As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

DJ is working on yet another leadership project for Earth Day this semester for school. (He's a student of PA Leadership Cyber Charter School.)
DJ has pledged (that is to say we all have ) to pack and eat waste-free lunches every day for all of Earth Week this year and to try to convince ten other people/families to do the same. So, along with our own extended families and friends, we're challenging you all to pack and eat waste-free lunches, too! DJ often packs himself bento lunches, so his teacher challenged him to turn his hobby into this semester's leadership project.
The reason I'm mentioning it now is so anyone who's interested can keep an eye out for reusable lunch containers on sale between now and then and to learn more about how to pack a waste-free lunch before you take the plunge. BTW - did you know a waste-free lunch costs about half as much as a regular packed lunch? That's nearly an extra $500 a year for the WDW trip fund per person!
DJ has had great success with his leadership projects, so I'm optimistic about this one. He set himself a goal for last semester to collect $50 for UNICEF - a fairly lofty goal as most kids only bring in about $20 in change. DJ JUST managed to collect all $50 - and most of it was on Halloween night. He was amazing!
Is anyone willing to try a week of making waste-free lunches? You could take pictures and post on your blog here on the boards or I could start one for everyone to reply to with pictures of their waste-free lunches. It's such a small change that can make such a huge difference! And if it works for you, maybe you'll tell someone else about it and so forth.

We pretty much do that already. His lunch container is reusable, his thermos is stainless steel. I cut up fruit for him everyday and put it in reusable containers and the same for his sandwich. The only thing that isn't reusable is the paper napkin (a renewable source). A 7 year old boy being responsible a cloth napkin? He barely keeps track of his hat and gloves.
I hadn't thought of the cloth napkin. I think I'll buy DJ a few handkerchiefs to use. We usually just wash our hands or use paper towels to clean up after lunch, so I'm grateful for the reminder about napkins!
BTW - yes, even though we cyberschool, DJ does pack his lunch. He's more interested in eating lunch if he helps make it and there's a definite amount of food so there's no putting off afternoon lessons by saying he's not finished/still hungry/etc. When the food's gone, lunch is over.
OMG! that is so cool... I do it already since it's also cost effective... Buying in bulk that putting small amount in little plastic container like yogurt and apple sauce! And to make them more appealling I put some stickers on the cover. But could you tell me again when is the earth week so I could takl about it at my kids pre-school? please And for those cloth napkings, if you sew you could make nice one from disney fabrics...

Tell DJ that Dan will do it too, if he counts. Dan's the only one in our house who takes a lunch (and breakfast too because he eats two meals at work each day). But he already does the reusable no-waste lunches so he won't be a new recruit and I don't know if that will help with DJ's pledge. Dan keeps a plate, bowl, travel mugs, regular ceramic coffee mugs and cutlery at work. He takes leftovers for his lunch in one of the 2 covered glass microwaveable containers that he won for some environmental contest at work two years in a row. He keeps a box of cereal and brings a Rubbermaid container of milk to work for breakfast. AND... he carries everything in a canvas bag (another prize he won for some environmentally conscious contest they were having at work).
We're pretty big into "green" at our house because that's Dan's job.
I'll do it!
I already try to do something close - but not quite. I do still pack some things that are wrapped (like granola bars) on occasion, and use paper napkins. I'll start carrying cloth napkins, and try to carry only things that do not produce any trash.
I'll make it a goal to also eliminate all my bottled water/soda and only carry those that I pack in a reusable container.
For some reason, it won't let me edit - but I wanted to say that when I read your post title, I thought maybe DJ had decided to eat only green foods for a while, and wanted all of us to do that - or come up with the oddest green food we'd ever eaten.

This is mostly for bento lunches, but bento lunches are the original waste-free lunch, so it's a good starting point. And who can pass up bento boxes for $1.50 each?!
Look how fun waste-free lunches can be! It's a Wall-E bento and nearly waste-free. (That Laughing Cow Cheese triangle would be a no-no unless you opened it at home and recycled the foil. )
Go DJ!!!!! We do waste-free lunches here Everything I pack for Luke and Brooke is in reuseable containers, I do not buy the single serving sizes of anything (those waste my budget!!!) and they bring our everyday silverware in there lunch boxes everyday. Yes, I've lost a few, but it's a small price to pay IMO.
We are pretty good about it already. We haven't found a good not-leaking drink container yet (and one that the jr. high, high school kids will use). And my dogs keep eating Jack's lunchbox, so he's been re-using a plastic bag from WDW...
