A Horrible Day with a very funny ending (long vent/rant) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A Horrible Day with a very funny ending (long vent/rant)
I had my day from hell today......4" of snow to trudge through on the way to work...I am an "essential employee" at work, calling out is not an option. It wasn't so bad, as long as you took your time. I was working a 1/2 day, since Alex's Kindergarten registration appointment was this afternoon, so I knew I would end up relieving the 11-7 shift at the school/residential facility where I work, and then disappearing into my office for the remainder of my scheduled 4 hours....fast forward to the registration appointment....15 miles from home...30 miles from where I work.....in a part of the county I've never been to before.....
I park in the iced over parking lot and I hear a high pitched hiss (never knew there was such a thing as a high pitched hiss before) and start investigating. I localize the sound to my right rear tire....and start feeling around the tire tread...(silly me) like I'd be able to feel if there was a leak.....but what did I feel, and could almost see??? A great big whomping huge industrial type STAPLE that I had driven over at some point on my way to the appointment. I look at my tire, and notice that it is deflating at a rather rapid rate. So I call my hubby....who is usually the knight in shining armor type....except when there's a wrestling tournament.....I tell him what's going on, and his response is (note to other husbands...please DO NOT ever say these words to your wife when she's stranded with YOUR child in an unfamiliar town after a stressful day fighting idiot drivers to be prompt at a registration appointment requiring a ton of paperwork to be filled out, of which you did none of....just a warning).....his response is "just throw some air in it and take it to Sam's {which is 20 miles from where I was BTW} and have them fix it" I'm not sure what I words came out of my mouth, something close to "Ican'tdriveonitIwill justcallatowtruck".... but I was so angry that I just hung up on him. After the registration appointment, I came out to a tire that was 1/2 way deflated....and still hissing....I drove about 1 mile to a gas station, filled it with air, and had planned on taking it to the dealership I saw across the way....after 2 stops at places that couldn't get to me for AT LEAST 2 hours...(for what I knew was a 10 minute fix).....I ended up at a Sonoco station where 2 very nice (but scary looking) men were able to put a plug in it for me.....which for the record, would have been better advice (for any hubbys out there still reading) than "fill it with air and hope it lasts you the 20 miles I just told you to drive".
Fast forward to the funny part....we finally make it home, within a reasonable amount of time considering the day I've had, and I am VERY much looking forward to taking a nap with Alex for a couple of hours.....we're in my bed, snuggled under the covers, listening to the sleet outside, almost asleep when I hear a little "pffffft" sneak out from the young boy laying next to me.....in true XY fashion, he chooses that moment to re-arrange the covers, and the most putrid make you wanna gag odor washed over me.....since he had not excused himself (which he usually does right away), I offered a gentle mommy reminder...."Wow bud, that was a really stinky fart" His response......"Fanks Mommy!"
As an aside, the hubby is still in the doghouse.....he called 4 hours after I first called him to tell him I was having car trouble to "make sure we had made it home ok." He got hung up on again....not very mature, I know, but he'll know better next time.

Sorry to hear about your rough day. I would be willing to bet that your DH will never ignore such a problem as this again.
I had a flat last week, and I actually tried to change the tire myself. I got as far as jacking the car up, but then I couldn't get the lugnuts off. I was on my way to school, and for this particular class it is imperative that you are not late as the professor will lower your grade if you miss a class or are late! I had called DBF when it happened, but had assured him I could get the tire changed myself. Well when he called back again to see how I was doing, I had to admit I was having problems. So he offered to leave work early, switch cars with me, and take care of changing the tire and fixing the flat so I could get to school ASAP. I was much relieved! I was still late to school, but I did make it for part of the class.
Hope the weekend has been good. DO let us know what punishment you mete out to DH!
Welll...since you asked.....it all went well, after we talked. We're not fighters....I grew up in a fighting household, and don't want my son to witness the anger that I saw. We talked once I calmed down a bit, and the hubby and I were awake and home at the same time.....Sunday am.....he now understands that what he said made me feel like our family was taking second place to wrestling.....and that his first words should have been "are you ok" and not "drive on it anyway". He sees the error of his ways, and thanks to his exceedingly wonderful wife's graciousness, no punishment was deemed necessary. He promises to never, ever do anything so silly and thoughtless again. Although, I did like Chrissi's saran wrap idea, and it would have been especially effective at 5am.......I'll keep that as a back up if this ever happens again. He has been sufficiently penitent....I came home from work yesterday to 2 clean bathrooms and a husband who was vaccuming the house.....he's picking up our son from the sitter's tonight so that I can go home and get ready for a "girl's night out" (on Tuesday...whoo hoo) with some friends from work. He's a man, and even though I thought I had trained him better, I try to be firm yet gentle when he makes little mistakes such as this!! In general, he's an excellent husband and father, so I really don't encounter instances such as this very often...but as Dr. Phil says..."you teach people how to treat you".....all is well in our household!!! Thanks for letting me vent a bit!!
