As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

PRETRIP and DAY 1 Grumpy Northwest Airlines!
<font color="purple">
I love the Flower and Garden Festival and I kicked myself in 2004 when I missed it. Amy (iamgrumpy) mentioned she was going to go to WDW in late May. I had not met Amy yet and really wanted to so I scheduled my vacation that week. To my surprise I found out Tina was also visiting the week I was there! I purchased my airline tickets from Northwest for $160 out of Flint, MI and I was good to go! About a month before the trip I used a combo of discounts and coupons and booked at mid-sized SUV from National for $100 for 5 days. Since I was staying with my sister in Kissimmee it is essential that I get a rental car.
The only set plans I had were the meets. I made no plans for what day to do what park. My sister, Sandy, is NOT a planner so she hates it when I plan everything for each day and we can’t do “what feels right” for the time. Sandy had mentioned something about going to Sea World on Memorial day. I had not been to Sea World since 2001 so I agreed we could plan that. We figured the Disney parks would probably be pretty crowded and since Sea World is mostly shows it shouldn’t be too bad.
I dropped my dog, Belle, off first thing in the morning on Sunday. It always breaks my heart to leave her. I had found a new boarding facility for her. The husband and wife are both vets and they board dogs out of their home. I visited the place about a week before my vacation to see if it would be okay. Their house is very neat and clean and the couple was very friendly. All the dogs looked happy and well taken care of. The best part was that board fee was $7 less a night then the place I brought her to before and they were a lot more flexible with drop off/pick up hours. My cat Max would be staying at home and My friend Rachelle came over everyday to feed him, brush him and clean his litter box. My pets are my children so I hate leaving them. I wish I could take them with me but that just isn’t possible.
After I dropped Belle off I had to visit a couple of my pet sitting clients and drop a file off at the pet sitting office. Everything was done by 10:30. I went to a coffee café and had a cup of coffee and a scone. When I was done I went to Meijer and picked up a pair of headphones and some sunscreen. The evening before I had loaded my suitcases in the trunk I wanted to make sure I didn’t forget anything.
After a quick stop at the post office I made my way to Flint. My flight was not due to leave until 1:30 but I wanted to make sure I gave myself plenty of time to get there. It is normally a 45 minute drive but I was not sure what kind of construction was going on. There was construction on I-69 so the road was town to one lane for about 10 miles. I got stuck behind a tractor trailer truck which was not good. Thankfully I made it though intact. I was at the airport at about 11:30. I parked in the Economy lot (which I love because it is only $5 a day!) and the shuttle picked me up at my car. The driver helped me load my suitcases. He would not even let me touch them, “Saying, nope that is MY job. No pretty lady should have to carry her own bags.”
Check-in at the airport was very quick. Since the airport is so small I don’t even bother printing out my boarding passes beforehand. I have to wait in line to check my bags anyway so why risk losing the passes from my home to the airport or forgetting them at home! It was almost noon when I finished. I got a cup of coffee and sat right outside security in the big fluffy chairs and relaxed for about a half hour. I waited in line for security and without looking down the guy said, “Ma’am you should probably take off your shoes.” I was wearing sandals. He then looked down and said, “Oh nevermind.” I passed through security without a problem and didn’t need my bag searched
I tried to make small talk with the passengers waiting for the flight. The couple sitting next to me pretended they didn’t hear me. The guy across from me was not real talkative and acted like I was bothering him. Well excuse me for being friendly! Finally the flight boarded. It was a quick on, from Flint to Detroit and it took less then a half hour.
My flight to Orlando didn’t leave until just after 3 so I made myself comfortable in the gate. I called my sister to let her know I was on my way. She was getting excited. I told her I would call her when I landed and she could come pick me up then. I was not going to pick up my rental car until the next morning. It made no sense for me to pick it up that night because I really didn’t need it until the next day.
We finally boarded about 3:00 and were in the air right on time. Keep this in mind if you ever fly Northwest. You do not get a free snack anymore on their flights. I thought we got a free bag of something (which would have held me over until dinner) but all we got was a can of soda (on a 2 ½ hour flight!!!). We got to Orlando right on time, oh but we didn’t land!! We were stuck in a holding pattern over the airport because there was a thunderstorm. Okay fine…no biggie it is Florida in the late spring. The captain was nice enough to actually tell us what was going on. About a half hour later he came on the radio and said that they were probably going to extend the holding pattern a bit longer and if that was true we were going to run out of fuel. Okay. He explained that we would need to fly to Tampa refuel and then fly BACK to Orlando! Well guess what happened? We were on our way to Tampa! As soon as he said this everyone that was waiting to use the rest room got up and there was a line! Thankfully after the first announcement I got up and used the restroom! I didn’t realize I was the only one the didn’t like using airplane bathrooms! So here we were on our way to Tampa, as we flew over Tampa Bay I looked at the guy sitting next to me and said, “Wow this is kind of cool I didn’t expect to see the Gulf on this vacation.” I think he just laughed to humor me! We landed in Tampa without any problems and it seemed like it took FOREVER to find the gate. We pulled into the gate and we figured there would be a fuel truck waiting. Nope! About 40 minutes later the captain came on and said, “the fuel truck just pulled up we should be in the air in about a half hour.” The groans were auditable. The poor guy next to me was having a cigarette fit (although I was the only one he shared this with). The flight attendants were passing out cups of water but no food (sorry they would have sold you a bag is trail mix for a dollar ). One lady asked for juice for her little girl and the flight attendant snapped at her and said, “We are ONLY serving water!” In the meantime I called my sister and explained to her we were in Tampa. We both laughed about it and I told her I would call her when we landed in Orlando. At 8:45 we were FINALLY on the ground in Orlando. I called me sister and went over to baggage claim to get my suitcases (which thankfully were two of the first out of the shoot!).
I loaded everything in the car and Sandy and I headed over to TGI Friday’s to meet a couple of her friends. They had been waiting for me to show up to order food and eat! I was SUPPOSE to land at 5:30!! At that point anything would have tasted good (I had not eaten since that breakfast that morning!) I had a cheese burger and fries and a diet soda. Sandy’s friends Paul and Heather were really nice and I enjoyed talking to them. I just wish we could have done something after dinner like we had planned. Heather kept telling Sandy and I we looked like twins (something we both found repulsive!) We all said “goodbye” and Paul promised to meet up with Sandy and I later on in the week.
It had been a long day. When we got back to Sandy’s condo I unloaded my suitcases from her car and put them in the guest suite (yes it is a suite with its own bathroom and terrace)! We agreed to get an early start the next morning and head to Sea World.</font>

What a nightmare flight you had - and as I read it, it became like a comedy of errors. I kept thinking "surely nothing else can go wrong" and then something else did. Thank goodness you eventually made it.

Re: Birthday, F&G Festival and Passporters!!! May 28 to June 3 DAY ONE
It's been some time since I have flown on NWA and now, I am not so sure there will be another time. Yikes- what a start!
Looking forward to hearing about Ses World. It was the ONLY place my parents would go to in Orlando growing up and it's been several years since I've been.
More please?

Re: Birthday, F&G Festival and Passporters!!! May 28 to June 3 DAY ONE
Monday, Memorial Day, May 29, 2006: Day Two, Part 1:
<font color="purple">Sandy and I were both up around 7:30 am. I jumped in the shower and was downstairs by 8:00. Sandy finished up a couple of things around the house and we were out the door by 8:30. She took me to National and dropped me off in the garage and waited for me. I went right to the Emerald Club counter and they looked at my reservation print out and said, “Just go pick up a Mid sized SUV from this aisle and drive it to the front.” I LOVE Emerald Club! There were 5 SUVs to choose from three butt ugly ones and a Jeep Liberty. I picked the Liberty It only had 2300 miles on it although when I turned it on I found out it was out of windshield wiper fluid. No biggie we are going to stop at the store I will pick up a bottle. I checked the car out and Sandy saw me and pulled forward. We went back to her condo and dropped her car off to Cracker Barrel for breakfast.
I didn’t want to eat to much so I ordered eggs and biscuits (no gravy BLAH!) and Sandy said that I could eat half of her pancakes. The coffee was great, although hot so we had the waitress bring us a cup of ice. You can’t beat breakfast at Cracker Barrel. We were in and out pretty quick and I picked up the bill. After a quick stop at Wal*Mart to pick up water and a few other things we were on our way to Sea World.
We made it to Sea World by 11 parking was $10, which Sandy agreed to pay. There was a HUGE line to buy tickets. We were not 100% sure if we were going to Sea World so I had not gotten ticket before hand so I had to wait in the huge line! Sandy is a teacher in Florida and is able to get a free annual pass to Sea World. She took my camera bag and waited inside the park so I didn’t have to go through the “bag check” line. It took about 20 minutes to get through the line. After slipping down $65 I had a ticket in hand. When I found Sandy she had already gone through the map and picked out the show times that would work best.
The first show we went to was Seymour and Clyde the Sea Lion and Otter show. Sandy agreed to hold a place at the entrance while I went over to see the Sea lions on display. They are very cute and better beggars then Belle! The birds are very talented as well…swooping down to catch fish in midair before they could even reach poor sea mammals.
I went back and found Sandy. They started seating us a few minutes later. The show was cute and really well done. They have some talented trainers teaching those animals! My favorite was the walrus. The mime before the show started was hilarious. He followed people who were finding their seats around and mimicked how they walked. A pregnant lady was carrying a large bag and a guy (who I assume was her husband) had his hands empty so the mime actually took the bag off her shoulder and handed it to the guy. The crowd erupted in applause! The guy was very embarrassed. The show starts out with a pirate ship (with a sea lion on it’s crew) crashing into what they think is a deserted island only to find out it is occupied by another sea lion and man. The otter is called a big rat! It is very funny and has a lot of tongue in cheek humor. Some of the jokes were alittle outdated (they made a joke about FL counting votes ) I don’t want to spoil the show for anyone who is heading to Sea World but you HAVE to see it!
</font>
NEXT: Sea World You are NOT Walt Disney World!!
