Has or Does anyone planned on getting in room refrigerators? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Has or Does anyone planned on getting in room refrigerators?
What has anyone's experiences or is anyone else planning on getting a in room fridge? I'm traveling with a little one who will require milk while we're on our trip and I know most of the restaurants in the Value Resorts close at midnight. What does Disney charge for the fridge in room and do they charge for your whole stay or per night? Most of my Disney trips we stayed at other hotels in the Orlando area and never had one in our room. Disney's website doesn't give any indication of how much their in room fridges are. Any replies will help a great deal. Thank you.
If we are staying at a value resort we always ask for a fridge - they are $10.70 a day with the tax. They are no extra charge at the moderate and deluxe resorts.
Thank you for the tip. That isn't too bad per night. I wish we could afford to stay at one of the Moderate or Deluxe Resorts, kind of not in our budget. I think we're leaning toward Pop-Century since they have the delivery of in park merchandise to your room. It will be worth the price though for a fridge to keep some milk and light breakfast items that need refrigeration besides a b-day/anniversary cake leftovers in. That was one cost I was uncertain on how much to facture in for accomodation prices.

All the value resorts are great - we love them! Also, any Disney on-site resort offers the merchandise delivery service. The purchases are shipped from the park to your resort gift shop (usually the following day) - it's a great service!
Thank you for the information on the Value Resorts and that all of the resorts do the Park Merchandise Delivery to the Resort Gift Shop. When I was comparing the 4 Value Resorts the other day, the only one listed on the Official Disney Website said that Pop Century offered it. Although we're planning on bringing our son's larger stroller with us that has a basket underneath, there's only so much room for bags and I know Disney doesn't offer lockers. That's one of the things I wish they offered even for $10 a day to store any items you don't need all day. It's hard enough carrying around enough diapers, wipes, snacks for a little one, a Autograph Book, pens, sunscreen, extra clothes, and then anything else the Adults need all day. Not enough room. At least that will be one less thing that will need to be carried around all day. The other thing I wish they would offer since I know they started to do the Fast Pass for certain times, you would think since they charge you a nice amount to stay at their onsite resorts, they would add that as one of the Extra Magic Benefits for anyone staying onsite besides extending the park hours to those staying onsite.

There are lockers at the parks! They are $7 plus a $2 deposit. They are not huge by any means, but a decent size to hold soem extras. We store our rain ponchos, extra water bottles, etc. in them.
Thank you for mentioning that they do have lockers. I'll have to inquire about that if somebody else doesn't mention it. Given we're driving and will more than likely will have some perishable items with us, a fridge is in our best interest. I know we will be doing the dining plan to use in the park for lunch and dinner (with 1 night out), but the Value Resorts I know the food court area closes at midnight, so to keep some drinks incase we miss their closing time in the fridge or some yogurt and milk for Cereal for breakfast to purchase from the grocery store is probably a good idea. I know the little one will go through milk and I would hate for that to go bad. It would seem more convenient to have it on hand in the room for him. I guess it goes to show that it's been that long since I've been to Disney and stayed at an onsite Resort (I think we had a cabin at the Wilderness Lodge when I was 6) and all other trips we stayed at other hotels in the area. Not having to worry about parking and the shuttles throughout Disney are the biggest convenience and worth the extra money per night when a little one is coming on the trip especially for a mid afternoon nap.
They have lockers! I think I paid $8.00 with part refundable at MK.
They have package delivery! If you stay on site, you can have your packages sent to your resort, so long as it is not your last day. This applies to any Disney resort. We stay at AS Music and use this all the time. You can also send packages to the front of the park and pick them up when you exit.
Fridges are $10/day as stated in the value resorts. If you have medical need (we store insulin and special dietary items) there is no charge. Just request that with your reservation and again at check-in. If you are in a Family Suite, there is already a fridge and microwave. And don't buy your milk in the food court; buy it in the gift shop where it is much cheaper!
I understand Universal provides a type of front of the line privilege for on-site guests (you can also buy a FP), but I would be sorry to see WDW divide their visitors into those who can afford or were lucky enough to get a room on site, and those on a very tight budget who stay off site. I like the idea that you can get an early start or stay later if you are on-site, but I think it would devalue the experience for off-site guests if they were to find all the FP gone by the time they got there...which would happen alot.
May I suggest you think about getting a copy of Passporter? You will have so much information at your fingertips that you'll be confident and relaxed about your trip--and you'll be ready when someone asks: "Does anyone know...?"
I had a frig in my room at Pop. They told me the cost would be $10/day but they ended up not charging me for it. Maybe since you'll be needing it for milk for a baby they won't charge you either. Good luck with your planning.

Have a great trip!
Thank you Sandra for the information. I didn't mean for them to do away for the Fast Pass Machines for anyone who couldn't afford to stay at the Resorts, this was something I thought they would have offered a while ago and added it in for those who do stay there, given they are more expensive than any other Theme Park. I know Sesame Place and Hershey Park near where I live and have visited don't even offer any kind of fast pass lines for those even staying at their onsite hotels. Thank you for mentioning the Passporter, I'll have to get my hands on a copy of it.
If you are driving and have a mini van or some other vehicle with a lot of space, you can buy a small fridge for less than what Disnney will charge you for a week. I saw a mini fridge at Target yesterday for $60. The other choice is to get one of those coolers you can plug in but they don't keep things as cold as a fridge.
We plan to get a fridge for our room at POP in Sept. I have heard great things about the fridges. Mainly gonna use it for juice, and milk to have with late night snacks. We plan on using Garden Grocer to get some can drinks and sandwich meat for mid day meals since we only get 2 meals a day on the plan.
We had a fridge when we stayed at ASMo in August and the didn't charge us because we were using it for Milk for our daughter - the CM that checked us in said they do not charge if it is for medical or necessity.
Also, I highly recommend Garden Grocer if you have kids and are going to need some items for snacks/breakfast etc., unless you are driving and can pack those items.
