As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We are staying at POP for the first time in August. I have a few questions.
A> Are there hair dryers in the rooms?
B> Are there coffee makers in the rooms?
C> How is the bus service?
Hair dryers are in the room. I think there are coffee makers, but as a non-coffee person, I'm not positive. I think the bus service is very good. Yes, there are more people with POP, but the bus service takes care of that.

I did some searching and read that there wasn't a coffepot in the rooms at Pop. I was interested because I thought about using one to make tea in the am and hot chocolate in the pm. :

No coffee pots in the room.
And let me tell you, as a vetern POP guest (see My Previous Trips, you'll get the idea), if you have your car with you, do yourself a favor and just drive to the parks. Unless it's in the middle of the day, when the busses don't typically have a lot of passengers, it's going to be torturous for you to constantly be waiting in line for busses. Don't get me wrong - their busses run a lot more frequently, it seems, than most of the other resorts. It just doesn't help when there's always an onslaught of people trying to get on.
I know a lot of people may think I'm exaggerating or being a negative nelly, but the reality is, in the 3 years we've stayed at POP, since more and more people have "discovered" it and are picking it over the All Star Resorts, the bus lines have gotten a lot longer.
You're going in August, which is a really busy time. When we went in August last year, it was hot and miserable enough, let alone standing in close proximity with 100 other hot and smelly people trying to squish into the same small location as you.
We are planning to stay at POP for our 1st WDW trip in late Sept. I would appreciate opinions on whether we should consider someplace else that would be less hectic, as far as bus travel goes. I'm hoping that the time frame of late Sep as opposed to mid-summer will make things better. Does it matter which buildings your rooms are in, as to the availability of bus service?

I think if you are going to stay at a Value then Pop would be my first choice. It is large but there is only one bus stop area & Pop does not share with another resort. My experience with the All Stars is sometimes they share busses within the 3 resorts & sometimes they don't. The busses are almost always pretty crowded though no matter what but they do run quite frequently at all 4 values.
ETA - I like the 70's section. It seems close to the Food Court & the bus stop.

We stayed at POP our last time and had good experience all around but we went late April we really didn't wait to long for buses but they DID get crowded. But the resort itself was great. I loved all of the decorations. We stayed in the preferred section which was in the "A" bldg in the 60's section. We have also stayed at All-Sports and also liked it but as posted aboove they share the buses with Music and Movies so they were actually more crowded a lot of families. If you do have a car I would sugest driving unless you are going to MK which the parking lot is a ways away from the park. Have a good trip.
We went last year in September and found that we were rarely on a bus that was crowded. We didn't leave POP until 30 minutes after the rush however. (Late risers you know!) Coming back could be a different story, however, especially around closing time. POP doesn't share buses so that makes the trips seem a little faster than other resorts. If we see you in September, we'll say Hi!

There are hair dryers in the room but it takes forever to dry my hair with them so I bring mine from home. There are coffee makers in the room. I have never had a problem with the bus service at Pop.
Thanks for the great advice. We're doing some serious researching and planning over the next couple of weeks, hoping to book our trip soon (planning to go 9/24-9/29). We have basically decided on Pop, and hadn't heard much negative except for the potential crowded buses. As with any trip, flexibility will be key!

Last time I was at POP, Jan '07, there were no coffee makers. Has this changed?
POP can get crowded, but the bus service is usually pretty good. You'll have a long wait if you head for the buses after fireworks or Fantasmic, but not so bad if you leave at off times.
Nope - as of June 26th - there were no coffeemakers in the rooms. Pop is a value resort - so that means no coffeemaker, no refrigerator, and no towels at the pools. That said, I know that you can pay for a refrigerator, I don't know about the coffeemaker - maybe you can request one.
We had great luck with the Mousekeepers on our Pop trip - we had two rooms for 7 people - and our first night - I called to request some extra towels for morning showers, as the kids had used all the room towels at the pool. Within 15 minutes - they had brought me 12 more towels - 8 in my room, and 4 next door! From that time on - I didn't need to request extra - when the room was made up - there were always plenty of towels for both showers and pool!
We had decent success with the bus at Pop Century - while we were never on an empty bus - there were not long waits - and the one time we didn't get on the first bus - another bus arrived within 5 minutes!
Everything I'm hearing sounds fine to me, we will be leaving for POP in 6 days. Yea! I don't drink coffeee, so if there isn't a pot it is fine. My thick long hair would fried and split if I used a blow drier and then I woundn't be able to harvest it and send it off to Locks of Love, so I don't care if there is a blow drier. (I refer to my hair as my crop because I grow it out for 3 years then chop it and send it, as soon as I cut it this time will be my 3rd time). The bus exhaust makes me car sick or bus sick, so except for the days I want to be at MK for EMH I plan on driving our car. Oops it's a mini van now thanks to my husband saying I'm using that (not really I wanted the Taurus the mini van sucks gas down). But now that I have the van I can take the cooler and load it with ice keep it in the car and save left overs. The shampoo and soaps don't make a difference becasue of my thick "curly" hair I use a product called Nature's Therapy for unruly frizzy hair, just to get a comb through it. The only thing I will really miss staying at POP is the queen size bed because I know my DS2(8) and my DS3(6) wil be in the bed with me and I'm not sure how a double is gowing to work.
