Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

O\'hana\'s or Bomas??

We have PS for O'hana's on 11/27. We haven't been to either one, so maybe we should try them both. If you had to choose, which one would you pick and why?

Only 27 more days till the Magic.

Debo2 -

I'm in the same boat as you. We leave in 12 days, and have made PS's for both 'Ohana & Boma. I have not been to either restaurant, and would love to try both. Since we are staying at the Poly, keeping our 'Ohana PS will be no problem. As long as my plans don't run too far off course, we hope to do Boma, too.

Re: O\'hana\'s or Bomas??

We've just gotten back from our Disney trip, and we ate at both....it's hard to compare the 2 meals....

Ohana has more "happening". If you have children, then will enjoy the hulahoop contest and the coconut rolling contest. There is also a man (who's been there for 100 years!! that sings and plays the ukelali. As for the meal, I would say that the food is more "normal" food. It is served family style. All the the grilled meats are deliciously prepared...their tastes are not extremely unusual. The meal is great!

As for Boma, if you are interested in giving your taste buds a great adventure, then you will love this! Just about everything they serve is "different". Their salmon is encrusted with nuts, the fruit is doused with port wine...I took a tiny bit of just about everything they had and it was fantastic! The buffet is huge; the variety of foods is endless! If you are a "meat and potatoes" kind of person, then I would say this place is NOT for you. There is no entertainment in this restaurant.

My advice is to make sure you can sneak both into your plans!

Thanks for the advice. We're going to keep our PS at O'hana's and if I can talk DH into it, we'll do Boma's too.

Does Boma require priority seating?

I was really considering going there and checking out the hotel and having a meal there. A friend of mine loves Boma and highly reccomends it.

Re: O\'hana\'s or Bomas??

Heather, I would definitely make PS for Boma. We arrived at dinner time with PS and had to wait about 15. Others asking for walk-up seating at that time were told to come back much later in the evening.

I am with those that say to try both. Each is a delicious, unique experience!

We've been to both. Both were really good but if I had to pick one, I'd pick 'Ohanas. I'd still try and get to Boma's though because their Zebra Domes are to die for

We thouroghly enjoyed both. There is more going on for the kids at 'Ohana, but I enjoyed the food at Boma more. Try and do both if you can!

Re: O\'hana\'s or Bomas??

My wife and I would have to vote for Boma! We ate at O'hana last year and Boma this past Sept. O'hana, as many have mentioned, has more for the kids to do, so weigh that in if you have little ones. However, food-wise I think Boma wins hands down. I have to disagree with a previous post that it is all exotic. There's plenty of standard fare, excellent egg dishes, french toast, etc., but you also have some selections with an African flair that I think the vast majority of people would love. The overall selection there is much larger than at O'hana and although the kids' activities are not as plentiful, the atmosphere is just beautiful! You can't go wrong either way though!

Re: O\'hana\'s or Bomas??

I appreciate all the advice I rec'd. We decided to go with Ohana's. I think it will be a pleasant surprise for DD (13) and DS (8). Actually, it will be a nice surprise for us too seeing we haven't been. I'm SO looking forward to this experience. When we were there in March we didn't do any "Disney Dining". This time we have a PS at H&W for a character breakfast and one at Ohana's. Can't Wait! Only 12 more days till our Magic begins!!!

Re: O\'hana\'s or Bomas??

We just returned and ate at O'Hana's and LOVED it!. We did not try Boma's, so I can't comment there. What I would like to comment on, however, is the problem with transportation after the meal. We had PS at 7 p.m. We went from the MK directly to O'Hana's, which I thought was good planning. The problem being after the meal. We were staying at the Dolphin, and in order to get back to the hotel, we had to take a bus to Downtown Disney, then wait for a different bus to take us back to the Dolphin. This is a little inconvenient. The same thing happened to us last spring after we at at Wilderness Lodge. We were staying at the Contemporary, and thought we could take the boat back, however, there was a severe thunderstorm and we couldn't stand out on the dock waiting for the boat, so again, we had to take a bus to Downtown Disney, then back to the Contemporary. Please keep that in mind if you have little ones who will be very tired. We don't rent a car, so Disney transportation was our only option. I didn't want to pay for a taxi. This is my ONLY problem with dinner at a resort that you are not staying at. I suppose if you make the dinner reservation early enough that you can take transportation back to the park, then it wouldn't be bad, but after a full day at the park, then eating a big meal, being tired, then having to run around with the buses, that kind of put a damper on things. Just something else to keep in mind.
You will love O'Hana's, I promise!
