As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Here's a multi-part question for everyone. First, can anyone share how much they spent on souvenirs during their first trip to WDW? Is this a cost we should brace our selves for? Second, does anyone know if Cat's Meow pieces are available anywhere at WDW? Finally, can anyone share good locations for scrapbooking materials in WDW? Thanks! Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Hi Scott
Well, I'll preface this by saying my souvenir spending has dramatically decreased with each to WDW. That said, on our first trip to WDW, DH Joseph and I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $1100 on souvenirs Surely not everyone does this, but we did - at the time we weren't married, had no kids and 2 incomes so it was easy to do. Nowadays, it's more like $3-400.
I don't know that I've ever seen Cat's Meow stuff on WDW property, but I'm thinking the only place they might is in the Christmas shop at DD.
The new Disney's Wonderful World of Memories (actually, the old Three Rs store) at DD had the most scrapbooking stuff available. It is their brand, but they've got some neat stuff - papers, stickers, punches. Note, though, that they don't take any discounts there, so if you've got an AP or are a DVC member, you can save 10% at World of Disney and they do carry some, though not all, of the same stuff. So check there first if either of those discounts apply to you
Hope this helps! Happy Disney trip to you!

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
I dread to think how much we spent on souvenirs on our honeymoon in 1999 and on our return visit in 2000. This time, we were a lot better and really just stuck to sweatshirts, T-shirts, a few beanies and some pins, no more than a couple of hundred dollars.

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
I hated to answer this one, but off to my old passporter I went, in Nov 2001 we spent $1000 . But we did buy 2 animation cells. This was souvenirs for a family of 4 over 8 days.
I hate to see what the Nov/Dec trip will cost us this year. Good thing my ds have gotten lots of Disney Dollars from family, the toothfairy, Easter Bunny and from us, as allowance!

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
I'm going to ask Michelle if she can copy this post and try to send it to the Scrapbooking forum as well, you will probably get more response down there! Because I can't do it, and I thought I could!

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
It seems every trip we spend less on souvenirs. Now I plan ahead for large purchases. (you get to know what is carried if you go more often) Otherwise I usual budget about $200-300.00. That's for me...no little kids.
On scrapbook supplies... The 3R's in DTD and all the parks have some supplies. One of everything is enough and it still won't much in supplies(but alot in $) Don't forget to pick up the Mickey ear scissors! I heard that Mickey eyelets are suppose to be available soon, but I can't find out when. Anyone know if DL carries scrapbook supplies? Go over to the scrapping section of the boards for some great links on Disney scrapbook supplies!

Mickey ear scissors? I haven't heard about these - and didn't see them when we were there last month. Are they available anywhere else?

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
I usually budget $500 for souveniers- although I have spent closer to $800 before. I LOVE shopping for Disney things at WDW!

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Vicki, the scissors are called Mickey shears. They seem to be available in at least one shop in every park at WDW. I have heard that they are out of stock quite often.

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Here is a sample of the scissors that cut in the shape of the Mickey head. I cut with them on black paper and placed it on red paper to help it show up better in the picture. They are so cool!

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Thanks, Michelle, for showing me what they look like. Do they say who manufactures them? I wonder if they are available anywhere other than DIsney?

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Ooooh! Those are cool!! I was thinking that they were just Mickey-shaped handles not that it cut in Mickey head shapes!!! Gotta add that to my list of what to buy next time!

Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
Man, I gotta have those scissors too! lol We spent around $600-$750 on our first trip...but then, our kids and mommy dearest turned out to be avid pin collectors and traders, so that's where a good chunk of that went! As for scrapping stuff, I always pick up most of my things at our lss (local scrapbook store) as their prices are usually better, and they have coupons! Of course, I didn't know they had a store at WDW till after our last trip! As for the Cat's meow stuff, I've never heard of it I think, but good luck!! Re: Souvenirs and scrapbooking
I like to add some of my souvenirs to my scrapbook. The pressed pennies can make a good addition to a scrapbook page. I also use pins in my scrapbook, I just cut the pointy end off.
