As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We are going to Chef Mickey's for our first night at WDW. We are celebrating both of our dd's birthdays while we are there. I was thinking about getting a cake for them (I know . . .a little silly because of the HUGE dessert bar). Do I need to order it before hand, or do I order it when we get there? If I need to order it before hand how do I do that? Should I do this at Chef Mickey's? I heard that Mickey will bring the cake out to you, which the girls would LOVE. Are they just little cupcakes? I guess what I am asking is should I order 2 or would I be good with just 1? Sorry about all of the questions, but I am getting a little anxious, excited, nervous, ummmmmmm, we'll just say I'm a little of everything. We leave in a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! OK. Got that out of my system . Any help would be appreciated.

Next visit to WDW (hopefully!) Aug 2010!
I didn't keep the number I called last year, but I'll tell you how I handled my birthday surprise last year. I called Disney dining and they supplied the number for the Contemporary's bakery. About two weeks before our trip, I called the number and worked out all the details with a CM then. We were having the cake made for our Wishes fireworks cruise, but it went off without a hitch.
I don't think they will take a request more than two weeks before the date, but you could certainly get the number before that. DS was very surprised and the chocolate cake we ordered was one of the best cakes we've ever had.
When we celebrated dd sixth birthday last year at WDW I ordered the cake when we got there. Called disney dining, asked to order a cake. They transfered me to the appropriate person-who it is I don't know. But they have a lot of options on size, flavor and decoration. I ordered a custard filled white cake. It had a picture of all of the princesses on it and had "Happy Birthday Princess Isabelle" on it as well. We had dinner at Storybook Princess Dining-food was not good. BUT that cake was the absolute best cake I have ever had in my life!
So I say go for the cake! You only celebrate your birthday, well that particular birthday, at WDW once!! Have fun!!
My husband did this for me at Chef Mickeys -- they had Minnie accompany the server as she brought it out to our family. (Minnie was the one chosen because I'm crazy [CRAZY] for her -- she even "signed" the cake!) Because we were a Grand Gathering of 13 people, it was a large cake and he remembers it as costing ~$30.
I do know that they have various sizes and flavors and, I think, you actually speak to the person who will be making it at Chef Mickeys. The easiest way to get to the right person is to call 407-WDW-DINE and tell them what you want to do and ask to be transferred to the appropriate number.
Wow, sounds great! I was thinking of doing this for my DD, but figured it would be a generic white cake sort of thing, maybe now I'll have to go for it!

MY DGD had her birthday button on when we ate at CMs last year, so the whole gang brought out a cupcake for her after dinner. It was also her parent's anniversary and since they had their anniversary buttons on too, they were also presented with cupcakes.
I have ordered cakes for all 3 of DS bdays at CM. When making my ADRs I mentioned that I needed to order a bday cake and they gave me the number to the Contemporary bakery. They only need @ 72 hours notice but I call @ a week in advance just to be sure. We have always gotten the Mickey face cake, cake shaped like Mickey's head with chocolate ears and a white chocolate insert painted to look like his face. Delicious!!!! Best cake ever!!!! Can't remember the exact price but I want to say @ $45. We had a group of 10 and had some leftover so I think one would be plenty.
I did this for my DSs last year, I told the cast member when I made our ADRs that we were celebrating their birthdays and then when we got there, they both got a signed place mat and a cupcake with a candle...and then everyone sang happy birthday

I did this for my hubby. If you want a personalized cake, it has to be ordered at least 48 hours in advance (I know because I didn't do this). On shorter notice, you can still get a cake but it will be whatever the restaurant has basically. I got a small one and it was 12.50 plus tax and tip (must be paid OOP). I called Disney Dining the morning of my DH b-day and either they set it up or they gave me the direct number of the restaurant (both free calls from the Disney hotel) so I don't have the number offhand. Hope this helps.
Hi everyone...this is my first post so I'm new at this.I need your opinions. This vacation is going to be a birthday trip and I was wondering which restaurant would be best to order a special cake. Le Cellier, Chefs de France or Ohana? I'm already planning on ordering the slipper dessert at CRT for a special 18th b-day. What about the others? Who makes the best cakes? Do you have any flavor ideas or photos? It's just going to be the three of us if that helps.
I've seen a chocolate one from Le Cellier that looked divine!
Truthfully, I think any of those restaurants would provide a wonderful cake -- you really can't go wrong! If you are going to a character meal, they will have the characters come out with the cake (if possible.) So, if 'Ohana is a breakfast, that might be best.
