Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My personal opinion

It is my opinion that once business picks back up and people start to visit disney more, we will see Disney start to reinstate many of the perks that they took away.

This time of the year is slow for Disney anyway, and since the September 11th attack business has gotten worst. People who had planned to visit Disney have either postponed their plans or cancelled them all together. I think Disney is doing what it needs to do to keep from getting in deep financial trouble. I do feel for those whose plans have been messed up but I myself would rather deal with a little inconvenience than to have the place close down all together because they did not cut back on their off season.

I think it is our civic duty to pour as much money into Disney as we can. So if you haven't already, and you have the money to do so, plan to visit in the near future. If you don't have the money for a big trip, try a few days. I am doing my best to save as much as I possibly can for our next trip.

It's just my opinion, but I really commend Disney for taking the steps necessary to preserve Walt's dream.

Re: My personal opinion

Amen!

And, by the way, I spoke to a CM yesterday morning who said that because of high attendance at one of the parks the other day, they extended park hours and added a parade that day. So, it's as the need occurs. I asked her and she said that this is all temporary until business picks back up. And I am willing to do my part to see that it does! I want my new Disney stock prices to go up, too!

Re: My personal opinion

You're absolutely right and you said it very well, Ursunique. As the crowds increase, I'm sure things will get back to normal.

And as far as supporting Disney, we're doing our share: trips for Dec. 2001 and Oct. 2002 already booked, shopping regularly at TDS, and ordering lots of stuff from the Disney catalog for our trip (even got my Santa hat with Mickey ears)

Got to keep the Disney economy strong

Re: My personal opinion

It was refreshing to see such positive viewpoints expressed in light of all the recent changes.
Yes, things may be different when I head to the world next week -- but nothing will spoil the magic my Dh and I experience. We are just going to roll with the changes, and enjoy ourselves. Because -- hey, we are going to DISNEY WORLD. We are just lucky to be able to go at all. Right??!

Re: My personal opinion

If I could come up with good excuses I would take time off school and head down. The fares and Resort rates are incredilbe. I have a number of people that want me to take them down and we split the costs.
I have been teaching for 20 years and have only taken a total of seven days off. Six for trips to Disney and one for strep throat.

Re: My personal opinion

To Elliot's Dragon: Maybe you should make it a field trip and take your entire class to WDW! It would help out Disney and the kids would think you were the greatest teacher ever!

Re: My personal opinion

We're doing our part - leave for WDW in 44 days! We started planning this trip two years ago and did consider postponing due to recent events but finally decided to go. Hey - the President told me to!

Yes - we are saddned to think that some of the things that we were looking forward to probably will not be there but so many other things will. I am actually looking forward to the character caravans as we don't take advantage of early entry.

It would be really nice if everyone could focus on the positive things at WDW and stop bashing the negative things. After all, these are happening right due to the economic climate and as more and more of us support WDW, and Disney in general, we will see things come back - early entry, POFQ, hours, etc. Also, we need to remember the poor CM's who have to listen to guests complain and keep a smile on their face the whole time while they are experiencing all this and MORE first hand. Let's give them a cheer for trying to make our vacation experiences as magical as possible!

Re: My personal opinion

Although I only live 1-1/2 hours away and can come several times a year....this said I must agree with all of you. Even though they are cutting back on some perks, going to Disney will still be.....well, going to Disney! The magic will still be there no matter what!

I also think it will help if everyone tries to adjust there way of thinking that they are not losing perks, but gaining time to check out other parts of the World that they would not have time to check out prior to the adjustments. These might end up being the most special parts of the trip that you will cherish the rest of your life.

I will now step down.

Re: My personal opinion

I totally agree! Now is the time to support the place that has given us so much! We are doing our part - trips in December this year and January and August next year. That' s more than we've ever gone before in one year! And we finally bought Disney stock to show our support. Just our way of saying 'Thank You' for the Magic!

Re: My personal opinion

It was really refreshing to read all the positive comments above.

You have all made good points..and I see lots of future trips coming up in the next months on the boards(36days for DH and I)which means that we're all trying to do our part to help. And just think how much money we'll be spending while we're there - ouch!

They do need our support and Lorri, you're right those CM's will still be smiling, that's just their way. We need to express our appreciation of their efforts. CM's are very happy just to see someone enjoying themselves and I'm sure get more than enough complaints daily.

I'm looking forward to a great trip - and hey alot of us are gonna be there at the same time....and will finally get to meet up with some of the folks that we've talked to on these boards.

Re: My personal opinion

You know as I was reading all the cut backs that Disney was doing I had a thought.......

When we were on our trip in May/June 2001 I was literally in pain after a few days from all the walking. I believe had there been shorter hours I probably would not have tried to cram so many things into one day. I believe, at least in my case, that with the long hours there is a need to do as much as you can because you want to see everything, and do everything to get your moneys worth. If Disney had closed earlier I would have been forced to rest. I am not justifying the cuts. Nor do I want them to make these cuts permanent. (I actually pray that business will pick up so much so that they will have to reinstate a lot of the cutbacks). I am just trying to look on the brighter side of things. Think of how much happier you will be to actually get a good nights rest instead of being physically drained by the time you leave. I hope this helps.

Re: My personal opinion

Ursula,
I like your reasoning, but that's completely opposite of how it would affect me . With the shorter day, I'm going to feel much more pressured to "cram" in more attractions before closing. If the normal December schedule was in effect, I'd still try to do a lot, but I'd know that I had sufficient time to see all the things I'd like to. Now it very well could seem like one big game of Beat the Clock...only without Bud Collyer...
