Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Happy Anniversary....NOT!!!!! Update in Original Post
Okay....this is a bit long, so bear with me....about 2 weeks ago, DH trimmed our hedge. One of the bushes has some teeny little thorns, and we think that one became lodged in the palm of his left hand. He could feel something in there, and tried to get it to come out with drawing salve, but no luck. The site became abcessed, so he tried to lance it with a needle (I know, not a really bright thing to do). Not much came out of the thing, except a tiny bit of clear pinkish liquid. Soooo.....
Yesterday morning when he got up, his hand was swollen....he couldn't bend his fingers enough to make a fist - not nearly ! We had to run a rummage sale for a friend, so DH toughed it out....I didn't know he was having trouble until the evening after we got home. DH wanted to relax a bit, so we watched a DVD, then he decided he wanted to go to the ER to have his hand looked at (when I became aware that there was a problem )....We got there at about 8:45....a resident finally saw him at about 11:30. They put DH on IV antiobiotics, and decided to admit him so that a hand surgeon (specialist) could see him in the morning. This announcement came at 12:30....I came home to get some sleep so that I could continue with the sale this morning (a committment I had to keep....a whole different story). I returned to the hospital at 8 AM....DH was still in the ER waiting for a room, and hadn't seen the surgeon yet. So I left to run the rummage sale by myself for the day. I finally was able to borrow a cell phone from a friend at about 2 this afternoon, because I wanted to see how DH was doing and what his room number was and what the surgeon had said....DH was still in Emergency! And hadn't seen the surgeon yet. I was told that he did have a room, and would be taken there in about 10 minutes, so was able to get the room number and phone # so I could call later when he got settled in. At about 4 I borrowed another cell phone and called DH. He was in his room, but guess what? Right! No sign of the surgeon!. At 5:30, I came home, grabbed some stuff that DH wanted me to bring him, and went up to the hospital....got there a bit after 6....surgeon still hasn't put in an appearance! The nurse told us that they'd been in contact with him on his cell phone, but had a bad connection, and he'd call back when he was in a better area. So after about an hour I left, went to Boston Market for some food (all I'd had all day up to that point was a cup of chili), came home, ate, watched a bit of telly, and got on the computer.....
Oh, and today is our Twelfth Wedding Anniversary......!!!! I guess we'll celebrate when DH gets out of hospital......
Here's hoping that if he needs surgery to find and remove the source of the infection, that it all comes out well (no pun intended....Okay, I just lied ) . At least, it's his left hand, and he's right handed....
Here's the latest - DH just called me (it's Sunday morning). The hand surgeon got there a short time ago, and is now trying to drain the infection from Bob's hand with a syringe/needle....Now, I'm not a doctor, but that was what I thought they'd do in the ER the other night...??? Let's hope that all the nasty stuff is drained outta there without need for further surgery! I'm going up there in a little while to be with him - I guess I'll be there most of the day...
Oh, just to complicate things....DH is borderline diabetic - and his blood sugar was up, over 300, so they've been giving him insulin injections to try to bring it down. He's not a happy camper right now, he hates needles.... It was still around 250 this morning....I'm sure that this means another ordeal of glucose tolerance testing....
***heavy sigh***
Well, the attempt at draining the infection was unsuccessful. The surgeon was going to try again this morning (Monday), but decided not to....actually, the resident who saw Bob this morning decided not to - apparently, the feeling is that the antibiotic is doing it's work and the bad stuff is all going away on it's own. However, they want to keep him in hospital at least until late tomorrow - Bob's doctors are going to have a confab this afternoon to decide on the course of treatment.
Oh, and they've decided that his almost-hypoglycemia is now full-blown diabetes. And for a total sugarholic like Bob, this is not good news! So, they're going to educate him (and me) on a new dietary regimen...which means I need to call our TA to alert DCL (have to do that anyway about Mom's low fat regimen)....
So, I may be bringing him home tomorrow....?????

Oh gosh Carol I am sorry...I hope he gets better soon. I don't understand why a "normal" doctor couldn't drain the infection! MY GOSH...to leave the poor man for over a day with a puss filled hand is too much! Where did you take him? Sparrow? Remind me NOT to go there!

Re: Happy Anniversary....NOT!!!!!
Carol,
Well first of all let me say Happy Anniversary. Now I realize that it isn't a happy day for the two of you but 12 years together is still worth being happy about. Hopefully you will be able to celebrate both your anniversary and your DH's good health when the doctors finally get their act together and your DH is home where he belongs.
