As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OK, I'm back in the game. After an awful July and August (due to back to school and the Disney trip), September didn't end up too bad (especially since DH lost his wallet and couldn't charge anything for a week!!)!! I'm bad, I know
October should be a good month for us... I've got 2 family birthday presents to buy and I am planning on starting my Christmas shopping. I've decided to buy for one family member a week (not counting my 2 boys) until December 1st. Then hopefully DH's bonus will cover the rest and it will be a non-charging Christmas...
Well September was great but October will be tough. We have both car
tag renewals, DH DL renewal, DH's birthday on Oct. 31st. and all the
Halloween candy to buy. I don't need to buy any decorations since we
have a ton already.
September was okay - traveling sucked a bunch of money out of me, but it all came back through reimbursements (well, it WILL be back once I get those checks - usually takes at least 2 weeks to get reimbursed). Wasn't as good as August, but not terrible either.
October is going to be tough! I've got that previously-mentioned expensive shower this weekend, and I'm attending a baby shower. Mid-October brings the wedding I'm in, which means hotel/traveling expenses. I've also got more work travel - most of the trips should work out to be no-out-of-pocket expenses, but I do have one to Florida and I'm mighty tempted to spend my one day off in WDW...maybe with all the per diem money I've saved I can justify it. I also really need to replace my digital camera that was ruined last month, and I have birthdays to buy gifts for on November 1 & November 2 - unless I literally wait until the last second, those will come from October's budget. Of course, then there's Christmas shopping...anyway, just another reason to keep tightening the belt!
Good luck everyone! And good to see some folks back.
Already spent $60 at Hello Kitty for a guitar strap/picks for 12yo and a few little things for Christmas. I would have just done the guitar stuff, but it was $10 shipping from $25-$50, so I wanted to maximize that outrageous charge.
I have to pay my dues for Toastmasters tonight, but that was expected.
Tomorrow is 9yo's b-day and even though I took her to American Girl and dropped a bundle, she still wants a "seal party" with Grandma and Grandpa, so I'm trying to do it on the cheap. I don't have another gift for her to open from us (a few things from my Mom from American Girl) and I'm torn about that. I spent a small fortune at AG, but I don't want to make that a "money memory" for her (a la Suze Orman). At the same time, she needs to understand that she WANTED to go to AG for her birthday and understood that was her gift from us.
What do you think about making a mini-scrapbook for her of the photos I took there to give her for her birthday?

That sounds like a good idea, Dawn! Plus it would give you the chance to make another mini-album!
I'm hoping October won't be too bad. The only extra expenses will probably be eating out and buying a few scrapping things at Archiver's during the MOA 7 meet next weekend. You can't go to Archiver's and not buy anything..... Then there will be the extra gas to drive to Chicago at the end of the month for that PassPorter meet plus whatever I spend eating out there. However Michelle and I are riding together, so we will be able to split the cost of the gas. I'm excited to go as I haven't been to Chicago since I was in high school. It will be fun to see the Chicago area PassPorters.
I've been good lately... I am on a really strict budget because I want my credit card debt GONE! Paid off 8% of it last month... hoping for the same (or better) this month!

Well the CC bill this month is MASSIVE - fortunately some of it is DD`s spending so she will give me the money for that. I`ll get paid on the 11th but it will be a low earing month as I had a two week vacation.
I`m buying a Christmas gift per week now, two already purchased.
DH an I are going to York for a couple of days, I`ve already paid for the hotel though and we won`t spend much when we are there.
I can`t believe its October already

I'm jealous that you are going to York! That was the first stop on our trip to the UK two years ago. We stayed at a delightful B&B there, not far from the city center. I hope you have a wonderful time!
Today should be $0 plus hopefully I will make some money as I just listed some items on both eBay and Craig's List. I've been lax about cleaning stuff out and listing it lately, so I need to get back on board. My goal is to have all my stuff cleared out of my DM's house by next spring. After school is done for the year, I will take anything left that I haven't already sold, and put it together into a garage sale.
Dawn, I think the scrapbook idea is wonderful. I made a small Disney scrapbook for DS on his 21st birthday, and he loved it!
I think I might go back to selling a bit on Ebay. I did pretty well with craigslist, and I actually have a few more items to list there, but if I can turn some of the yard sale stuff into $$$ this eyar, I will get my bills paid down faster!
