each other Disney $$. And because we'll have 2 winter getaways we told the children 3 presents each this year - just like Jesus! (Except they won't get gold, frankensence and myhr).
I usually work a temporary job during the Christmas season so I like to get everything done before I start, which is this Monday.

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
Yep! I have started shopping for Christmas gifts. Still have quite a few to buy, but I have already put a pretty good "dent" in it. I am determined to get finishesd early this year! Of course, this is what I say every year

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
We are usually done at this time. Not this year though. We have started, but need just a couple more intense hours to really shop hard. I did order Disney shares for my two kids. They are to framed. I hope they come in time.

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I have more shopping done this year than in the past. I wanted to be done by Thanksgiving but I know I won't make that goal. We will be going to the mall the 3rd week of Dec. after DS gets home from college. We will go on a week day when the crowds are small.
The hardest part from me is the wrapping. I really hate to wrap presents. Maybe this year I will give them their gifts in a brown paper bag What do you think??

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
Noooo! Believe it or not, I love to wrap the presents - my wife doesn't care for it. I ususally pop on a Christmas CD or movie and go for it late at night by the Christmas tree. Really puts me in the Christmas mood!

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
Although we are usually done by the week before Thanksgiving, as our jobs get busy then...this year we are late. We started, but have barely put a dent in our list.
I have some unexpected personal time at work that just popped up, so I will use that for a day off for some intense shopping without the kids

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
Yep, just started Friday. My big day to Christmas shop is the day after Thanksgiving when the sales are great and the Mall opens at 7:00 am. I get there as soon as the mall is open and it's just about empty and leave at 10:00/11:00 when it just starts getting crazy. Also, order things from catalogs and ebay.

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I am usually done shopping by this point. However, since we are moving into our house only a few weeks before Christmas, I didn't want to pack and move the presents.
I'm going to be lazy this year... the Dh's nieces (10 of them) and nephew (only one of him) are getting gift certificates. I will buy my niece, Stinky, presents because I'm her only aunt in this country (plus I've always spoiled her).

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I haven't started yet! We always wait to shop the day after Thanksgiving when we're visiting my family in Ky. It's fun(and a little crazy) to be out in the cold at 6 a.m. waiting for the doors to open with about a thousand other crazy people!
Hopefully, we'll find some good deals this year.

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I am almost done... just a few more to buy... and don't have any stocking stuffers yet.
I must say that I agree with Dad... I LOVE to wrap presents and I too bust out the Christmas cds and sometimes a Christmas movie and drink hot chocolate and wrap away. All 3 of my grandmothers have me wrap their presents for them... I am a busy woman come holiday season!!!
And Beth L.... the malls in your city don't open until 7 am on the day after Thanksgiving??? Oh hon you need to come visit me... my mom and I always make a treck of it... time it so we are at each store that is having a giveaway in our town... one mall opens at 5 am and the other at 6... it's a mad dash!!! It's the start of our holiday traditions... I can't wait!!!
This year it will be a blast... and then we will head off to New Orleans for the rest of the weekend for an engagement party and more shopping!!!
Everyone have a very Happy Turkey Day!!!

Re: Who has started Christmas shopping?!?
I am doing great this year--but unfortunately it's the result of necessity rather than good planning. Work is getting insane and any time off during the next month is going to be very hard to come by.
After yesterday, I'm completely done; I've even gotten gifts that I usually overlook till the last minute like my cleaning lady and admins.
