Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

From Allearsnet:

EDITOR'S NOTE: Also remember that you can copy your photos from your camera memory card to CD at any of the theme park's camera centers. It costs about $12 plus tax.

you could also look into getting a couple of extra memory cards/sticks for your camera...

depending on how long you'll be there and how many photos you might take that or the CD at Disney would work (personally you can never have too many memory cards for the camera)

Dh and I decided on our 2005 trip to purchase a 1GB memory card (which we got for just under $100) and try to fill it up! Every night when we had a chance we would go through the pics on the camera and delete any that we didn't like or were really bad.

Once we got home, we had plenty of memory left and I had a TON of pics. to develope.

If you are also using the photo pass and get a larger memory card, I would think you would be ok. Once we purchased the 1GB card, we sold the smaller cards on E-bay and made a little extra cash. We had 4 smaller cards that we sold.

If you keep your eyes open, you can find memory cards for pretty cheap.

Another vote for memory cards. Watch the Sunday ads and you will probably be able to pick one up for a decent price.

I'd go for the extra memory cards and transfer the images to CD if you happen to fill all of the cards up.

figuring it out!

Try a search engine for the type and size of card you are looking for. I recently picked up a 2gb card for about $20.

I picked up a second 1 GB memory card at Staples last week for just under $20. With the two 1 GB cards I have about 1200 photos available to me. However, they also had a tower available, semi small that was 40 GB and you could download your memory cards to that each night, it was around $100. I almost bought it, but in the end I decided the cards should be enough. But, if you want tons of pictures that might be the way to go.

In the current I-Pod craze, if you own one of those that has a larger hard drive, you could get an adapter and download those photos you want to keep to it when the card gets full.

An extra card is a must on all digital cameras, if for no other reason than to have a spare in case something happens to the one you already have. Being a computer-like device, it doesn't take much for something to go wrong....

We have a huge memory card for our digital, but I still take the regular camera because I like the quality of the regular pictures better for scrapbooking.

Like any other question, this one has multiple answers, and you must search through to find the one that fits your personality and touring habits best.

My personal solution is this:

I have multiple memory cards, each enough to take at least one full day of average shooting. I carry a spare with me every day, since they are small and light.

I have a laptop and download my pics from the memory cards each evening.

If I did not have a laptop, my memory cards total about 4-6 days of average shooting. Once the cards were half full (every 2-3 days), I would have them downloaded to CD, which can be done at any of the 4 camera stores in the theme parks, or at the Kodak Imageworks in Epcot. However, I always have a car at WDW, so I would go off-site instead and download my pics to CD at one of the local Walgreens stores, which have 24-hour photo centers. Prices at WDW are $12.99 per CD, but Walgreens only charges $3.99 per CD.

The most important piece of advice I can give to anyone is never to put all your eggs in one basket - split up your pics on multiple memory cards, CD, whatever, so that if one piece of media is lost, stolen, or damaged, you will not lose all of your pics in one shot.

My 512 mg card held over 400 pics last Disney trip with space still left. I have my camera on the highest quality setting and it's a 5mp. I was amazed at how many pics it held.

And that can be a horrible trap.

It sounds to me like you had all the pics from your whole trip on that one memory card. But ask yourself this - what would have happened if the card went bad? If the camera was lost, stolen, or dropped into the water at POTC? If someone in your party accidentally hit "Delete All" instead of just "Delete"? You would have lost ALL the pics from that trip!

That's why I always recommend having several smaler memory cards instead of one huge memory card; by splitting up your pics, you are less likely to lose them all in one shot if something goes wrong.

My preference is to never have more than one day worth of pics on any one memory card; this is easy for me, since I have a laptop with me at WDW and download my pics to the hard drive each day, so I only need a few memory cards. But even if you don't have a laptop, you can still buy enough 512mb or 1gb memory cards for each day of your trip.

I once had someone argue with me vehemently that my strategy was dumb because all of the full memory cards would still be in your camera bag, which is just as likely to get lost or stolen or fall off the boat into the Seven Seas Lagoon as the camera itself. My reply to that, of course, was simple - leave the full memory cards in the hotel room safe, same as you do with extra cash, travel documents, or credit cards that you won't be needing on the trip.

It's also a good idea to back up your pics on CD, which can easily be done at any of the theme parks, or at one of the off-site Walgreens or WalMart stores in the WDW area. This gives you an extra layer of protection in case your camera bag gets stolen or lost during the trip home.

I am bringing my digital for the first time this time as well, and we will have a laptop with us also. I am excited to download them right away.

However, if you do use regular film, and you have a car while you are there- you can always do 1 hour developing while you are there at Walgreens or Wal-Mart. We did this and had all our pictures to look at right away on the way home. We stayed off site at a condo with my parents. There was a wal-greens right across from the entrance to the resort and we dropped of the film on our way back each night and went back for them 1 hour later. It was great!
