Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
Since I'm trying not to just lurk here anymore...
1 - Titanic... Yes, I'm one of those who refused to accept that the boat sinks in the end.
2 - I think it's an Altima commercial. The one where the red car is parked and a little dog comes racing around the street corner and smacks into the back. (I know, twisted sense of humor...)
3 - A blue henley that I stole from an ex-boyfriend about 10 years ago. It's my fix weekend breakfast shirt - I refuse to throw it out until it falls apart!
4 - Outback Steakhouse. Mainly because my husband is Australian and feels like the restaurant mocks him. But the Alice Springs chicken is the best!
5 - Musical soundtracks. I'm totally addicted to Rent.

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
ok...here's my answers
1. What movie are you embarassed to admit liking?
Flashdance (okay ladies, who didn't wear cutup sweatshirts when this movie was out? )
2. What is your favorite commercial?
I'm not sure what it's for but it has a guy robbing a bank, not very well and many things go wrong. In the last scene, he opens up the money bag and it explodes and covers him in (I think) blue paint. I roll every time I see it.
3. Favorite piece of clothing you own & WONT get rid of?
I have a Motley Crue t-shirt from a tour in 1987 that I adore and won't part with. And then of course there's the beat to death, somewhere around 10 years old sweatpants I wear in the house.
4. Favorite restaurant?
The Outback - luv that bloomin' onion
5. Favorite type of music?
Rock in general, my favorite is 80's metal (Motley Crue) but I listen to classic stuff (The Doors), newer stuff (Creed), etc.
Peace ºoº

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
Okay, I'll give it a shot:
1. Pretty Woman. The last couple of lines are sort of blah and pathetic ("What happens after the Prince climbs the tower and rescues her?" "She rescues him right back." Bleecccchhhh), but the rest of it makes me happy.
2. I'd have to agree with MommaPooh that the kids-giving-away-secrets one is great ("my sister dresses like a floozy!"), though I can never remember what that commercial is actually advertising! I also like the LifeSavers one where the young child and Dad are watching the sunset, and when the sun goes down, the kid whispers, "Do it again, Dad!" Love it. Oh, and the Hallmark one where the boys are all talking about how they're going to ask the girls to the dance -- and one kid keeps saying, "That's what I'm gonna do." Don't get me started on commercials.
3. I may be the only person on the planet who doesn't have an answer for this one. I can't think of anything. An old sweatshirt maybe? Oooh, oooh! Just thought of one. My new fluffy white slippers! They're not old -- yet -- but I'm not giving them up in this lifetime. (See my "Best $5 I ever spent" thread.)
4. Sahib's -- a little Mom-and-Pop Indian place up the street.
5. Anything that sounds like James Taylor.

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
Fun questions!
Movie embarassed to admit liking? Blair Witch Project. I can't help it, it scares me every time I watch it!
Favorite commercial? I love the one where the dog gets blamed for getting into the trash, so takes the poloroid picture of the cat getting into the trash!
Favorite piece of clothing? I had a flannel nightgown for over 10 years! It finally was truly falling apart, and had to go.
Favorite restaurant? Mesquite (sp?) Willie's. Prime rib that melts in your mouth.
Favorite music? Bruce Springsteen, other "true" rock bands of that era.

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
1. Waterworld - everybody I have ever talked to slammed this movie - I like it!
2. I really like commercials so this is hard--right now I would say the one wherethe kids are refusing to eat -"too much whine with supper?" or the Green M&M with the parents in their son's room. One of my favorite oldies is the operatic Rice Krispie one.
3. A pair of denim shorts that are actually too big - the waistband is all frayed and finally had to sew up the crotch. There are soooo comfy.
4. I don't guess I have a favorite rest. Lately my taste buds have been changing. My two favorite foods are hamburgers w/fries and Cobb Salad.
5. If I have to pick a favorite it would be soft rock, but like most of us here I like a wide variety (NO RAP) I like alot of the new stuff - Creed, Dido, Nelly Furtado, BSB etc. mary

3. I have an pair of gym shoes that are nasty but are so comfortable I can't part with them!
4. Magianno's

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
I just love these...doesn't reading other people's responses make you want to go see their movies or go out to eat???
My answers--
1. Little Women--the movie itself isn't embarassing, but if you saw how I cry through the entire movie every single time I watch it I promise that you would feel embarassed for me.
2. The one for monster.com (?) where all the little kids give phrases for what they want to do when they grow up: "I want to file all day."
3. I have gray velour pyjamas from the Gap that are older than I care to admit. My husband hates them--they're the one article of clothing I own that he would love to burn.
4. Muldoons, on Route 46 in Ledgewood, NJ. We became regulars after DH drilled through the 220 line to the stove and have been going 1-2 times per week ever since.
5. I'm an 80's addict (again, to my husband's embarassment) a close second is Mary Chapin Carpenter--she just seems so in tune with what women really think.

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
Okay, here we go
1. I love all of Pauly Shores movies, but please don't hold that against me.
2. I'm a commercial junkie! I really like a lot of the ones mentioned above, but the singing bellybuttons really crack me up right now.
3.I have 2 concert tees ,Motley Crue(Go TiggGrrl!), and Aerosmith, that I'm afraid to wear anymore because they're so tattered.
Also, I have a BUM shirt from HS that has gotten into a few good bike accidents with me. That I do still wear
4.I love Chili's! Also, there is a local place called Front Street that is amazing, but we don't get to go there very often.
5.I like almost all music, but my collection is mostly older metal and top 40

Re: More "getting to know you" questions
My turn!
1. "Bring it On"...sappy cheerleader movie starring Kirsten Dunst
2. I've said it before...the GEICO commercial with the Mom running down the street as if she's driving...observing all traffic rules, but she has NO car! She 'pulls' up to school and honks her airhorn...etc...I just love the bumper sticker!
3. I have a pair of jeans, in fact I'm wearing them now, that are so old and comfortable, I hardly know I'm wearing them. They are frayed everywhere and there are strings all over, but I love them!
4. Hops- Love their chicken gumbo!
5. Old R&B, new R&B, country, rap (not the hardcore stuff...Will Smith rap), gospel, soft rock, jazz
