As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
Although I have never stayed at a moderate - I will be in September. I chose Port Orleans French Quarter - because so many of the great passporter friends love it there! I am excited about trying it out!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
I've stayed at POR, CBR and will be staying at POFQ this fall. I think POR in the AB rooms would work for your family. It's a great resort and in the AB rooms you get a trundle bed that would be good for the 3yo to sleep on. They have a wonderful main pool and several quiet pools that are close to all of the rooms. It's a big resort, but I love the theming. I have enjoyed all of the moderates I have stayed at. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
A great Moderate resort was at least for us, The Carribean Beach. We stayed there 2 times and my 12 year old and 8 year old LOVED it. This was last year. The pool is pretty cool and the feeling like you are in the Carribean, is awesome. You can also rent bikes or boats. But if you decide to try it, ask to stay in the Jamaica section. That section was close to the main pool, food court, and to the nearest bus stop. I would definitely stay there again!
Good Luck,
Kate

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
I'd second the PO resorts. The AB rooms with a trundle bed might making it easy for your kids to share.
But our absolute fav resort (including the deluxes) is POFQ. So small and quaint and quiet -- it's perfection. It's close to all the parks and has the benefit of the boat ride to Downtown Disney.
We LOVE it!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
I've stayed at all of the moderates. CB and POFQ are my two favorites. I was very impressed with CB on our last trip, the grounds looked excellent, bus service was speedy, and the rooms were very nice. I love POFQ because no room is a bad room, and it feels less crowded and more relaxing there than other places.

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
I highly recommend POFQ. Other than not having private balconies, this resort feels more like a deluxe to me than a moderate. Its small compact size means that, no matter where your room is located, you're never much of a walk from the main facilities and bus stop, etc. The boat to DD is a definite perk. Best of all, the theming and grounds here are stunningly beautiful. I would stay at POFQ again in a heartbeat.

I think you'll find that we all have our favorites. We love Port Orleans Riverside. It's quiet, beautiful and comfortable. We've been there twice, and love Alligator Bayou the best.
Have fun choosing the one that's best for you!!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
I also love CB! But we usually stay in the cabins at Ft.Wilderness. And that's our all time favorite resort! I hope you can visit or stay there sometime in the future!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
We have stayed at CBR and POR. The adults prefer POR, the kids CBR. In fact, we will be staying there again in the fall. It is a larger resort, but the bright colors and atmosphere have won our kids over.
Good luck deciding. I really don't think you can go wrong. Each of them is lovely and has something different to offer.
Have a great trip!

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
I've stayed at all portions of POR and loved them all. The other moderates are just too big and spread out for me, I walk enough in the parks, don't want to trudge a 1/2 mile to the foodcourt several times a day. POR bus stops are all convenient and I just love the rooms. My last stay in May was at Alligator Bayou and it has become yet another favorite! I prefer the foodcourt at Riverside and AB to the one at FQ. Good luck choosing.

Our family fell in love with CBR, and will be going back in Oct. The atmosphere is so relaxing, and my 13 yr old just loved the pool.

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
Last year I stayed at POR and loved it. We stayed at Magnolia Terrace, it is a short walk across the river but it is a peaceful walk - if peaceful is what you like, especially after a day bustling around the parks. The food court is awesome. I liked it so much after much thought of going to a different moderate resort this year I chose to go back to POR.

Re: Any Ideas on a Moderate Resort???
Have you viewed the Disney planning video? That really helps you get a feel for the various resorts, and is a great way to get feedback from the rest of your travel companions.
Put me down as another vote for POR or POFQ! I've stayed at both, and love them! On this past trip (just got back!) I decided to take a day to tour the other mod/deluxe resorts and could not find one I liked better than Port Orleans. And don't forget that Riverside and French Quarter are sister resorts so you can use the pools and food courts at either resort.
I think all the Disney resorts are amazing, but some seem "too created" for my tastes, and to me that makes it harder to relax and enjoy the vacation. Plus my husband refuses to stay at the values, or any mod/deluxe that has conference facilities.
Oh, and at FQ, you can get away without having to bring your own stroller for a preschooler. It's compact enough that little legs don't get too tired walking around; or adults don't get too tired when having to carry that sleeping little one from the bus stop to the room.
Figure out what's most important to your crew, and pick a resort--they're all great. After all it is DisneyWorld!!
