As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Backpack or belly bag?
It's me again! We want to take water bottles, snacks, disp cameras, ponchos, passporter (of course),sunscreen, to the parks. For a family of four:dad mom teen(14) DD and DD 10, I assume we would take a backpack. What about dealing with this bag on rides and stuff. I know I need to take at least one backpack and we could take turns carrying it. I don't think I could fit it all in a bellybag. (don't ask about my belly, if ya know what Im sayin') and I am all about saving money on the snack and water thing. Any thoughts or experiences with this you guys??? Thanks for your patience with me and the HELP!!!

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
I brought my backpack to the parks- most of the time when you go on the rides you put it under your legs- and I'd advise bringing along- diaper rash ointment/powder and a dry change of underwear also- chafed thighs aren't much fun in the parks. I know! also, everyone should have thier own backpack so you can carry your souvienirs, items to do while in the long lines if there are any at this time of year your children is certainly old enough to carry around backpacks- more comfortable than fannypacks I'd say any more questions just post again I had to carry my family's cameras cuz I were the only one smart enough to bring a comfy backpack big enough to hold all the stuff. Re: Backpack or belly bag?
I took a back pack(easy for me to say, I rode around in a scooter!!), and everyone else had their fannypacks. My DD took charge of the backpack on the rides, stuffing it down on the floor and putting her feet through the straps. The idea about the powder is a very good one-try Gold Bond,it saved our trip!! Enjoy!!

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
Minnievoice,
I had the same idea. I used a fanny pack, but when I get on rides it is very uncomfortable since I am a plus size gal. I found it easy to just hook it under my leg while sitting down.

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
OK now you're gonna hear from the belly bag people...
My DH and I each bought a fanny pack/belly bag from the Publix supermarket that had holders for bottled water, etc. on the outside. (You could actually probably use one for water and one for sunscreen.) The inside was big enough to fit everything we needed, including money, credit cards, keys, sunglasses, spare film and flash, checkbook, pens, aspirin, sunscreen, lip balm, maps, contact lens stuff, etc. etc. If you are staying on property, you can have souvenirs sent back to your resort (although I don't think thet send them to your room anymore), but that way you don't have to carry them around. If each of your group got their own bag, you could each carry what you need. It would also eliminate the ever popular childhood whine, "Can I have a _____?" (Fill in the blank) because each would have their own with their own stuff and money in it. When we went in 1997 with my stepson, the first day I did the backpack thing, and it got very bulky towards the end of the day. No one else wanted to carry it (they did, reluctantly, but I'm not sure if the relief was worth the whining.) and half the stuff I didn't use. So day two we went to fanny packs for all of us and we were all happy.
The only time I did use it was to go to the water park, carrying towels, swim suits, plastic bag for wet stuff, etc.
When are you going to be there?

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
Ursunique,
Aren't we all Plus size!!! The leg trick is the best. I know alot of people like to have their souvineers sent to their resort or the front of the park but.. sometimes you just hafta have the stuff you bought that night. (just to look at and play with!!!) I cannot live w/o my backpack @ WDW. Actually I use a camelback but pretty much the same!!

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
I use both. My fanny pack is my everyday purse anyway, so that goes everywhere. At WDW my fanny pack holds the wallet, tickets, camera, moleskin and scissors, chapstick and room keys. The backpack holds rain ponchos, video camera (in another bag for cushioning), park maps, autograph books and pens, snacks, water bottle, sunsreen, Passporter, memo books for notetaking and for the kids to draw in while waiting.
This trip it will only be my daughter and me, so I am going to try just using my new Deluxe Waist pack (from the Passporter site) and carry my video camera in it's cushion bag. No need for the backpack this time.
For your group, you could just have each person handle their own stuff in a waist bag, since none are little kids. But if you use the backpack, make sure everyone takes turns carrying it....it will get heavy as the day goes on. -HiddenMickey

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
To answer rescuesk's question, we will be there from Nov 22-27. Thanks so much eveyone for your input. The powder, ointment thing was a real good idea! I am not too sure I can get my 14 yr old to wear a waist bag but pretty sure it is still cool to carry a backpack!! Every parent of a teenager that is reading this is nodding their head..yeah,she's right.Right?
You guys are great,lil poohbear

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
I ALWAYS take a back pack w/ me. I just loop my leg through it on the rides. Back pack would definately be my choice. Plus you'll have souvineer carrying space!!

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
Hi lil poohbear....
yeah, your right! I just got back from traveling with two girls, 15 & 16. They would not be caught dead with waistbags (I am a waistbag ONLY carrier) One carried her purse which had a strap that made it hang down to about mid-thigh (????) and the other carried an Old Navy cloth backpack, which she traded off for a "Hello, Kitty" cloth backpack after visiting the department store in Japan in Epcot. I put anything I couldn't fit in my waistbag in their bags.

Re: Backpack or belly bag?
Depends lol! Main Question: What do u want to bring to the park with you?
Also, if u are planning on purchesing alot of souvineers, go with the backpack, much easier than carrying bags around all day!
If you are just brining camera, tickets, money...then i would say fanny pack!
