Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Digital scrapbooking question...

Was wondering if any of you do Digital Scrapbooking and if so, what program do you use or like? I still like doing the paper thing but am very interested in learning this digital way too.

Thanks! Deb

I've recently started digital scrapbooking and I really enjoy it! I use software called Memory Mixer, but that is really just because my MIL bought it for me as a gift...I hadn't shopped around for software or anything.

Why I like Memory Mixer (and digi-scrapping in general):
* MM has a number of picture layouts for those times when I just can't figure out how the page can look, but I can still move things around to fit my own creative whims.
* For days when I am *really* feeling creatively-challenged, I can use a Quick Mix, which plops everything on the page for me -- background, embellishments, etc., -- and I just have to supply the photos.
* I can easily add drop shadows to objects and photos to make them "pop" off the page
* I like that I can change things, resize pictures, make picture black & white, sepia, etc. and then change my mind easily.
* I LOVE that there is virtually no mess involved -- I can do a page or two whenever I have a few minutes, without worrying about my kids getting into my stuff and making a big mess
* I am amazed at the plethora of digi-scrapping freebies on the web -- I have purchased a few things, but most of my items are freebies.
* It is easy to convert the pages to hi-res jpgs to have them printed into a book.

Some things I *don't* like about Memory Mixer --
* It takes up A LOT of space on my computer...DH has set up a whole server just for me to put my scrapbook pages on because of the space it takes up.
* I can't zoom in and see page elements in more detail
* I can't make custom size pages...it has to be 8-1/2 x 11 (landscape or portrait) or 12x12, or their one card size...nothing outside those parameters (kind of a pain right now, because the place where I'm planning to print does 8x10 books)
* I can't view pages as a spread -- I have to view each page separately
* It's a little tricky to add freebies to the embellishment list -- but once you figure it out, it's a snap

I am not planning on using Memory Mixer's web site to print my book...using Blurb.com for that because they are cheaper and can do more pages.

You can see some of my pages from my Disney trip at Kori : photos : Walt Disney World Scrapbook Pages- powered by SmugMug

Hope this helps! I always intended to do scrapbooks the traditional way -- I even have boxes full of photos filed away for just that purpose -- but I never got around to it. I am doing a lot more now that I can do it all on my computer.

Your layouts are great! I'm glad that you did a review on Memory Mixer..I've looked at this software for about 2 years now..and can't decided if I want to purchase it or not. Which version do you have? Can you import other digital kits from other designers or do you have to buy theirs? Again, I love digital scrapbooking and use Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 to create my layouts and at times think...this is taking way to long!!! Thanks again for such a great answer to this question!!

I use Memery Manager from Creative Memories and asolutely love it as I can do more than just albums. There are cards, recipes cards, invites, slide shows, email capability to friends and more. I can upload to send to their printer or export to send to other sites like almart, kroger, shutterfly, etc. Please visit www.mycmsite.com/angelavance if you would like to learn more. One version is FREE download to try and there is an upgrade version that has more functions. There are page downloads available so you can customize to types you like as more become available. You can also share created items so other can purchase as well. It is very easy to make an album and purchase multiple copies as gifts say for xmas.

An awesome product!

I have Version 2, which I *think* is the latest version.

You can import other kits, but it's a little bit of a pain...you have to find the program in the Program Files and navigate to the Embellishments and put them in there. Once you do it a few times, it's fine, but the first few times is a little confusing. (If you buy the program, PM me and I'll explain how to do it.)

If you buy items from Memory Mixer, they have a program that you run that automatically puts the items into the right folders. But, as my computer's hard drive will attest, you can DEFINITELY download stuff...it has become my new addiction! LOL! It just needs to be a .png or .jpg file. You can also create your own things and use those...I've done that a little, too. (I have Photoshop.)

My biggest complaint is that I can't zoom in...I'm always wishing that I could do that to see if things are lined up just right. And, because I usually do a spread of pages, I wish I could see the two pages at once. But other than that, I've been pretty happy with the program.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions!

Your album is great Kori. Where did you get the Disney stuff? Sorry I don't know the proper page names.

Thank you! Before I started the project, I bought a bunch of Disney kits from an ebay seller. I think they've just scanned actual papers, tags, etc. Then, I found several people giving away digi-scrapping freebies that had a Disney feel to them and I've used those. I'll look and see if I can find the sites again...I'm not good about keeping that info...give me a bit and I'll be back. :-)

OK...here's where I got most of my Disney stuff:

Most of the freebies I downloaded (and some paid-for stuff) are listed on this blog: On My Mind: Disney

This is the seller on ebay where I bought several kits before I found the freebies online: eBay Store - RLR Creations: CARD MAKING KITS, DISNEY DIGITAL, PRE-MADE PAGES

If I find links to any other sites I used, I'll let you know! :-)

I organize my pictures with CM Memory Manager and do digital scrapbooking with Storybook Creator Plus. I love it. It allows me to have as much creativity with my digital scrapbooking as I do with my traditional scrapbooking. AND CM came out with a whole new set of DISNEY stuff (in all of their lines, traditional, and digital stuff this past June) LOVE IT. I have lots of ideas for my pics already and we don't even go until January.

I played with the free HP software last month to see even if I would like to do digital scrapbooking. It was a great way to get a feel for what it was about with out spending a dime.

Kori -

Did where did you get all the Disney related "stuff"

Thanks everyone! You all gave me a lot to look at and read. Looks like this Digital Scrapbooking could be another addiction .

It's already started as I went out and purchased a printer that can do 13 x 19 inch pages. It's an Epson Photo 1400. Was easy to set up and have to admit the photo quality is very nice! I'm a HP person and was a little sceptical on getting this printer but when comparing the Epson to the HP (Staples happened to have both on display) the Epson won out. Now just to get the digital thing down
