Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Minivan Owners - I need your help

DH and I are looking at minivans and need to get some opinions from owners. We are specifically looking at the Honda, Toyota and the Chrysler. I'm curious if you have one of these and which trim level you have and your opinions on the features and performance and why you chose it over other models.

The features we are most concerned with are a split 3rd row that folds into the floor. Maximum cargo space. 2nd row captains chairs. And I'd like something with AWD if possible. A DVD player is not a big deal since we can add one aftermarket. Also, I am used to leather seats, so that would be nice as well.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I love my Odyssey. It's 3 years old though, so no split seats. I don't think you can go wrong with Honda or Toyota. We just bought our 6th new honda - a CRV for my DH. We love their reliability. We tend to keep our cars a long time - the Civic that we replaced is 9 years old with 160,000 miles on it.

Good luck, and have fun shopping!

I have two Chrysler mini-vans, one is 13 years old and has 160,000+ miles on it, the other is 9 years old and has 68,000+ on it. I love them both. I don't have split seats though.

Toyota Sienna owner here and love it. That split back seat is wonderful. I usually keep the smaller part folded down and the back well is perfect for my groceries, etc. We don't have leather, because I didn't want it, so our package goes with the cloth seats, but it is plenty for me.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I've also been looking at mini-vans and especially the Toyota and Hondas. Until yesterday. I found that the Nissan Quest actually has a lot of things STANDARD that aren't even optional on the others.

Have you tried going to www.MyProductAdvisor.com ? It's pretty easy, and will take you through the whole process of refining what you want.

And, the colors of the Nissan are really cool!

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I don't know what all the options are in the States, but if money was no object, I'd be driving a Honda Odyssey tomorrow!

I know you didn't ask about Pontiac Montana's; that's what I drive and it's pretty nice, although due to the quad captain's seats, it has a nasty little blind spot.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

We own a 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L. We looked at every minivan out there and narrowed it down to the Honda and Toyota. When we were ready to buy, it came down to price. We chose the Odyssey because we got a better deal from Honda. Some of the things that we wanted were dual power sliding doors, split seats that fold into the floor, captains chairs and a DVD player since we tend to drive to WDW (from Wisconsin).

We all love it. We drove to Disney in August and averaged 25 mpg (we have the economy engine which was only available in the EX models). The lazy susan built into the floor is kinda cool too. I have no complaints.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I have a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country. I love it. I had a 2003 Dodge Caravan that I traded in on the new one. I don't have stow and go or split seats. I prefer the bench seats. I love all the hooks on the backs of the seat for attaching grocery bags so things aren't rolling around in the back of the van. I like having the control of being able to open the back windows from the drivers seat. There in a great storage drawer under the front passneger seat that can hold quite a bit. On average I get 23-27 mpg.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I love my honda odyssey. It's four years old, so no split back seat, but I love the deep well for groceries, etc. Consumer Reports always rates the Odyssey and Sienna at the top of the list. My sister has a Sienna and loves it too. I have the lowest level and its been a wonderful car. I'm amazed at the new features included in the cars each year. We had an accord that lasted 10 years and 200,000 miles.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

We have a Honda. I love my Odyssey!!!! We have the split seat, fold down third row, captain chairs on the second row with a seat in the middle that comes forward--it's fantastic for a car seat. We got leather seats, which I now love and the seat warmers are fantastic.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I asked my mechanic about which model he'd recommend when I was getting some stuff done to my Oldsmobile van last week (we'll be in the market for a new van next year). He said to buy the Toyota Sienna.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

We have a Honda Odyssey, a 1999 when they first redesigned them. At that time, they had the most cargo space (you could put a sheet of drywall/plywood in it which was a selling point for DH). Ours has cloth seats, as leather wasn't available then.

I'd highly recommend it. We haven't had any issues with ours, and it now has 115,000 miles on it. If I was to buy another (which we will probably in the next 3 years) it will be another Odyssey!

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

Had a Chrysler minivan (front wheel drive only). I loved it. Never had any problems. I traded it for a Jeep Cherokee because I wanted something with 4 wheel drive.

Re: Minivan Owners - I need your help

I've got a 2002 Honda Odyssey and truly love it. It doesn't have the split back seat, but the back seat does fold down into the rear well. I was looking at the Sienna and the Odyssey at that time - I found the Odyssey had more "standard" options, was less expensive, and more comfortable than the Toyota.
I think they drive like a car, have pretty good gas mileage, and are comfortable.
My sister also has a Honday Odyssey (2005 or 2006) and she too loves it.
Oh, and if my next car is going to be a mini-van, I would buy another Odyssey.
Good luck!
