Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

You Know You\'re a Disney Fan When...
DISCLAIMER: I did not write this -- copied in its entirety from another message board. That said....
You know you're a Disney Theme Park fan when...
1. You mistakenly write "Mousellaneous" on your office's filing cabinet.
2. You start whistling "How Do You Do" after a brisk summer rainstorm.
3. At a local Italian restaurant, you decline a request for a romantic photo of you and your partner, opting instead for a free Millennium Dessert. They look at you quizically.
4. As the doors to your subway/commuter train close, you have a tendency of saying "Por Favor Mantenganse Alejado De Las Puertas", much to the bewilderment of your fellow commuters.
5. When going to your office Holiday Party, you ask where the wristbands are located.
6. Each trip to the airport, whether to pick up/drop off friends or family, feels as if you're on your way to Disney.
7. You're crestfallen to discover that your local convenience store doesn't carry Watermellon Soda. You'd even settle for Beverly, if just to bring back the utter joy of watching someone else drink it.
8. You compare each and every other trip to your Disney experience. I know you do this. You know you do this. Don't try to deny it!
9. A friend offers you a plate of French Toast, and you say, "what, no bananas or powdered sugar?"
10. Seeing "POTC: Dead Man's Chest" this summer feels, if only for a minute or two, like a worthy temporary replacement for the Disney Theme Park experience. This fades quickly.
11. Everytime you drive past your local City Hall, you get a fleeting thrill of walking in and asking Guest Services for a Birthday button. Only, there are no Guest Services, or buttons. You walk out instead, with a parking ticket, and the sight of your car being towed far far away.
12. When in New York City, Serendipity3 is beloved by you as much for its Frozen Hot Chocolate, as for its evocation of Main Street, U.S.A. No, this isn't solely due to its turn of the century American/Victorian design. It's because of the claustrophobia. At every hour. Of every day. Of every year. Of every season. Under Heaven.
13. Your local 4th of July Fireworks Displays lack that one essential ingredient: the disembodied voices of Julie Andrews and Jiminy Cricket.
14. You keep hearing about that darn "High School Musical" and could care less, save for the fact that it's Disney, and you may have to weather future ramifications of said program on a WDW trip.
15. Though you may otherwise enjoy the History Channel, you always hope to catch that ubiquitous Modern Marvels special about WDW.
16. Your local McDonalds lacks that one essential: a fixins bar.
17. You visit the real Mexico, and are upset to learn that the Aztec Pyramids do not contain marketplaces, margaritas or boat rides.
18. You constantly use Rand McNally online programs to chart a drive to Disney, despite the fact that you fly Jetblue.
19. Your friends take you to Six Flags for the day, and you ask if the Safari departs from Harambe.
20. For those teenagers out there, your school field trip to a local Science Center loses its charm once your search for Phylicia Rashad comes up empty.
21. Your hubby suggests a trip to Hawaii, and you decline, saying you'd prefer a stay at the Polynesian.
22. You refer to your office's break room as "backstage".
23. Any Metropolitan Transit Authority automatically becomes the Tomorrowland Transit Authority.
24. When watching "The African Queen", you keep waiting for a glimpse of Inspiration Falls.
25. You get to the gates of Castle Neuschwanstein in Bavaria at 6:30 am to ensure a place in the cancellation line for the Cinderella Fairytale Breakfast. Only, no one shows up for 5 hours, and there is no restaurant. Or Cinderella.
26. When your fiance suggests a wedding in Paris, you assume they mean Disneyland Paris.
27. You refer to your fellow associates at the office as "cast members".
28. The Golden Girls' living room reminds you of the Polynesian.
29. On a business flight to Boston, you hear on the PA that one of the connections to Norway has been delayed. You pray those passengers won't miss their ADR for Akershus.
30. An ad for General Electric makes you misty-eyed, and you don't know why.
31. During the "Like a Virgin" set of Madonna's Confessions Tour, you have an urge to ride Cinderella's Golden Carousel.
32. You think life would be much easier if we replaced turnpikes with PeopleMovers.
33. You're the only person amongst your friends who doesn't bat an eye at the price of an $11.74 hot dog/soft drink combo at the local ballpark.
34. You're upset to learn that the $101.50 admission for "Tarzan" on Broadway doesn't include a theme park and additional attractions. And believe me, so are the critics.
35. The movie "Cabaret" reminds you of the innocent whimsy of Fantasyland.
36. Pretzel Time at the Mall just doesn't have the thrill of Pretzel Bread at Epcot. (I won't even get into the Le Cellier vs. Biergarten debate, though anyone who's followed my dining trip reports know where my bread is... uh, buttered).
37. Every ad for "Cars" is another subliminal reminder of what fate has in store for the Tomorrowland Speedway.
38. Let's be honest, the only reason you ever flip over to Travel Channel is to catch a Disney program.
39. You have to explain to friends that Mickey Mouse is more than a cartoon, he's a way of life.
40. You constantly use Google Earth or any of those online programs to look at Disney World.
41. You ask your local Saab dealer if they make Monorail trains.
42. Your friends stay at the Bellagio and you say, "Oh please, Epcot's been up on that for nearly 25 years now."

Re: You Know You\'re a Disney Fan When...
Love it! That was great! My DH has his own additional version to add to this. You Know You're a Disney Fan When....you work at a hotel and you call the front desk people "cast members" and tell them to tell guests to have a "magical day" (and they do).
