As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
...we don't agree on the nick-name. And, I prefer it for a boy, but he prefers it for a girl. It's after Leonardo DiCaprio's character in Gangs of New York: Amsterdam.
I love it because I LOVE the movie (and the actor) but for a girl I like the nickname Dammie, but he likes Ammy. He also really likes the city. We went there a few years ago.
Oh well...we'll see how we feel 5.5 months from now. It'll probably just be our 2nd trimester name, I wore out our 1st trimester name (Claudia)---I can't even look at that name without feeling now. I associate it too much with exhaustion and morning sickness.
The middle name for a girl has to be Luisa, after my mother Louise. The boy's name, that's still up in the air. But I think it might be cemented after Jimi Hendrix.
I don't know---I should probably wait until I see the kid. My friend thought she was going to name hers Anna, but once she came out with red hair they went with what they felt was a more Irish name, Riley. My own name was Erin for a few days before it was Rachel.
I'm just terrified of choosing a name that all of a sudden becomes trendy, and DH says that Etheline sounds too much like a fuel product.
How do you choose????

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
That is a unique name. I bet (s)he will be the only one in school! I think Amy is a better nickname.
After my ex-husband were married we thought about having kids so we came up with 4 names (this was in 1994):
Caitlin Ashley (before Caitlin was SUPER popular!)
James Patrick (after his grandfather)
Sarah Elizabeth
Jordan Riley
We had to stick alittle Irish in each one! *LOL*

I can so understand that. We picked Aidan after Aidan Quinn. No one was using that name. People looked at us like we had two heads when we said the name. Our families told us they hated it because it was too ethnic. My Italian grandmother couldn't even pronounce it. I thought she was going to pass out when I said what we were calling him. She literally started saying novenas (prayers) that we would have a girl so we wouldn't use that wacko name. Joe and I loved it. 2 months before Aidan was born, Aidan popped up on Sex and the City. The name gained popularity after that. We watched the show, and I should have picked another name when I saw his character come on-- unfortunately, I lacked the foresight in doing that. 2 or 3 years ago the name was #2 on the top 100-- drives me nuts!! We run into little Aidans EVERYWHERE. Almost always they are younger than our son. I swear no one had that name when we chose it. I remember looking it up on that top 100 when we came up with it, and it didn't even make the list. 2 years later it was #2. I really wanted something different with Smith.
Danny-- I learned from Aidan and didn't pick something too different. I named him after a character in Black Hawk Down that I really admired. I figured Daniel has been around forever. We see alot of Daniel's around, but not enough that there will be five in one class.
By the way, I LOVE Amsterdam! What a great name!!! I think Ammy is a really cool nickname. Really cool. But, I have to agree with Wally-- I like it better for a girl (the nickname that is, I like Amsterdam for either one)

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
We are big with family names. Chet even did a project on it for school. The web it created was VERY interesting. So even though the outside world thinks we have wierd names (ok only for the guys) they aren't to us. Just go with your gut. My only advice is to pick a nickname that is easy to say that that everyone would know when they see it (oh and if it can't be contorted by some cruel children so much the better).

My dad said the name my mom picked for me sounded like a toilet paper brand. She did change her mind when I was born, thank goodness!
My cousins picked a name, Tildon, for their son. They changed the spelling so that he could pick a nick-name that was still close to his name if he didn't like the unusual name.
Be glad you aren't teachers as you pick a name...

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
We wanted names that were not unusual, but pretty, but also had some family/friend reference.
Camille Elaina (since I was not the bio mom, I wasn't around to pick it). Elaina is after her mother's friend Elaine, who is no longer her friend! We talk to Elaine all the time.
Grace Elizabeth - we both had an Aunt Grace and wanted to stick with the E middle names. My Great Aunt Grace loved the color lavender, and always wore a beehive hairdo in the 1960's that was awesome. She liked to dance, and I have visions of her doin the Twist n Shout or something with those pointy spike heeled shoes. With a beverage and a cigarette.
Rachel Ellen - I let Pat pick it because we could not really decide, and Ellen was my grandmother's name. Bridget was being tossed around. I was in labor for only two hours, so that last minute naming discussion didn't happen.

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
You'll just know the right name. The baby may come and you decide that the name you chose doesn't fit.
Also, when choosing a name keep in mind what other children may call it (ie nicknames) and watch what their initials spell!

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
I think I just picked traditional names that sounded good together. Emily Claire (of course, my Aunt Emily was born on May 1st and my Emily was born on May 30th). And my Rachel Marie (Rachel is a great name, and my late grandmothers middle name was Marie).
Now I am not one to critisize any name on any child and this being why:
My cousin's (4) boys are named Ulyssess, Adonis, Orion, and Raidon.. Of course, our Grandpa comes up with his own nicknames, even if the mom doesn't like them
I also know someone who has named their son's Coen and Payton. And my other cousin's wife just had their (3rd) girl and the names are Audrey, Millicent, and Isla (eye-la) Mae.
Again, any name a child is given is a great name.

So true! I had quite a few I couldn't use -- especially Austin! But our DD's name did come from a student (McKenna). We just loved the name and she was a good kid, so no bad associations.

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
Anthony Lee is my grandfather's first name and my DH's middle name
Jeanette Mae is DH's grandmother's first name and his Mom's middle name.
So I guess we stick with family names.

I love Amsterdam Rachel (great city too)! I do like Ami for a nickname though!
Don't put so much pressure on yourself And just choose a name that you both enjoy! I love my name now, because it's somewhat unique and there are few and far between Marnie's out there, but gosh, I got sick of spelling it as a child and always wanted to change it

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
We like to select names that are classic with some familial connection.
Our eldest is Madeline Rose, Rose was my grandmother's name. We call her Maddie or Mads.
Our youngest is Victoria Helen, Helen was DH's grandma's name. We call her Tori or Tor.
Now we are tossing around names again and have come up with Joseph Lane (Joey/Joe) or Jennifer Ainslee (Jennie/Jen). Joseph would be after my dad and Lane is DH's middle name. Jennifer is after my best friend who passed away in September and we just like Ainslee but may change the middle name to Ann since that is my middle name.

Re: Score! We Agree On A Name! But....
Dina posted about Aidan - btw was going to be my dd (4) name if she were a boy. It is still in contention also for our little one coming in less than 2 weeks. I knew no Aidan's when we chose the name 4 years ago now it is popular, I wish it weren't. Anyway, my dd (4) was going to be Ava (which my friend later swiped for her dd) or Avery. Then we saw her and she looked like a Halli. It is pronounced like Halle Berry. There is an older Hallie that attends our church, when I found out I told my dh we were switching churches. Just kidding. I named dd (2) Karis. I heard the name and just loved it. I remember when I was younger there was a football player or sportscaster with the last name Karras. I liked it then too. I knew no Karis's and when I went in to my doctor's office to have my c-section staples removed his nurse said her niece was named Karis! I could not believe it! I like unique names. Growing up, Danielle was a unique name around here, no one could spell it or say it correctly!!! My first name is Lena so my parents were trying for uniqueness. My brothers name is Jonas.
