Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

sports in general

I thouht it might be neat to see which sports each of us participated in &/or what sports our SO's & children participate in..

Me: ( Very short list): softball.. 12YO & 13YO champions.. with absolutely NO help from me!! I was probably one of the worst players on the team but we still had tons of fun! I did play tennis a lot for fun but not competitively.
I'm VERY athletically challenged which is a bit disheartening coming from having a brother who excelled in sports.. he was QB of the football team, a record breaking basketball player in high school and college (was drafted by the 76'ers) & shortstop of his baseball team.. while I can barely dribble a basketball.

DH, Jim played baseball in little league, hated it & asked to be scorekeeper.. to this day he does not like to watch little league ball.. but LOVES to coach it.
He also wrestled & played football.

DS Jamie has played baseball since he was 5 & only quit last year due to finding a new love... cross country & track.. He also plays basketball.. but his favorite is cross country out of them all.

DS, Brendan has also played baseball since he was 5 & that is his main love.. he also runs track & cross country & has played basektball (I'm sure you all remember me bragging on his undefeated championship season a few years back)

DD Shelby has played both softball & basketball but took a year off last year to just relax.. she insists she's going to play basketball again this year.

DS

I had a lung disease and spent a great deal of my childhood in bed. I wasn't even allowed outdoors at recess, so sports were out when I was a kid. My family was NOT into sports at ALL, we were musicians. I was a cheerleader in Jr Hi and in high school, I learned how to ice skate (speed/power, not figure). I kept up with that until I got pregnant w/ DD1.

DH ran the chains for high school football

DDs are dancers and 11yo ice skates. They've both played soccer before, but just aren't all that interested in it.

7th grade Basketball. I was really bad and probably played a total of 20 minutes all season.
7th and 8th grade soccer.
High school track and field.

DS is now old enough to play T-Ball and Soccer which he is enjoying. He asked me about basketball and I had to shoot (no pun intended) that idea down because they don't have pee-wee basketball around here.

I was a runner all through High School and College. In High School I participated in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track. My "big event" was the 880 (half mile) in outdoor track and the 1000 meter run in Indoor Track and two relays in indoor and outdoor track. I tried tennis, but was a much better runner! In college, I participated in Cross Country and Spring Track. I also sailed when I was younger and participated in many regattas.

Me: I played little league baseball in 4th and 5th grades, softball in 6th. Field hockey in Junior High. In high school, I didn't do any sports (although I should have). Did cheerleading instead! In college I was a coxswain for the crew team for a couple years, and played lacross (club level) my last year. I've been playing softball in a women's rec league for the last 16 years every summer

DH: He played tennis in high school, not competitively in college, and then was in a league before we had kids. Played some recreational softball thru work as well.

DD (8): She took tennis lessons all last year (and it starts up again this week). She's played soccer every fall (this is her 4th year), and started playing softball this spring (which is her favorite).

DS (5): He played tee-ball this spring, and is playing soccer right now. I'm sure we'll continue with tee-ball next spring as well

Me: I played softball, I guess beginning at age 5 or 6, and I loved it! I was really good and was the pitcher but I could play any spot and did. I quit when I was in high school. (wish I had not) I did not play for awhile until I played for dh's work team. I have not played since I had my dd 5 years ago. Softball is the only team sport I ever played. I was a cheerleader when I was small. I ran for a very short while and I am thinking of doing that again as I am in need of something to get back in shape.

Dh: Played baseball and soccer. He was best a baseball. He loves to play softball, Ultimate Frisbee, and running. (he is my inspiration for running)

DD1 - age 5: Currently, is playing soccer. I am not sure how much she likes it. She seems to want to play on the playground more than she wants to play soccer. She
is a pretty good soccer player though, when she plays.

DD2 - age 3: Also, is playing soccer and seems to really like it! She is very gifted physically - very coordinated.

DS age 9 months: Is currently, crawling and winning the race "to get what I should not have" matches with mommy and daddy. He is very fast!

I do not look very athletic right now but I hope that changes in the coming months.

I was useless at sport at school and really hated it. I did do OK at tennis and athletics - I got a really quick time at the 400 metres, but the school never really pursued either with me. They preferred hockey, football and netball, which I hated. Today I swim three times a week and walk and that's the extent of my sporting activity.

From age 3 until about 13 I ice skated. We did a skating show every year. I wasn't that good but I almost always got a "solo" part that didn't require much skill!

Softball from 10 through high school. Again I wasn't that good but it was fun!

Basketball my sophomore and junior year in high school.

Swimming for 2 years in college...we had so much fun!

Horseback riding from age 10 until a few years ago. I had to give it up after inner/middle ear surgery messed up my balance control. I was pretty good too. I rode English hunt seat and was jumping about 3 1/2 feet when I had to give up riding.

In my family, it seemed as if you either got the music gene or the sports gene - never both! I definitely did not get the music gene, so sports it was.

I've played softball forever - started with T-ball, then on to softball, which I played from age 6 all the way though high school, then played club ball in college, and now play rec ball and help coach a girls' team. It's my greatest love. As for tennis, I started taking lessons in 8th grade, and played on my high school's team all four years (our team was 1-A state champs my junior and senior year!) and I still play sometimes with friends. I ran cross-country in high school, too --- I had never run competitively until my first race my freshman year and I was scared to death! The only reason the coach approached me about running was because he got a list of the best times on the required "mile-run" from my 8th grade PE teacher. While I was never the top runner (with these short little legs? ), I was usually in the top 5, and I ended up LOVING it. I wish I still ran more! I did a couple of years of gymnastics in grade school, and started cheerleading in middle school and continued it through high school - I blame my weak ankles on it and haven't looked a pair of pom-poms since.

As for "not competitively" - I love to swim and play touch-football (I did play on the powderpuff team every year for homecoming). I always wanted to play basketball, but I STINK with a capital S.

No hubby or kids to brag about --- but I hope if I do have kids, they'll love sports as much as I do!

I was awful at basketball and we didn't have much else in my tiny town so that was that!
My DH on the other had played pretty much every thing. My 3 oldest boys all play football, baseball and wrestle for the schools. I live vicariously through them!

Me: I played softball from the ages of 12-19

DH: He thinks playing the drums is a sport

DS: played baseball (6 years), soccer (7 years) and basketball (8 years) starting at the age of 4 or 5....he slowly dropped out of those as his schedule was just too crazy. The one sport that has remained a constant is karate. He started at the age of 6 and received his junior black belt 2 years ago this coming weekend, right around his 13th birthday

I didn't play a single sport aside from the occasional kickball game on the playground in elementary school . . . in junior high, my sport was boy chasing.

I played softball in high school and then off and on since then. I played in an all women's league in Maine and LOVED it (but that's when I figured out I had a weak knee and running was going to be an issue --- does that mean I am getting old? ) but wasn't able to find a league when I lived in FL that "agreed" with me and I haven't been able to find a league here yet. I also like to kick the soccer ball . . . I can't play the game to save my life and don't know all the positions and rules, but I like to kick the ball.

DH was a soccer player when he was really young and played some pick up games as he got older. He also played basketball when he was in elementary school. And flag football when we were stationed in Maine.

DD has played tee-ball and soccer since she was 4. She's also did cheerleading during one Navy youth basketball season. She didn't have enough rhythm at age 5 to do that stuff. Now she's in a bowling league. She is my little tomboy.
