Please forgive me but I know I can get answers here! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Please forgive me but I know I can get answers here!
This has NOTHING to do with Disney, but you guys give such good answers, I figured-what the heck .
I am having a yard sale next weekend. I am getting rid of a ton of movies (vhs and dvd's), and cd's among many other things that are cluttering up my house!! This is going towards my Disney trip in Sept '08 , so I hope I sale TONS!!!
For those of you out there that have sold and/or bought these types of things-what did u sale them for or buy them for? I have NO IDEA what to sale them for.
Thanks for any ideas . PS I am NOT selling any of my Disney movies .

Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. I did have several Disney VHS for sale at a garage sale 2 years ago. I priced them and $3.00 each - didn't sell that many. I also had CD's that I think we priced at $3 or $4.00 each. Some went, some didn't. Good luck.
In September I sold VHS tapes for 50cents (they were mostly used and bought from previous yard sales) and DVD's for $1. I sold most of them. I believe that in yard sales your items need to be priced to sell or you're going to be holding onto them for another year.
The one thing I couldn't get rid of were the computer games. Does anyone out there want a Wiggles computer game?
We just had a yard sale last weekend and I sold the VHS's for 50 cents, if it was a double VHS set $1 and the DVD's for $2. I tried to base the prices on what they sell for at the Goodwill and ended up selling all of them.
The lady down the street tried $5, then $4, then $3; mostly fairly new movies, but very few sold. Last bunch I bought at a garage sale, I paid $2-3 each, and they were fairly new movies.
DH sells our old DVD's on Half.com. They give you an idea on there of how much things are selling for. Most he gets between $5-$8 for depending on their condition.
DVD's are hit & miss & most of the ones I've seen sell ARE Disney.. I would stick a price tag on them of $1-$2 & then let the buyers offer less ( which they will 99.9% of the time) so let your price be a little higher than you're willing to go.. & even offer discounts " buy 3 get 1 free" type things.. if people think they're getting a great bargain they are more likely to buy .
If you also just want them out of your house ( with a profit) place a sign on the box saying " make offer on all!" I'll be they'll be gone in an
Just had our Garage Sale last week - for VHS tapes - if it's a single tape, people expect to be able to pay 25-50 cents. We've had lots of people giggle and tell us that they just went to another sale and someone had them priced for $1 or $2 and that they would never pay that. There seems to be a real market for people at garage sales looking for VHS at that price. 25-50 cents will sell your tapes - anything higher and you might still sell some, just not as quickly and not as many. Double Tape sets go for 75 cents - $1 and full boxed sets can get around $2-$3 depending on the set. Of course, it's all subjective to who comes to your sale and what they'll buy. Last weekend, I sold a freezer bag full of about 15 plastic cups my 3 year old gets when we go out to eat. Someone paid 75 cents for all 15 of them.
One other thought - around here, we have a place called "Bookman's". They offer trade credit for books, movies, music, collectibles, etc. What doesn't sell at our garage sale goes there and then we have "trade credit" to buy other stuff. You might have something similar in your neck of the woods. Good Luck!

Normal scott answer: Sell them for a million dollars a piece! That way you
only have to sell one!!
Werid actual useful
answer! I would take all my good tapes of all sorts and sell them
to second hand music stores!! They usually take most
of the good ones, and you might get more money that way.

great answer . I will let you all know how I do . Thanks again for all the help.
Whenever I do a yard sale, I do so with the idea to thin down my household junk (and the money is just an extra incentive), so I will price things to sell as I feel that any money I get out of it is more than I would have had keeping the junk in my house.
I have one huge rule: If it goes outside to sell then it never comes back in. What remainder I do not sell, I send to the local charities in town. PERIOD.
So I guess what I would do is price them to sell if it's the space you want. If you're trying to gain extra money, then Ebay might be the better way to go.
I believe that in yard sales your items need to be priced to sell or you're going to be holding onto them for another year.
I agree - if the goal is to get them outta your house, then price them between 50 cents and $1. They will go to good homes *and* you will get some money out of the exchange.
That's how I look at yard sales!
Eileen
PS - this is the *perfect* place to post questions like these. The whole PassPorter Villa section is for stuff that is about our general lives and does not have to be related to Disney in any way.
