As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Candlelight Processional
Thought I would tap in to the collective to gather some info on the CP this holiday season. For those who have gone before, I was wondering if you could pass along any tips. I have made ADR's in Epcot but understand the "CP dining package" will be unavaiable until sometime in August. In any case, do you feel it is necessary to have the dining package in order to get decent seats? Has anyone done the "standby" line? I have heard there is a "VIP" section in the front, anyone know if this is true and how those lucky ones get the seats? Any other tidbits of info would be most appreciated!

I did the CP dining package last year and it was well worth it! We had seats under the covering (which was fantastic since it started raining) while the stand by guests sat un-covered. We had no waiting while the stand by line was TREMENDOUS! I would recommend the Dining package and have a great time. It is a wonderful production!!!!

Be prepared to wait in the standby line for a while (hour plus) if you want to get a seat. We did the CP Dining Package and got in line 10 minutes before the show started and got a seat (not our intent but dinner at Mexico took a lot longer than expected because they were training a new waiter)... We had to rush straight from dinner over to the CP.

Last year I asked some people in the standby line how long they had been there and they told me 1.5 hours. The line was HUGE. We stood outside the theater like losers and peaked in and of course, listened. If I'm ever there during Christmas again, I'll do the dinner CP package. We were so pressed for time last December that I didn't want to spend 2 hours at dinner, and I also didn't want to wait over an hour in line, so we just didn't see it. I'm thinking of doing the CP dinner package this christmas but having dinner AFTER the show. Do you think that an 8pm ADR at Teppanyaki sounds reasonable for after the 6:45pm showing of CP? I figure the show is about 40mins so exit the theatre about 7:30pm and then the walk round to Japan shouldn't take any longer than 15 - 20 mins so we should arrive about 10 mins prior to our ADR. Just for the record we have done CP twice in the past several years. We did not do dining either time. This past year we stood in line about 45 min. and got in to the theater for seats. We were fairly far back but we were in the center sections and the seats were not bad. This was just a few days before Christmas with a top name narrator, so I wasn't disappointed.

We did the CP dining package in the past and will definitely do it again this year. Two years ago we walked in right before the show started and got seats right in front. For the record, the seats in front aren't all that great because you miss the "big picture" being so close to the stage. This year I would like to sit somewhere in the middle so we can see the whole stage. With an impatient 5 year old, I don't want to spend 1.5 hours in line - would rather enjoy a nice dinner and know we have seats.

We didn't do the package this year, but were able to get in on the standby line. We ended up in the last row. Not the best seats, but we could still see and hear the music, which was more important to me.
I too am interested in how to get the VIP seats, as we saw them when we did the package in 2004. The people had different badges on than everyone else, I think they were gold flecked or something.

I highly recommend the CP dining package. To try to see the CP without it is a lot like playing Russian Roulette. Depending on the number of people who have purchased the package, there can be very few leftover seats for the general public. More than once I have seen people (who have waited in line for over an hour) get turned away because there are simply no seats available.
As for the VIP seating, I really wouldn't sweat it. We had front row seats last year and I wouldn't do it again. The orchestra is right there in front of you, large as life, and they block your view of the proceedings to some extent. Plus, when it snows, it doesn't snow on the first few rows so you miss out on that particular magic too.

We thought about going 2 years ago without the CP dining package...and saw people lining up as early as 3:30 and we were like [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/082502no_prv.gif[/img] way are we standing in line that long. SO this past year we went with the package and walked right in about 15 minutes before the show started. Granted, there is a line for the CP package people, too. And it can get pretty long. We were bad and started walking with the crowd of people in line when this large group of people just stopped, turned around, and starting talking to someone, holding up the entire line...so we sorta cut [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] BUT, it was okay, nobody noticed...we blended in.

We went to the 6:45 show and had an 8:40 ADR at Les Chefs last year. We were able to check in about 15 minutes early. I would make it in the 8:30 range. 8:00 might be a little too soon. (but that's just me, I don't like to rush and push things)
