As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

i know most don't htink about this but i would like to know of urgent cares that are near FW and the parks. i hope nothing happens when we are down there but i want to be prepared.
I know that when we needed a clinic for my son, we went to the front desk and they advised us of where to go. The doctor was very nice. We got the prescription we needed. Disney was great as usual......
Unfortunately we spent some "quality" time at an urgent care a couple years back. It was really close to WDW ( I think closest to the DTD area).
They were really nice and got us in and out as soon as they possibly could....had to be there for awhile as husband was sick as a dog (some stomach situation).
They got him up and running ASAP and we got on with our trip the next day. Poor guy was still really tired, but hung in there.
If you go the front desk or even call they will get you a cab or give you quick driving directions.
If you're in a park and need care, go to the First Aid station. You'll then be transported at no charge to the urgent care (closest one is just outside Downtown Disney) or the hospital, as seems appropriate.
Same is true at the hotels - let them know you need care. You can be transported to urgent care, the hospital, or they can call a physician on-call service. Generally, these are better options than jumping in the car and trying to find it on your own. We do list the phone number and address in PassPorter's Walt Disney World, of course.

The first time DD ever needed an antibiotic, it was on the plane down to DW (I think I know every bathroom in MCO). We were staying off-site (Vistana) and we went to an urgent care facility just outside DTD. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it. They were very nice and arranged for a ride for DD & me back to our hotel. She got her antibiotic (she ended up with a UTI) and we had no problems the rest of the trip. I did notice, though, that many of the Disney employees used this facility. Several of them came in during the time we were there.

When I needed an urgent care at WDW they sent a van for me, took me to the doctor and then brought me back to the hotel. Try not to worry - if you need help you will certainly get it.
The name of the one near DTD is Centra Care. Year before last, then 8yo DD dropped a very large suitcase on her foot in our room at the Contemporary. It was very bad, so I went to the front desk. They didn't do anything but hand me a brochure for Centra Care. No van, offered no assistance, nothing. I wound up having to take a bus to DTD and collect my car from the parking lot where my then 18yo DD was using it, drove to Centra Care (after getting directions from a DTD CM). It was about 2 hours from check in to exam/xray (fractured foot). The pharmacy is right there, too, which was handy for her pain meds.

We took DS to the hospital right by Disney the day after we got there, it was not very far at all. Sorry I dont remember the name but we drove ourselves. They were very helpful and made DS as comfortable as they could.
We've been to the CentraCare clinic as well. DD had a very bad sinus infection. We were at DTD when I decided she was so sick. We went to guest services and the van showed up. To the clinic, pharmacy and back to the van. The driver asked if we wanted to go back to DTD, I said that was fine, I could catch a bus. When he asked, I told him we were at AS Sports, he said that was closer and took us right "home" I was so thankful there was such an easy way to get medical care, even when we did not have a car.
Another thought: If you have a non-narcotic prescription at Walgreens, you can pick it up at ANY Walgreens. So, if your hometown doctor calls you a prescription to the local Walgreens, you can pick it up in Florida. I keep my Epi-pen prescription at Walgreens for this reason. I can get a refill at my regular store, by my dad's house and even out of state.
Good Luck and hope no one gets sick on vacation.
We needed care for Grandson on last years trip, the very first night we got there. unfortunatly it was after the hours they had anyone at the care centers and past the time they come to your room. DIL took a cab from hotel to Celebration Hospital with him where she was most impressed with care. They gave him excellent care and the resort even sent someone for the perscriptions the next day.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
Wow! Sounds like most of the care was great. I was hoping to not need this information, but as DS has an ear infection and DD has been having migraines, I may need it.
Thank you for the information.
Unfortunately, we have used that services of CentraCare several times. Each and every time we have been most impressed with the care we have received. We have had the doctor come to the room, gone to the clinic just past DT, and been transported from First Aid to the hospital. Not only does the clinc staff do a great job, the First Aid staff is wonderful as well. I highly recommend the clinics, but hope you never have to use them.
Can someone tell me about having the doctor come to our room? Can we bill it to insurance? Do we have to pay for it then? How does that work?
Thank you very much!
Well unfortunately, it is looking more and more like we need to arm ourselves with the best info we can. DS went to Urgent Care here today and has a double ear infection and well I think possibly something more. He spiked a temp to well over 103 this afternoon and his breathing already bothered by the congestion in his nose looks to be worsening. We leave Tuesday morning at 5am!!
Thanks for any information you can share.
