As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I just read on another message board that Disney is discouraging this. Someone decorated there resort window and got told to take it all down or be charged $25 a day. Has this happened to anyone yet? I was wanting to decorate our room in Dec but if they are discouraging it and sending message that your going to be charged then I won't do it.
I used to always do that when I went.
I don't see why all of a sudden they would discourage doing it.
It's fun to walk around and look at the other windows around the resort.

On our 2002 trip, the boys' Power Rangers found their way from laying down on the table in the room to standing up on the air conditioner looking out the window one day while we were at a park.
I wonder how much decorations were in the window of the person who got that message.
I just looked up the message again and she had Mickey heads from home depot, some things she cut out using her cricut and some washable chalk pens. Some people are saying it was because of the pens. Some people say its because of the tape used to the stuff on the windows. And some people when they are decorating there windows aren't cleaning them off before they check out. So I suppose that's why there is a charge.
I would assume it would be because of the pens. I always put things on the window ledge, because most of the rooms look just alike!! Yes, I know the room number but it is more fun to have something in the window!

i just got back from YC a few days ago. i had tons of stuff on the window and door. no extra charge. i even asked before i did it. they said as long as i take it down when i leave, which i did. i had lots of comments on how cute it was. maybe that person got charged because they don't know how to clean up after themselves! i had window clings, tape, stickers (which, by the way, a front desk CM gave me to use!) and other such things. by the way, the doors at YC are wood, not metal so you need to use tape. i am not sure what the doors at other places are made of, i always assumed they were all metal...wrong again! hopefully this will help those of you who want to decorate the window. if you are using that chalk stuff, i think you could just ask mousekeeping for some windex when you are leaving. although, i don't know much about the chalk stuff.
We also decorate our windows all the time, but never with tape, pens, markers and such. We use window clings, either store bought or homemade, and magnets for the doors I imagine this stems from a less than considerate guest leaving a mess for mousekeeping to clean

It was probably the chalk pens. We were there for Christmas last year and I decorated our window with Christmas window clings and put up a string of lights around it.
We made a big poster board for dd's birthday in June and taped up a happy birthday streamer and nothing was said. I would think it was because of the chalk on the actual window, probably makes for extra cleaning. We also decorated the room with the streamers and a birthday banner at both resorts, CSR & Poly, and no one said a word.
