Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What do you carry in the parks?

We're finally getting close enough to our trip for me to start thinking about packing! I got a Baggallini messenger bag to carry in the parks. I'd prefer to just carry it, and not have the extra backpack to store in a locker, etc. This would mean no spare clothes or jackets in the parks, but I don't think that will be an issue since we'll be there in May, a warm time. I wanted to get the opinion of you fine folks, though. Here are my questions:

--Do you take extra outfits or jackets into the parks with you? If yes, do you carry a backpack or something, or do you put them in a locker?

--What do you carry in your backpack, diaper bag, Passporter pouch, etc?

depends on the weather

I last visited in April 06 and pretty much only wore cargo horts and a t shirt although it still got cooler at night. I have never used a bag or back pack, but I never had small children with me. My sons were both old enough to carry a fanny pack or shorts and pants with large pockets. If you want to carry extra clothes the $5 for a locker is reasonable and you don't have to carry everything every where. Also consider any water rides like splash mountain to consider a dry clothes option especially after sundown. Have fun!!!

I have taken my fanny pack with sunscreen and a few other things incl. first aid kit and taken A backpack for any collectibles that we keep with us instead of sending them back to the resort. The backpack also has side pockets on each side so 1 water bottle for each kid. In the backpack we also pack extra batteries for all 3 digital cameras. I let the kids each have their own so we get all kinds of different shots. My DS is going to be 11 and I got him one for xmas because he wants to be a photographer someday.

I carry a Bagallini messenger bag into the parks. I don't take extra clothes or jackets (but then we're there in June). I do carry sunscreen and rain ponchos as those always come in handy in June. Also pack the camera, a fan or two, and a small first aid kit.

I always carry sunscreen, bug repellent, a small first aid kit and a spare memory card. It depends what park we're visiting if I carry other stuff. If we're at a water park or AK I'll throw in a long lens and possibly a monopod for action and animal shots. I can usually get everything I need in my big fanny pack.

Cheers
Craig

I usually have a fanny pack, which holds what I need. A small med. bottle, ID,Sunglasses, camera, my DVD camcorder just fits as well. When we have the Grandkids, under the stroller we have a plastic see thru with diapers and change of clothes. Have never had to use locker

I usually carry things like my camera, spare batteries and memory cards, sun tan lotion (very important for a fair skinned person like me! ), trip report notebook, autograph book for any characters we see, the video camera (although not every day) and a first aid kit.

We used to carry a backpack and a fanny pack all day, but we're starting to carry less and less each trip. This last trip, we used the lockers for anything we brought we felt we may need for the day (ponchos, sweatshirts, etc)...we found the lockers to be a great convinience and will use them from now on!

We carry one backpack with video cam, extra camera battery, wet wipes, rain ponchos, bag of snacks, 2 frozen water bottles, small kid sized towel (and spare undies-don't tell my kids). Everyone wears their hat and carries their own camera. I also wear a fanny pack with a few bandaids, my camera, some coins for pressed pennies, lip balm & sunscreen. In my passporter I have hotel card, itinery for the day, park map, coloured card stock for autographs, coloured sharpie, $10 just in case. Seems like alot but no heavy stuff so we keep to this list.

Last trip I carried (all in the Baggallini, with room to spare):

Video Camera and spare batteries, digital camera and spare batteries, two autograph books, small notebook, three pens, four small fans, sunscreen, Rolaids, park passes, four pairs of sunglasses, pins to trade, small first aid kit, rain ponchos - I know there was more, I just can't think of what else!

We have always carried a backpack, but spent a lot of time resting it on the stroller while we were touring. We used it for our camera, camcorder, quarters/pennies for pressed pennies, wet wipe towels, water bottle, mini fan clipped to the side, mini bottle of sunscreen, and ADR reservation #'s.

This time I'm touring with my mom- no kid in tow so no stroller. I will probably try to pack smaller and lighter. I really would like to ride Kali if the December weather permits, so I may take spare clothes and rent a locker that day, not sure yet .

I have heard a lot of people rave about the Bagellini Messenger, and I'm thinking about getting one for our upcoming trip. I've read a lot about it but still have a question or two. Since we are going in Late August, rain Ponchos must always be available. Will this bag hold three folded (scrunched up!) size rain ponchos? (1 Adult size and two child sizes?) Is the bag small enough to fit in the little mesh holders found inside the cars of most Disney rides? Is it styled so a man carrying one won't get laughed at by his 9-year old son and 11-year old daughter? (No mother is in the picture here so the bag MUST NOT be styled strictly for women. My kids wouldn't let me live it down!) These are things you can't really tell unless you can see and hold the bag yourself so any input would be appreciated!

Here is the bag in black:

It also comes is a tan color, along with other brights. You can see them here: Baggallini Messenger Sling.Bagg - Rip Stop Nylon > Lightweight packable expandable bags > Travel Accessories - eBags. I know there are several men who carry them, either on the boards, or spouses of ladies on the boards. It will definitely hold the ponchos. I am not sure that it would fit in the mesh bags on the rides; however, it is very easy to swing it around so that it sits in front of you. I took it on everything I rode with no problems.
