As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This will be much shorter, trust me. We would like to use Reward Dollars from a Disney Visa card. How is this handled by DCL at check-in? We are first-time DCL cruisers. Do we just give the Rewards Card to them at check-in and tell them to apply it to the stateroom charges and give a regular credit card to cover the overflow (which there will be lots of)? We will also have the $50 credit for booking with a Disney Visa, plus a credit from the travel agency. I know the on-line paperwork allows you to provide a credit card for stateroom charges, but don't know how the Disney Visa Rewards Dollars are applied.
Can someone explain this process to me (how you provide DCL with the information, how the credits are handled, and how you provide the overflow credit card for what exceeds your initial credits)?
Thanks a lot for all of your help! Have a wonderful day!
Jim
At any time during the cruise you can go the guest services desk and give them the Rewards Card. They'll credit the funds on it, then charge the rest to your credit card. And congrats on using the Disney Visa Card - it's my favorite way of getting vacation funds!

We've done this several times. Just as Sharon says above, you give DCL a credit card at check-in, but at any time during the cruise you can go to Guest Services and have the balance on your Disney Rewards Card applied to your account. The credits for booking with a Disney Visa and the travel agency should be automatically applied to your account. Guest Services can print you out a copy of your account so you can check to make sure.
When/if your account reaches a certain level (I think it's $1500 but I'm not sure), your credit card will be charged, and the remaining balance will be charged the last night.
Don't forget that to maximize the balance on your Rewards Card, you can call right before your cruise to move over Rewards Dollars (as long as there are at least 10 dollars available). The transfer takes effect almost immediately.
I used mine last December. I gave them a normal credit card to open my account. When I thought I was approaching the amount on the rewards card, I went up to guest services and had them apply it to my account. It paid for all my extras but about $20
Is there a way to put the reward money on before the cruise toward an account like for credit to be used as we accumulate charges (our trip is paid off)? My Mom has a rewards card and I applied her rewards to my account (she's not cruising with us) before the trip when I paid off my balance. I'm not sure they'd let me use her rewards on the ship being her name is on the card and not mine. She told me she's got more money she could put on her reward card (thanks mom!), but I don't want to do that if I won't be able to apply them once on the ship. Hope that makes sense.

Michelle,
I understand the gist of your questions.
To address the problem of using your Mom's card:
Well, to be honest, like many, many credit cards (and this is like most others), they really don't care who's name is on the card (the person handling the transaction just doesn't look or care, for that matter). So, to be honest, although in the fine print, I'm sure it says the rewards are not transferrable, but the Rewards Cards I have always received in the past DO NOT have a name on them -- just an account number and expiration date (although this may have changed). Who used the card typically only becomes a question if the charge is disputed. Disney Visa Card, and Chase Bank (the issuer), assumes no responsibility for a Rewards Card being used by anyone unless it has been reported as stolen or lost (I just read that on their website). So, I don't think you would have any problem using it, but I'm not recommending or accepting responsibility (sorry!), if you get a cast member who sees the details of the Rewards Card when they go to apply it. I just don't think in normal circumstances, you would have any problems using it on-board to apply to your account.
If anyone can comment further, please do. But, Michelle, I don't honestly think you will have a problem. If the currently issued Rewards Cards do have a name on them, you could say it was a member of your party or it's your maiden name (or play dumb, tell them your husband just send you to do this -- it's amazing what you can get away with). I know from personal experience that my fiance, at the time, used my credit cards numerous times and was never once questioned, even for a $5000 purchase. If there would have been problems with the card (such as needing to call the processing center), then there might have been, but she did have my authorization, although not in writing. However, with the rewards card, when the card number is entered into at least the WDW Resort system, it shows the balance and they ask how much you want to apply. I just don't think it will be a problem, but cannot guarantee that a freak circumstance might occur.
I wouldn't get too worried, but make sure you do have a method of settling your account in the event of problems using the Rewards Card.
To address applying credits prior to embarking on the ship:
From what I'm reading, and I do not have personal experience with DCL (but will soon, yeah!), it appears that the soonest it could be applied is possibly at check-in at the Port or most likely, while you're on-board at Guest Services sometime during the cruise.
If anyone has particular experience doing this, please help Michelle with your knowledge. I can just give practical advice to you.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarification...and have WONDERFUL cruise!
We had been using our Disney Rewards card as our primary cc so we could accumulate as many points as possible to use on our cruises. and I love the card, so don't get me wrong here. However, a month or so ago, I realized that it may not be the best use of points for us. here's my thinking:
1. have to spend $25000 on Disney card to get $250 credit (1%)
2. $25,000 on my American Express Delta Sky Miles card gets me 25,000 points-enough for an airline ticket. Living in Southern California, a rt ticket to Orlando costs upwards of $430.
So for the same amount of spending, I actually get more for my money by using my air card ($430 vs. $250).
Now, if you live closer with cheaper airfare or don't have to fly at all, this reasoning doesn't work at all. But for me, with airfare as high as it is (and getting higher), it works better.
I'll still use my Disney Visa for Disney Vacation expenses as I like the 6 months 0% interest and it's great to have a "bonus" on my onboard account. but i do most of my regular spending on the AMEX delta card (plus you get double points on grocery stores, etc.)
2. $25,000 on my American Express Delta Sky Miles card gets me 25,000 points-enough for an airline ticket. Living in Southern California, a rt ticket to Orlando costs upwards of $430.
I wish this would work for us, but we primarily fly with Northwest (Detroit is a hub) and finding a ticket for 25,000 points is next to impossible. It seems like they are running 50,000+ for any flights that would work.
I'm getting ready to embark on a Disney cruise 7/6/08. I plan to take a rewards card with me. How long does it take to get a rewards card once requested? We are leaving home June 30 to travel to Florida, and my statement closing date (when they apply points based on charges) is around the 28th, so I think I need to go ahead and order my rewards card May 28th. Can I call right before the cruise and have what I have earned since May 28th to the card that I have already obtained? Thanks
Mine came fairly quickly. Within 10 days I think. After you get it you are allowed to transfer over whenever you want, as long as you have at leat $10 available to transfer.

We received our last card within 2 weeks of ordering it (actually, I think it was closer to 1 week), so if you order now you should have it by June 30. You can then call anytime to transfer more points (as long as you have at least 10 points to transfer) and the transfer will be instantaneous.
I had an "aha" moment...
So for the same amount of spending, I actually get more for my money by using my air card ($430 vs. $250).
just thought I'd share my "aha" moment.
Quick question - doesn't the Delta AMEX card have an annual fee of $75 - $99?
I've never gotten an offer from them that did not eventually charge that fee; I think I may have had one offer that was 2 years free before that charge showed up. Back when I was debating which card was best for us, the annual fee weighed heavily against Amex cards.
<chuckle> OTOH if you did get a fee free one Congrats!
We're considering the Costco AMEX card which is annual fee free, or at least covered by the Costco membership fee and more $$ back but.... I know us and we'd spend the money on something ridiculous instead of our DVC fees or vacations. Sometimes restrictions are good things LOL~
nope, i wasn't so lucky. we are paying a fee. but somehow I justified it in my head. we'll see later if it actually works. I figured with the free ticket each year and double airmiles it was worth it. time will tell. trying to figure out how to best play this game to get the most bang for our buck. and with air prices going up, who know what will happen to using miles for tickets.
i'm with you on restricting use of points. I know if I had a $ back card it would end up going towards weekly groceries.
I see you're going to Hawaii in Sep. did you exchange your DVC points for II and how easy was it to get what you wanted. i've heard it's difficult. awesome for you if it worked! you'll give me hope for our current Hawaii search.
