As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sam and I were just talking about how we'd only most likely be happy at VWL. So we are talking about buying some points there through resale.
But how does it work in regards to booking ahead (the 11 month and the 7 month window) when say you own 150 at SSR and 100 at VWL.
If you want to book at VWL - do you automatically get to book at the 11 month window because you own there, or can you only book the 1st 100pts at VWL at 11months and have to wait til the 7 month to book the rest?
Does that make sense? I see many of you own at different resorts and I know you all go A LOT so I think you may be able to answer this one for us.
The two contracts will ALWAYS be separate entites as far as DVC is concerned. In your example, you can only use 100 pts per year to book VWL at 11 months. But you could also bank and borrow on that specific contract to give you more points every few years. For example, if you banked your 2006 VWL points, then in 2007 you could have as many as 300 points available for booking at 11 mos if you used the 100 banked, 100 points from '07 and borrowed the 100 pts from '08.
Just having SOME ownership at a given resort is not adequate to get the 11 month window for ALL Of your points.
We have 250 points at VWL and 100 at SSR (and 25 at BWV, well....just because! ) We can book at the 11 month window at VWL using any or all of those 250 points. And we can book at the 11 month window for SSR using any and all of that 100 points. (The points at BWV would get us a closet somewhere for a night or two, lol)
Next December we are going to WDW with friends and are looking to book a 2BR. We decided to book at VWL so that we can take advantage of the 11 month window. We may waitlist for BWV or try at the 7 month window but that way we have something. And VWL is beautiful at Christmas, so we may just keep it...

OK, so I guess my question is this (BTW we are planning on Mousefest 2007 at VWL as well - will you be there at that time??) - what if your December 2007 trip is 255 - you only have 250 VWL points. What happens to those other 5 points since you'd have to use them from the say SSR? Does that mean you book the "9 days at VWL" and then book the 10th day at the 7 month mark? I mean, that would be somewhat confusing for the reservation. Right?
Well, to book our Dec 07 trip, I already need to borrow from 2007/08 since I have borrowed all but 79 of my 2006/07 points. (Hmm...do I need more points? I see a pattern here... ) Last January (2005) I booked VWL for Dec 05 at my 11 month window and had to borrow against 2006. (We had used all of our 2005 points for our cruise.) It was no problem at all. I think that if you had your current use year points available, you would be able to use all of them plus your next "borrow" years points at the 11 month window for whaichever resort. (did that make sense?)
So if you needed another 5 or 10 or 100, you would be able to borrow them from your next use year.
Yes, we will be there but I am not sure of the exact dates we are going. We are travelling with friends who haven't been to Disney since 2001 (actually they were with us the trip we became DVC members) and they have never stayed on property before, so we are really looking forward to being able to show them some of the Disney magic. I will be dragging them to some meets and events, they are both great people. We'll have to plan a get together, too!
Let me ask this, do you have to have all of your current use year points available to borrow from the next year. We're borrowing some of our 2008 use year for our trip in 2007 (we're bringing my parents-- this will be rare, but we want them to be able to stay with us on this trip). In 2008, I'll have half of my points available-- If I want to take a trip in 2008 (which I doubt we will), but if we did since I won't have all 2008 points available, would I still be able to borrow from 2009 points. In 2009 we plan on adding more points, so I'm not really worried about borrowing-- just wondering if I can keep borrowing each year until I go back to work and can afford more (does that make sense)??

Thanks!!! I was wondering if they would have a problem if each year I was booking a trip with next year's points. I thought my guide said we could do that, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!
