As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Shipping Charges
I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else, I apologize if I'm duplicating.
I just ordered the new Disney Precious Moments figurines "A World of My Own" and "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from the Art of Disney store at DTD. They have apparently changed the way they ship. It is now based on the amount that is spent. And without getting into too much detail, it left me speechless what they charged me for shipping those 2 items. (I normally would not order through them but the one is a WDW exclusive and our Hallmark that used to carry PM is changing their gift line and will no longer offer them.) The CM went into great detail how the shipping had changed on them and left them scrambling with all of these orders.
Just a heads up if you are shipping from WDW.

Re: Shipping Charges
it's actually been that way for a while, sad to say. they figure it's just easier that way. i think up to $100 is $10, but i'm not sure. someone has posted the rates before though i'm sure.

Re: Shipping Charges
I would not be so shocked if it were only $10. But shipping was 1/3 of the total cost. They are using Airborne with 4-5 day delivery.

Re: Shipping Charges
Zoiks - I thought it was the way Brad described it.
Holy Carp, Batman!! 33% of the total seems ridiculous and an outrageous upcharge. Why in heaven do they need to send it Airborne?!

Re: Shipping Charges
I thought that if you spend like $250 in a store they would ship it home for free. I could be wrong, don't quote on this one, it was word of mouth from someone else.

Re: Shipping Charges
I was just there this weekend and we always used to ship things home. I love the snowglobes which are hard to pack (and you can no longer carry them with you) and it was always just easier. Well let me tell you...I don't think I will ever be shipping again. They changed the policy as of October 1st. It used to be something like $14.95 up to $750 worth of merchandise. Well it is now $26 for $100 dollars of merchandise, $76 for $500 of merchandise etc. (There is pricing in between.) And as we all know things add up quickly in Disney!!! I used to tell everyone just to ship everything home. I can't believe how much the pricing increased!! And this pricing is for domestic ground shipping. It would have been a lot more if I wanted it quicker. I think when they told me the shipping price was the first time I have ever been mad at Disney!!

Re: Shipping Charges
Just a few weeks ago I shipped the Cinderella's castle playset home from Disney World. I think it was Oct. 3rd It cost me $65 for the castle and $14.95 to ship it home to NY via ground UPS. Personally I didn't think that was too bad. Easier than trying to bring that big box back as luggage. The CM did say it was based on total purchase price. So I guess it could get a little ridiculous had I wanted to send more stuff.

Re: Shipping Charges
If it's something that is breakable, I'd still ship it. That way, if it gets broken it's covered by someone else!

Re: Shipping Charges
I just read on AllEarsNet that you can have things shipped from your resort check-in desk at the normal rate for FedEx, UPS, etc. I could be a bit mistaken as to the location, but that's what I just read in this week's newsletter.

Re: Shipping Charges
I purchased a Cinderella Castle play set, a WDW Train set, a Buzz Lightyear space ranger spin gun (looks like the one from the ride), and a My Disney Girl cinderella outfit. With shipping my total was around $200. They charged me $36 for shipping, which I didn't think was to bad considering what it would have taken me to get it home on a plane. We also received it about a week later. The CM told me that they say two weeks, but it gets there earlier.

Re: Shipping Charges
I had items shipped from World of Disney and I couldn't believe the shipping charge. I spent about $350 and it was $76 to ship it UPS ground. I should've just had it sent to my resort. I had a box there to ship other things home in. And when I shipped that box from POP it was only $29. I'm not sure how heavy it was but it was A LOT better than shipping from WOD.
My advice would be that if you are planning on purchasing many items send a box down ahead of time to your resort. Then you can use that box to ship items home in. Some places may be able to give you a box but I would'ne count on it.

Re: Shipping Charges - Want to bring my own UPS label
Here is my question for you -- we have a UPS account at work and I will be shipping a small/med box down to BC for my trip next April. I want to print out a label so I can ship the same box home and just put a few more pounds on the label (we don't buy tons of stuff while at disney I just usually buy one snow globe that isn't that heavy). Will I be able to repack that box, tape it closed, put my UPS label on it and give it to the front desk to give to the next UPS man that comes in?

Re: Shipping Charges - Want to bring my own UPS label
I'm sorry to hear about the large shipping costs from the stores (seems like they've caught up with the rest of the online/catalog shipping world that prices shipping on sales cost instead of size and wieght).
But, I'm also afraid what will happen at the resorts if everyone starts bringing their things to the front desk to ship home. Could start a whole new bunch of problems.
