As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The brand spankin' new limited edition Nintendo DS I got for my son was stolen right off my desk today, and I am just literally sick over it.
It's kind of a weird situation... There are only three of us where I work, at a small family-owned HVAC business -- the owner, our service tech, and myself (office manager,) plus a sometimes-works salesperson. We are out in the sticks, on a country road, on a bunch of acres, with no in-office business.
We have had a heck of a time finding a decent salesperson... and this one has been the worst so far. Part of my job is making sure he does his job, and from the get-go he has refused to do so. He has refused to even talk to me, after the last time I told him that he needed to do his %#$@ job. He was on the way out, as he had sold zilch and the owner was sick of his excuses and refusal to even come in to the office.
He came in today after the owner told him that he absolutely had to have physical written proposals in-hand for the bids this guy had supposedly done. He came in, not saying a word to me, and I left for lunch at about 1pm. Only the owner and the salesperson were there, and the owner said the sales guy left not too long after that.
I received the DS about a week ago, and had had it on the edge of my desk. It came with Brain Age 2, and I was happily trying to stave off Alzheimer's with it every morning. This morning it had sat there untouched so far, because I had been busy. I got back from lunch, and it was gone. I immediately looked everywhere around my desk, thinking maybe it had fallen somehow, but it was nowhere. The DS manual, open and facing down under the DS in it's case, was missing too. But the box, the outer box, the big accessory pack, and every single other thing in the office was there -- except for an ionic fan, the last personal effect the salesperson had at the office.
I know it was spite. The owner immediately called him, and he denied knowing anything about it, but the DS didn't walk away by itself and no one else was there. His office is 2 feet from mine, and both are one foot from the door. It would have been nothing for him to pocket it and waltz right out.
I called the Sheriff's Department, and they sent the nicest officer out, who took my statement and spoke with the owner and I. He said that they will try and get a sworn statement out of the guy, and they use polygraph for that. I'm not holding my breath, though.
I'm really sorry this is so long... I know the DS is just a thing, but this was my son's whole Christmas aside from another game I was going to get him. I had saved for months to order it. Yeah, we are booked on the Magic again in February, but you have to understand that we willingly sacrifice a LOT for our trips... they are the most important things to us both, and he and I eat a lot of cereal for dinner and do without a lot of other things to go on our trips. This DS bundle was a big expenditure for me, but he has wanted it for so long and I wanted to surprise him with it.
I guess I have had 40 very naive years, because this has just dealt me a big reality check, and it makes me ill. I shouldn't have left it there, but again we're in the middle of nowhere and we're pretty much family. I'm a big believer in karma, and I know he'll get his, but that won't save Christmas. And folks wonder why I love animals so much more than people?
I just had to vent... I'm sorry this got so long.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope they somehow are able to pin it on that guy (or whoever else might have done it!) for you and your DS. Keep us posted on whether the Grinch is caught or not.

I am so sorry that some heathen stole a gift for your DS. I walk in your shoes everyday-when I was a starving nursing student I always made sure my kids ate dinner and if there wasn't enough left for me I went hungry. It's the things we do for our kids.
I need new shoes but am instead scrimping for OUR trip.
Please know I'm praying for you and your situation and hopefully KARMA will come around......and you'll get the DS back!! Shame on ANYONE who has to steal from kids!!

Thanks for the kind thoughts, you guys.. I really appreciate it. At least I have a bit of time between now and Christmas to try and save up again, or come up with a Plan B. If anything, I'm glad it happened to me and not to DS himself. I'd rather he have at least a few more years of trusting humanity!
Thanks again, bunches.

I've done the scrambled eggs and rice for dinner....for a long time. I know how good it feels when you finally get that gift that you know is going to make them smile...
So sorry and here are some pixies....hope something comes out fo the statement and they can get it back for you...
I am so sorry that happened!!! Yes, I hope fate/karma steps in and you get it back. I hope the BIG JERK gets his too!! How dare he steal from a child. I would talk outload about it when he's around, if the cops say it's ok. Try to make him have one shread of guilt. What a jerk. I wish I had money to send to you to buy another, but we too know how it is to save for Disney trips. We have a lot of cereal and grilled cheese too!!
Gina, I'm so sorry! Is there any possibility of it being insured? Possibly thru your credit card or the company? Probably not worth filing a claim... Aaaargh; who ever did that will get theirs in the end... butthead!
