Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm​. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Disneyland Dining Review#4 Blue Bayou

Our delicious lunch at the Blue Bayou.

Cast of Characters:
Me, Cheryl, and Jenny just like the last meal!


This is a must do for me every trip. I was most excited about sharing this special place with Cheryl, and Jenny had never eaten there in all her trips to the park! In fact we used to fantasize about it as kids. Will we ever be rich enough to eat in there….?[img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img]

We checked in a few minutes early for our 11:30 PS time, and let the hostess know we’d be willing to wait for water-side seating. We found a spot to stand in the waiting area and a few short minutes later my name was called by a most handsome host.[img]/ubb/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] He escorted us to a table right on the water (and carried on quite the conversation with me, he was so friendly, umm…anywho, back to lunch…). We were seated and handed our menus. Drink orders were taken (Diet Cokes for everyone).

The menu had changed slightly since I was here last, so it took me a while to decide. I thought about the Monte Cristo, but I was more in the mood for Prime Rib. Then I noticed the Seared Pork Chop. It sounded delightful. So that’s what I ordered with the salad. Vegetarian Gumbo was also a choice. I’ve had it before and it’s very good, but I was in a salad mood today. Cheryl ordered the exact meal as I did and Jenny chose the Monte Cristo with salad.

Warm sourdough rolls were brought around to take the hunger edge off, and the salads arrived shortly. The salad was a simple wedge of iceberg lettuce topped with crumbled bleu cheese and a vinaigrette. It was wonderful. After those plates were cleared away our entrees were brought out. They looked lovely (I should have taken pictures.) and tasted even better. The pork chop was thick and tender, seasoned perfectly. I’ve never had any pork chop that tasted like that before. It was served with the signature potatoes au gratin [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/yuma.gif[/img] and steamed asparagus and broccoli. I ate every bit. (I may have actually licked the plate.[img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img])

Jenny found her Monte Cristo much larger and more delicious than she imagined. She was envisioning a grilled cheese type creation. Her’s was also served with the potatoes. We were stuffed but were compelled to try dessert after we saw the Cookie Boat delivered to another table. It was a chocolate chip cookie baked in the shape of a boat (more like a bar cookie really) topped with a scoop of ice cream, hot fudge and caramel sauce, and the best part, an edible mast and pirate sail. We didn’t eat these edible ship parts. I packed them up and brought them home were they’re still sitting on my kitchen counter…The waiter suggested that we not eat that part, that it doesn’t taste very good.[img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img] He also had us keep our menus as a souvenir! With our bill we were served a handful of gold dubloons...which are still on my counter as well. I can't bring myself to eat them! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

All in all, this was the best meal of our trip, our service was excellent, our meal was perfect, and I can’t wait to go back in March! The food had really improved (not that I ever thought it was bad) since our last visit, and it was every bit the exceptional Disney experience that I’d hoped for. Ten out of ten for Blue Bayou.

Next up...a nice home-cooked meal at the Plaza on Main Street.

I never got to go to Blue Bayou until I was "older"... like 20 or so... grew up in SoCal, so was a frequent visitor, but didn't go until my then boyfriend, now husband, took me.

I'm SO glad to hear it hasn't changed... although it seems to have improved!

Thank you SO much for bringing back VERY fond memories!

The Blue Bayou is one of our faves, also, though last time we went it was closed for the Pirates refurb Lunch is definitely the way to go -- almost exactly the same menu as dinner but the entrees are like $10 cheaper. And since it's all indoors, the "nighttime in the bayou" ambiance is the same, even in the middle of the day. Lots of fun! We love the Monte Cristo sandwich (even though I was dubious about the traditional side of blackberry jam, it was delicious with it), but find it's just too rich for one of us to finish in one sitting. So DH and I usually order one Monte Cristo, and an order of something else, and split them both.

The prices on the menu have changed as well. Lunch and dinner entrees were the same prices for the same menu items. There were a few menu item differences between the meals, but otherwise the prices were the same this trip. They served soup or salad with each entree at lunch this time, and that was new as well. Soup and salad were included with dinner previously.

Aw, that's crummy...because I'm SURE that the dinner prices didn't go down...the lunch prices must have gone up! That used to be one of our favorite budget tricks at DL...oh well At least with soup or salad included at lunch, you are getting a *little* bit more with for your money.

Does anyone here remember the Tahitian Terrace? My dad took me there a few times when I was really little. I just found an old menu for them at Yesterland. The Polynesian Combination Platter -- " Barbecued Ribs - Crisp Fried Shrimp Tempura - Chicken Almond - with Polynesian vegetables, Cantonese rice" -- was 1.85!!!

We have a tentative trip to DL planned for next February. I know I'll be fine with the menu, but how would my picky eaters, DH & DS, fare at Blue Bayou?? I've looked at the menu posted on allears, but I'm not sure what they would eat. I've thought about booking a PS just for dessert. Anyone else have experience with picky eaters & BB?
