Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

What's your favorite "historical" period? (i.e. American Revolutionary period, Civil War period, etc.). Personally, I find pretty much all American history fascinating, but I have to admit that I've always been drawn to the American Revolution. Finished the biography of John Adams about a month ago and thought it was great. Reminded me that our forefathers were just men trying to do their best, but they all had flaws and fallings. I'm also a HUGE fan of the musical 1776!

I love the civil war, with a focus on women's history during the period. One of my favorites is the diary of Mary Boykin Chesnut, who was married to one of Jefferson Davis' advisors.

Thanks, Beth, for the good review of the John Adams book--I just bought it a few days ago and haven't started it yet.

Civil War definitely. While Yankee born and raised, I have a fasination particularly with the South.

September -- I bought that book a few years ago, but still have yet to read it. Did see something on her life on CSPAN and it seems like she was one neat lady!

Off to Gettysburg for the 'yearly' ghosthunting in October!

Aurora18--could you explain the "ghosthunting" event at Gettysburg. It's not that far away from Northern NJ and I'd love an excuse to visit.

Fortunately, I married a history buff, which makes my life a whole lot easier!

Any Biblical period interest me but my PASSION is 1st century Jerusalem - when Jesus walked the earth and the 2nd temple was still standing. My favorite reference is Albert Edersheim's "Sketches of Jewish Social Life". I firmly believe that you must understand this era of history to accurately understand the Bible.

My favorite time period? Civil War. I've read and watched everything I can find on that. I've even toured the Gettysburg Battlefield for several days.

Next favorite? WWII time period.

Although right now I'm reading about the American Revolution. "The Long Fuse" or How England Lost the American Colonies.

Just a little light reading.

Re: Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

I hove American History. I don't think I have a favorite period. I enjoy anything about the Colonial and the Revolutionary period. Have visited several Civil War battlefields. Loved the movie Gettsyburg. Have read Rumors of War and Winds of War. Both were about WW 2. When I was young I usually only checked out books at the library that dealt with US history. Wouldn't it be nice to fast forward about 100 years and see how current events play out? That way we would know the ending and wouldn't have to worry about what is going to happen next. Re: Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

Really bucking a trend here --

My favorite time period is Tudor England. It was a time of enormous social, political and economic change. The breaking of the stranglehold that the Catholic religion had on politics and ideology changed the course of history and was a powerful influence on world events for the next 300 years.

Second fav, Elizabethian England. Elizabeth was a fascinating characture, a clever and astute politician, and a sucessful woman in a world otherwise completely ruled by men.

Third fav, Plantagenet England. The chaos of the "Wars of the Roses" (a charming name for decades of bloody civil war, coined by Shakespeare) made Tudor England possible.

I can't pick one. I really like the 1960's. Women could vote and had more social freedoms than ever before. I can see myself at Woodstock (yes I know the last 2 weren't the same and I'm 18), at Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington, or at an anti-war protest.

I enjoy reading on American Indian History so I guess that would be my favorite time era.

Re: Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

hmm...I'd have to say it's a toss up between the Civil War period and the 1960's.

I've gone to Gettysburg twice and ventured out on a "ghost tour" on the last trip - scared the heck out of me, but we like to go on them wherever we see one available (there's a great one in St. Augustine, FL). I've also visited Virginia to get the southern point of view, very interesting to hear how different the perspective is on the same event.

As for the 60's, I can't get enough of them. I read and watch anything I can get my hands on. My aunt and uncle were at Woodstock and they must be sick to death by now of telling me the stories from those days.

Peace šoš

Re: Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

Any history fascinates me. I am always reading things. I try to stay away from mainstream stuff. I want REAL history, not Pablum.
Although, the History that fascinates me the most is my family's. I have a Grandmother that is 3/4 American Indian and she married a man that's parents were both orphaned in Indian raids on wagon trains.

Re: Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

Growing up I loved the pioneers and the wagon trains. Probably because I grew up in Oregon. I loved the Little House on the Prairie series of books. Later when I started on my family's genealogy, I discovered my mother's family lived in the same area, DeSmet, South Dakota, at the same time as the Ingles family. (Arrived about 2 years later, 1882, and lived about 14 miles south of DeSmet.) I had to go back and reread the books knowing my family was probably doing and experiencing the same type of things.

Doing genealogy makes history seem more real as I can place my ancestors in the events, such as the Civil War, Underground Railroad, Revolutionary War, etc. Noone on the wagon trains though.

Re: Silly Question Of The Day: 9/26

September--

Sorry for the delay in answering you... I didn't check the topic for a few days!

My roommate from college and her husband used to be Civil War Reinactors... until they had kids! Anyway, I went to meet them out there two years ago, and she and I did the ghost-tour thing. I thought it was a little hokey, and I was very disappointed because I do believe in 'something'.

While complaining it was hokey, two of the guys from John's battlion took me up to Devil's Den, and Triangle Field. It was freaky. It was 87 degrees that night at 9:30 on the battle field, and we were walking thru ice cold patches! Anyway a few months later my sister, myself and my best friend went back, and asked the captain of the battalion to take us up to the battlefield at night. It was awesome! Definitely full of energy!! And all of us got pictures, in different areas, with 'questionable' figures in them. My DF and I were recently looking at the photos, almost a year later, and found a confederate soldier in one that was taken in broad day light. And, I know as sure as I live and breathe, there was no one in that field when I took the picture.

Its nothing formal, just something I enjoy doing! I know that the Parks service in Somerset County was going to plan a trip in November out there... might be worth checking out. Email me if you want more 'ghost' stories!
