Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

odd dining plan/proof of age question

Hi all,

We are heading to WDW in 2 weeks w/ our 4 kids. We have the dining plan but am wondering if we need to bring proof of age? I guess this question would also apply to weather or not we'd also need proof of age for the kids for the park entrance tickets.

The reason that I ask is our 9 year old is very tall and has been mistaken as being older than he is because of his height. I told DH that I thought we should bring his b/c or passport and he told me no, he didn't think we'd need it and its one more thing to deal with/loose.

Anyone have any experience w/ this? I never remember being asked for proof of age on any of our other trips but then again, I never had a 5 foot tall 9 year old before!

Thanks

I'd just photocopy the passport and bring it, folded, in your bag or whatever. That's what I do with DD. I bring a photocopy of her birth certificate and just keep it tucked away "just in case". I doubt they'd hassle you, though.

I was never asked for proof of age for my DS. In fact on our last trip, I booked before he turned ten and they charged me for a child.....I told the CM several times "He will be 10 when we go..." He just ordered from the child's menu and if he wanted extra - shared with me or DH. In fact the only place I had ANY one question it was Boma where they asked his age. I told them 10 and explained what happened. She said, "Okay" and seated us for breakfast and charged us a child TS credit for the buffet.

You shouldn't need any proof but you can certainly bring it so you won't worry on the trip

unless your child has been featured on the discovery channel, i can virtually guarantee you they've seen children younger and taller. children are never required to prove age (although they may sometimes be asked). but if you're playing by the rules, there's nothing to be concerned about.

the worst thing that could happen is they bring him to the kitchen, cut him in half and count the rings just to be sure.

Fine by me as long as we only have to take 1/2 of him back...preferably the 1/2 that doesn't have the sassy mouth LOL

We had a similar scenario when DS1 turned 10 on our trip. He was allowed to order off the children's menu for the duration even though we had several days left of our trip.

If it makes you feel more worry free I'd bring a copy of the passport/birth certificate, but I'd doubt you'd need it.

I agree - if it would make you feel happier, then bring a copy of his birth certificate or passport, but I can't see it being a problem. :

My dd is VERY tall for her age and also looks older. People are shocked when they hear how old she is. She towers over the boys. LOL. We went in Feb. when she was 9 and were never asked about it. I don't think you need to worry.

I look at this as the Murphy's law thing....I ALWAYS take copies of my children's birth certificates when we travel...just something I do. The one time I travfeled with DD & DS alone it was a last minute trip and I didn't think of it...o course until I was standing in the airport to come home and they almost wouldn't let me check in for my flight because I didn't have it. I know that's airlines not Disney but honestly....the ONE TIME I didn't have it!!!!!!!! I'm sure if you bring a photocopy it'll make you feel better and you will never need it!

In all of our trips we've never had the ages of our children questioned. I wouldn't worry about it.

We have never had any problems. The first few trips we took, I brought along a copy of my DS birth certificate, but haven't the past few years. He is now 10 and charged as an adult so I don't have to worry about them questioning me about my 5'5" "child"!! But to make your trip as stress free as possible, perhaps make a copy and carry the birth certificate with you.

If having it will allow you to not worry than bring it. You won't enjoy yourself and relax if you're always worrying and as Dr. Phill points out if mom isn't happy nobody's happy.
