As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Can you believe it my parents have NEVER been to WDW!
They have been to DL.... But that was 37 years ago!!
Now my Dad has absolutely no desire to experience the Disney magic! It's just not his thing.
But my Mom would just love it!! But we can't seem to convince her to come along! She has trouble walking any kind of distance, but we've told her we can get a wheelchair in all the Parks. Then she says she doesn't want to interrupt a Family vacation! How do we convince her that she is family!
We love Disney so much, it's even better when we can share it with other's and show them the magic we feel!
Now I know that she can't do the kind of day we normally do, but since we are staying at the GF this trip it would be very easy for her to head back to the hotel when she got tired.
Well when I head down to pick up the boys I'm going to bring our 2000 Disney Vacation video. Maybe that will convince her to come!
Wish me luck!!
I'll be back on the boards on Sunday night & let you know how it went!

Hope it works out. It is wonderful that you want to include her in your plans. And we know she'll find a lot to like about WDW and more time with her family. to boot. Good luck. -HiddenMickey

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Good Luck! I hope she'll change her mind. Just keep telling her that you want her to spend time with the family!
I have a similiar problem. I know my parents would both love Disney, especially my dod. I would LOVE to take them. But they won't go because they (my mom mostly) are boycotting Disney (They listen to religious radio programs). They feel Disney has lost their family values. I try and tell them that you can't go to a more family friendly place, but they won't listen.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Wild, I know what you mean about your mom and the family thing. We're trying to convice my mom to go with us in 2002. She would like to but says she can't afford it. We keep telling her to stay in our room, it's just me, DH and DD who will be 71/2 at the time. She says it's a privacy issue. Go figure!
Good luck getting your mom to go.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I can't believe there is anyone that hasn't experienced the wonderful magic that we are all in love with!
Why not have the kids hit her up? "Grandma, I'll always have that special memory of you and I at disney!" A little guilt goes a long way from an adorable grandchild! (It works on my Grandma, anyway!)

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
We took my wife's Mom in 97 and my parents in 98. None of them wanted to go, at first. They all had the time of their lives at WDW. My Dad still talks it up big time at family gatherings. "You should see how Disney does..............." My kids are always talking about the trips with them, "Gramma remember when.........."
We are so glad we kept after them.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
Let her know that Disney takes care of the people who visit. You are right if she tires easy she can head back to the Hotel. Maybe you could ride back if she feels overwhelmed by the size of the place, afraid to get lost. I work with someone who's Daughter & 8 yr old Grandson took Him & his Wife to WDW. Gramma had Lung Cancer & a very short time left(2 months),but her wish was to Disney thru her Grandson. They went, had a great time. Used a Wheelchair to get Gramma around the Parks.Yes, she got tired & they would take breaks back to the Condo they rented.
So let your MOM know that she does not have to feel she can't handle the Disney Routine because of her age. Family means flexibility
for all members. It means sharing the Memories of a Disney Vacation. A DisneyVacation does all those things. Keep working on her, let her know that many others have had the same concerns & found out they worried for nothing.
Good luck ... I hope that you can convince her. I have been hinting to my Dad that he should go with me & his 3 grandsons.I think he should experience their excitement, just like I wanteed to share it with him & my mom the firsttime I went.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I hope you can talk your parents into going
to disney with you. Back in 1997 my parents
called me and ask me if they were to old to
go to disney with us, I told them you are
never to old to go to disney and they ask if
we would mine if they went along I told them
they were more then welcome to come along
and til this day they talk about their trip
we took together. They would go with us to
the parks in the morning and go back and eat
lunch at the all star sports and take a nap
and we would go to the water parks then in
the evening we would take them out again.
We had a great time and this is somethimg I
will never forget. So I hope your parents
will go with you.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
It's hard getting grandmothers to Disney. My grandmother used to have a hard time walking distances. We wanted to bring her to Disney, but only got her there once. Still, it was nice to have her there. My boyfriend's father has MS, and the whole family went to Disney when he was very debilitated. He couldn't walk, and had to use a wheelchair. But Josh remebers it as a great visit. The family got to get on rides faster, and got to see behind the scenes things. Plus, it was one of the last family vacations they took before he died.
I hope she goes--plus the Grand Floridian is a wonderful place for older people. It's so lovely, and if your mother has ever seen "Some Like it Hot", the GF is modeled after the hotel where the movie was filmed, the Del Coranado. Good Luck!!!

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
SHE SAID YES!!!
Thanks everyone for all your great ideas!!
Cruella read them all to me over the phone, so I tried them all!
The boys & I just kept after her this weekend telling her what a great time we would have if she came along!
It took most of the weekend to get a final commitment from her but it finally worked!
Aurora18- the pleading faces of two grandchildren did help.
One of her big concerns STILL is being able to get around with her legs! She is afraid that since she is able to walk(but not well, far,or very long!) that she would look funny being in a wheelchair, and that there would be no one else in wheelchairs!
Now I seem to remember from our last trip that I saw quite a few people with wheelchairs and many of them did not have outward signs of disabilities! I seem to even recall seeing a few walking behind their chairs on occasion.
Am I remembering right or will she be mad at me when she gets down there???

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
You are remembering right WildForWD! I have seen many in wheelchairs during our visits.
I think it is fantastic that you ALL have finally talked her into going ...... now I just have to work on my mom (It is the snake and cute little lizards that she doesn't like.... but bugs and spiders don't bother her at all :confused
Taking or renting a wheelchair for those with difficulty walking distances is a great idea. Will make the stroll through the parks more enjoyable.

WildFor WD-
I'm so glad your mom decided to go. I'm sure she'll have a wonderful time.
I've seen many folks with wheelchairs that are in and out of them. I hope she agrees to the wheelchair. It's tough and tiring enough for those of us who have younger legs.

Re: Trying to get Mom to WDW!!
I am so glad your mom decided to go Wild, I know she will have a great time. We're going in Sept wiht our two kids and my mom and dad and my inlaws are also joining us. My inlaws have never been before and I know that my FIL will never stop talking about it. It will also be neat for them to see their grandchildren witness the magic of Disney for the first time.
