As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Is it really worth doing the land/sea trips, a cruise along with a stay in Disney World? Since its only 3 or 4 days depending in Disney World, I'm not sure that'll be sufficent for my family.

That really depends on what you want to get out of the WDW stay. For some people, it's a nice split. Others complain that they felt like they had to commando the WDW portion. I honestly would either do a 7 night cruise or a 7 night resort stay. Or 7 nights at WDW, a 7 night Western and a 7 night Eastern. The latter, or course, requires the benevolent wand waving of the money fairy.
We did a 4 night land and 3 night sea in July and it was not nearly enough time to do all we wanted. However, we had never cruised before and wanted to get our 'feet wet', as well as fufill my wife's promise to her brother that we would take him to WDW and on a cruise someday. If possible, I would book them separately as you have more control over $$$ and your itinerary.
If you have never been to Walt Disney World before, I would recommend doing WDW without a cruise. However, if you have been to WDW before and would like to experience a Disney Cruise then a land and sea vacation could be perfect for your family! Booking the land and cruise portion of your vacations seperately gives you far more control as well as the ability to decide how long you stay at WDW, which resort do you stay at and do you add the dining plan. Personally I have yet to be able to go on a cruise without sneaking in at least a few days at WDW. I just can't help it!
It's worth it to do a combo, however, as others have said, do them separately. Not only do you have more say over what you book and where, but you can decide your order as well. We did a 3 night cruise and then followed up with a week at WDW. Having done that, we determined that everyone was good for longer cruises and that it's better to do WDW first and then follow with the cruise. Though, we also determined that we'd do them separately, so next year is a 7 night cruise with only a day layover at WDW (simply because DH will be there already for a conference).
We usually make our own land/sea adventures. We book the cruise separately, then decide how many days we want to stay at WDW. It seems to work out a lot better for us. We can stay at the resort we want (on actual land/sea packages, there are only certain resorts you can choose from, all based on the category of your ship accomodations).

We are taking a different approach with our next land/sea. We have sailed on DCL 5+ times and been to WDW 50+ so this is a compromise, let Disney do everything trip.
I booked the land/sea for next labor day weekend while on board the double dip 9/27-10/4. DH is all disneyed out (not me). So I went with the 3 nights park and 4 nights cruise with Disney transfers as a compromise. We got the 10% booking discount and the OBC. We haven't been on the Wonder for a while so this works for us. I have done both rental cars and disney transport and for this trip, the disney bus will work. I wanted to coordinate this trip with the 2009 Pin Event usually held at Epcot, but oh no, they scheduled it for June 2009 instead... Maybe next time.
Well, as others have said it depends on if you've been to Disney before. I've been a few time before, so this last time DS and I did a 4 night land and stayed at the Poly, and 3 nights on the Wonder. Only because having never cruised before, I wanted to start small, but next time, I'll do them at seperate times. I want to savor them all individually and not partially, so no real rush, although I never felt rushed to "see the Park". It was s nice change of pace for a vacation. We followed the advice many others gave the first time around because we weren't sure if we would like cruising. After spending 4 days at WDW, the cruise was a nice way to unwind. We planned things separately because we couldn't find a L&S that matched our schedule. This time we are doing a cruise only (7 days) to get the whole experience, but I am going to miss going to WDW when I know I am so close!
