What do you wish you'd taken more pictures of? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

1. WDW food - I love looking at other people's food pics, but I always forget to most of the time I'm there.
2. Entrance/signage to rides/attractions - so I could have more of a story type progression to my pictures.
I am almost afraid to admit it - but the family!! It seems like for every 5 pictures of us, we have 50 of parades, buildings, etc. And DH is never in the pictures, because he is taking them! This year I will be taking FULL advantage of PhotoPass, and buying the disc when we get home (after adding tons of borders, etc).

Definitely pics and video of the kids when they were little. We have tons of footage of rides that are still there but now that they are 18 and 20 I wish we had captured more of them.

I agree 100%!!!!!!!!!!! i have pics of the kids but none of all of us. I plan on buying the disc also, the memories are worth the cost!!!!
I wish I'd taken more pictures of the rides, and all of the buildings and the general decorations at WDW. As I look through other people's photos I see so many neat things that are inside the parks that I must have missed I will be searching for them this time around!
Also more food pictures.

When the kids were younger... I took many pictures of them for sure . but I wished I took more of the look on their face or reaction to the Parades or seeing the characters not just the pic with them. I also videotaped all the parades. One tip I would give that I wish I had done was turn the video camera on to the kids to get their reaction to seeing the Parade. I wished I had done it when all the princesses wished my 16 yr old nephew a Happy Birthday as we watched the Parade. When I saw him bursting with happiness at being recognised by all the pretty girls. I kick myself for not having the video camera for that.

I agree with coffeechef I would like to more expression pictures. We also are planning to get the Disney Pic CD. I take pictures of everyone but not many pictures proving I was on vacation also. lol
As I take so many, I don't think there's anything that I miss now, but in the past (and one of the reasons I did start taking so much photos) was that I'd get home and realise that I had no record of any of our meals or the rides we went on and some of the park shots - particularly MGM - were very limited. Those have been my failings before.
I always wish I had taken more pics of the kids and attractions. For our trip in May, I wanted to make sure I didn't miss a thing, so I took 866 pics with my digital camera. That does not include the 250 we have on our Photopass cd. I took tons of the kids, the attractions, the cabin and FT. Wilderness and parades. I bet I won't take as many in January.
I've taken tons of pics, but wish I had taken the video camera . We really don't use it much for anything and I already look back and wish things were captured on video. I just don't want to lug it all around the parks, yet would love to get things on tape... I did take the boards' advice about capturing the reaction to characters and shows--- I have some great ones like that...

This is always my problem once I get home. I spend alot of time planning out our days to make sure we get to everything we want, We take pictures of what we want at that time, and if we really want to take the picture, its hard something when you have a stroller to push and an older child wanting you in another direction. I already wrote some things down in my passporter of what I want pictures of this time. More Charactors, Signs, Rides: I want to bring the camera on TOT....Last year I used my cell phone but it did not turn out that great, so maybe the regular camera will work:if anyone has done that let me know. And I want more pics of the different resorts we visit, and this year our XMas card is going to be me and the kids in front of the castle so I have to make sure to get that one too, and I am bringing an underwater camera for shark reef too

I have the same problem!!! since i am the "designated" photographer/scrapbooker, i wind up with hundreds of photos of.....My Sister on Vacation!!! The simple answer seems to be to take more than one camera (i.e. each adult has his/her own camera). That way, you would be in the pictures ur husband takes and vice-versa. Also -- it gives u a different perspective on things. You'll have pictures of things that caught his eye, things that caught your eye, etc.
If you're using digital cameras, u can upload everything to the same folder (i.e. by day). It won't matter who took which pictures.... you'll just have a great selection to choose from! A similar option (depending on how old ur kids are) would be to give each of them a disposable camera to use on your trip. Again, completely different perspective, plus u have pictures taken by your kids!
Also, the thing i always take pictures of is external lighting fixtures. WDW has a plethora of unique "street lights". It's amazing how they change from area to area, yet they all blend in so perfectly you never notice how they change.

I agree about the reaction photos. I didn't think to get these of the girls and have only the photo of Anya meeting Snow White that the photo pass photographer got. It still brings me to the verge of tears just telling you all about it. I also plan to get more photos of the outside and pre-ride of rides. As was said before, it will make for a more interesting story line.
