As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
We had out of town guests for a week in November, then I hosted Thanksgiving for 17 people, then we had our cruise. I got home on Saturday, and Sunday was the first time I thought about Christmas shopping. DD13 wants a Nintendo DS Lite in pink. I go on-line at Target. No internet sales. Send DH to Circuit City because Sunday's ad says they have them. None there. None in any CC store in Western New York. Go to Circuit City's on-line site. Out of stock! Go to Nintendo.com. They have a list of stores. Go to Best Buy's web site. None in stores around here and none available on line. Now I am seriously starting to panic. This is the only thing she asked for! Another store mentioned on the Nitendo site was Sears. Go to Sears on-line. All stores are out of it except one, and not in pink but white. I'll take white! You fill out a form and then they send you an email to take with you to Sears. The email comes and I rush right over to Sears (although I had a million things to do on Sunday, I could not risk missing that!) Hurray, it really does exist at Sears and I was able to take it home.
Anyone else out there searching for something and having trouble finding it?

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
I've heard that Limited Too has some pink DS lites. Sometimes you can get a 20% off coupon for Limited Too. Also try gamestop. Also, I saw Toys R Us had some, but that was a week or so ago.
I'm trying to find a Nintendo Wii Nunchuck controller.

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
Nope, I won't go to that much trouble for any gift.
Although, I will admit to standing on line on "Black Friday" many years ago - got there at 4AM for the store's opening at 5 or 6, all for a Furby! (didn't get one, they had them "hidden" all through-out the store, and who ever found them got it, but I really didn't care, DDs know that "Santa's Elves don't always make enough of the exact same toys for everyone!"

Luckily no, I was able to get really hard to get items for my DD with little or no trouble. Glad you were able to find what you were looking for though.

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
Not this year - but in years past I have been there, done that! I can remember years ago searching for the green power ranger, then standing in line for 2 hours the day after Thanksgiving at KB Toys to get any Power Ranger! Done the same for Nintendo 64, Game Boys, Ipods, etc. It wouldn't be Christmas without it!
Last year we searched for an Ipod and never found one. This year I bought them way early!

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
I'm hoping this was my last year. I've done it all too from that elusive green ranger to game boys at a great price to finding that x-box at the last minute. This year it switched from that MUST HAVE ITEm to what I consider Great items at UNBELIEVABLE PRICES the morning after Thanksgiving. So, it brought me to Best Buy at midnight in MAINE (COLD) Just to get some awsome deals. So, out with the old must haves and in with the great deals.

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
I'm having that hardest time finding the simplest thing! The American Girl Truly Me shower gel from Bath and Body Works - they never have it!
The pink DS is at Limited Too and if you have Too Bucks or coupons you can use them toward the purchase... Good luck all!

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
Just one time . . .
When DD17 was 5 years old, all she wanted from Santa was the horse for Barbie that walked by itself (I forget the exact name of it . . .) You couldn't find them anywhere! A friend at work had a daughter the same age, and she also wanted one, so we teamed up. We called every relative we knew all over the U.S. Finally, one week before Christmas, her SIL found 2 in the Boston area! We were thrilled, Christmas and Santa were saved, and Hayley and Katie loved those horses.
I can't imagine what we would have done if we didn't find them!

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
I didn't go crazy for a particular gift, but wrapping paper. I know I know...
My Oldest DD was 3. She had the impression that Santa brought gifts in blue shiny paper. Took me forever to find it, but when I did, I got 4 rolls just to make sure I had enough!

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
We had two things
Danny has been looking for a little sheriff car (from Cars) ever since he lost his in Disney. They don't make them anymore. I finally found one on Ebay (and luckily won the auction lol), it arrived last week.
Aidan wanted Optimus Prime (a Transformer). However for Christmas they brought out the 20th anniversary special edition model ($70). It's a little different then the one he wanted (plus $25 more dollars)-- I finally found one on line for him (the regular one) on Target.com. They didn't carry them in the stores anymore though.

Re: Am I the only person going crazy looking for a particular gift?
Cheryl, I really wished you posted this earlier! I had a pink one because all the stores around here were out of the white. My DD9 Alli, wanted white and we ended up with pink (it was all that was left). We could have swapped. We ended up exchaning it for the white a few days ago. I got them at Circuit City. Sorry
