As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi!
My family and I will be heading to Walt Disney World in mid August. We are staying at the CSR and I'm looking forward to the stay. I was wondering about room requests. My travel agent had mentioned things like garden view, parking lot, and wooded view, I think (when we booked they no longer had a water view). I think when putting down a request the TA put down a garden view as a preferred. My dh and I would like to be close to the dig site (large pool) and around bus stop 2. I believe this would put us around the Ranchos Buildings. I have noticed on several different websites that people have recommended Ranchos Building 7A. What do those of you who have stayed at CSR recommend and how should we go about letting the hotel know what we are interested in. We are planning to come back to the room mid-day most days because we will be traveling with a 6 and 4 year old (naps and a pool break). All our ADRs have been made at the parks or other hotels, so being close to the main building is not a priority for us.

Do you mean you would like to be near bus stop #3? Bus stop #2 is by the Casitas.
By looking at the map, it appears that building Cabana 8A is closest to the Dig Site. That is also super close to bus stop #4.
When we stayed there last August, we stayed in Cabana 9B. It was close to El Centro & Pepper Market and just a bridge away from the Dig Site. It was also close to bus stop #1, which was great when going to the parks as it is the last stop to be picked up except for the DTD run, I think. We didn't mind being dropped off last - don't know if that would be an issue with little ones. We never had to stand - I think because it is a convention resort and many guests were attending their conventions.
I guess which building you choose would be based on your needs as a family. I hope you enjoy your stay at CSR! We were hesistant about staying there, but we were pleasantly surprised and our stay!!
I am wondering the same thing! We have booked our stay from Sept 21st - 29th at CSR. We are bringing our 4 1/2-year-old and 2-year-old. Mine will also need a mid-day nap as well as some respite in the pool!
Why did you request a water view? Does that request put you somewhere specific in terms of a building? How early can you know what building and room you will be staying in? I've seen "room assignor" but who is that?( we did get a water view room btw).
Hope you don't mind me attaching to your post....I have the same questions!

Deb,
I don't mind at all! Honestly, I feel like I have no idea what I am doing. Part of me feels like I should just leave it up to fate and hope for the best, but the other part of me wants to try to get the best room for us (i.e., pool proximity, bus stop). Everyone on these boards have been so helpful, so I know that it will all work out somehow.
We will be at CSR in Dec. and we are leaving it up to fate. Of course, we don't have any little ones to worry about, we have no walking issues (knock on wood) and our boys are all 6"5"" tall. Our 2 year old granddaughter mught come for a day but not spend the night. We'll see her more the end of the trip. Having said all that I think the Rancheros caught my eye right away. But we're easy. Bigred
We will also be staying at the CSR in mid August. You usually indicate room
preferences when reservation are made. The bare basic is a room with a view of the parking lots. Pay a little extra, and you get a water view room (as we did). Also, back when we made the plans, I did a bit of research (i.e., looked at a map ), and thought Cabana 9B would be a preferred choice for the reasons mentioned above, although didn't think about the bus angle (added Bonus ). Again, I mentioned this when we originally booked the rooms, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the request will be met.

bus stop two is the best!!! and it was by the Casitas which is where we stayed. It wasn't that far from the dig site or the lobby/pepper market - but far enough from both that the traffic was not bad at all!
we had rooms 3231-3233 (I think I'd have to dig out my info now lol I could be wrong about the rooms) but we were in building... 5 and it was great.
Booking a standard room does not necessarily mean a view of the parking lot, although if you have a car, these rooms are convenient.
We booked a standard room and were in Casitas 3. I only requested we be relatively close to the main building in a relatively well trafficed area as I was travelling alone with my DD. We had a lovely view of a courtyard with a fountain.
The rooms are different prices with standard views being the lowest.
The CSR resort was our first non-deluxe stay and I really enjoyed it and would stay again. Our second try at a moderate was the POFQ, which others love, but I would not do again.
We stayed in 8B Cabanas on a previous trip and we loved it. It was very close to the bus stop and not too far from the Dig Site or El Centro. The bus service here was very good (much better than POR). I think Disney caters to the conventioners. HTH!
