Why do people do this? minor rant many can relate to - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Why do people do this? minor rant many can relate to
Why do people feel the need to tell you all of the negative bad things related to something you are experiencing???
My main example being Jamie's broken ankle.. Jim & I both ( & Jamie to a smaller degree) have endured numerous people tell us horror stories of their own, their kids, uncles, grandmothers, fourth cousin twice removed bad experience after a broken ankle & how they were never the same.. If I hear one more person say "He'll never play sports again" I am going to SCREAM!!! The ortho doctor never said anything about long term problems other than if Jamie doesn't follow his instructions, surgery MIGHT be an option & that was very remote.. Jamie is young & the break is his growth plate so it should heal nicely!
Jamie was sooo bummed last night.. his basketball team played in the championship game on Monday night & won & while Jamie still sat on the bench & got a trophy AND his coach made a point to praise him & tell him he was a part of getting them TO the championship game , Jamie was still bummed to not be a part of it ( & having a so called 'good'friend mock you & tell you, you weren't part of the championship game didn't help ~ that's a whole other rant in itself) and yesterday was a track meet & while the coaches have asked Jamie to help manage the team, he wants to be involved!! Then to hear the horror stories made him more depressed.. Jamie is a very easy going kid & takes life in stride but this injury has really devastated him!
It has always irritated me when people are dying to tell you their horror stories especially LABOR stories.. I remember hearing the most frightening stories when I was pregnant with my first. (Rachel, I bet you can concur!!) I tell anyone pregnant that all people are different & to not worry.. Heck, I gave birth to an 8 lb 15 oz baby & it was easy as pie. ( that's MY standard birth story for pregnant women.. that & 'laughing' Shelby out!!)
sorry for the rant but I'm sure most of you can attest to having been in this situation!!!
I am so sorry you have to deal with insensitive people. I can't believe people are saying he will NEVER PLAY SPORTS! I am sorry are they doctors? How do they know? That is just mean.
BTW...a break is better then a sprain...and with either you can still play sports!
I am glad his coach made a point in telling Jamie that he was part of the team. I think people concentrate too much on the LAST game. There is a whole lot of winning before that last game...that counts too!
for your family and that Jamie recovers and is ready for the next sports season!

I'm sure Jamie will heal and be fine. My late DH broke his ankle and foot and he was fine after it healed. It never bother hime again. (I thought you'd like a good story for a change.) some people just have to tell everyone that what ever happen to them was worse than anything that could ever happen to you. I work with several of these people. They have such negative attitudes about everything that I try not to talk to them too often. It was really nice for you DS's coach to make sure that he felt that he was still part of the team even though he couldn't play the last game.

Ann, those labor horror stories are one of the reasons I go out of my way to tell other women my story. Mine was great and I think too many moms only hear the bad things.
As far as Jamie's break, he has my sympathies. I broke my foot last year and it was such a small break, they didn't find it on an x-ray for weeks. My foot is only now starting to feel normal again. He'll be able to play, but I'd be surprised if he was playing at 100%. An ankle/foot break is different from other breaks because you put so much pressure on your feet every day. Physical therapy will get him back on his feet and feeling fine when he's able. (It did wonders for me.) I don't think people are trying to scare you with such horror stories, but maybe just prepare you for the fact that a foot break does not heal the same way as any other kind of break. Jamie is going to need a ton of patience!
He is young and in good shape. There isn't any reason he won't heal quickly and completely. Children (and teens) heal so fast it's unbelievable. Tell him to ignore everyone. I have no horrible bone break stories. dd broke her hand in Sept & only missed 2 weekends of hockey games. She is fine now and no one would know she broke a bone a little over 6 months ago. I hope Jaimies mood improves.
Ann-
When my DD broke her arm, the doctors were concerned about it possibly being in the growth plate and it stunting the growth of that bone. It surprised me to hear that it was good news that Jamie broke his bone in the growth plate. ?
I'm awfully sorry that people are being so insensitive to you and your family. People should think before they speak. Pixies to you guys! I hope he heals up well and becomes a major sports star in high school!
Why do people like to share their misery??? I broke my ankle several years ago, bad enough that the orthoped told me another injury and I will most likely need surgery. I do yoga regularly, hike and rock climb. I wear an ankle brace for protection but I have never let it stop me from working out and having fun. Jaime will do fine and should be able to play whatever sports he wants to! There is so much protective gear around, it won't be a problem.

Ugh! Aren't those "stories" the worst?! Tell Jamie to keep his head up and listen to what his doctors say, not anyone else. Every case is different, and I'm sure he'll do just fine.
For a positive story, I broke my wrist and recovered well enough to play four sports in high school. Teens heal quickly!
I love when people give you unsolicted medical opinion that they're not entitled to give. As far as labor stories go, I'm getting a little fed up with unsolicited advice in general and can only imagine it'll get worse after May---it just irks me when people address me like an unwed teenage drug-addicted mother.
